Chapter 75

Jax had an easy time catching five new pokemons that he didn't already have. Even if he was in a rush to complete the quests, Jax didn't skimp out on his training at all. Exploring all three areas over the past two weeks, Jax had easily surpassed the needed five and even caught close to fifteen new pokemons for Operation 631. The issue was actually with the first quest, Craft your first ball.

Although it was listed as the first quest meaning it should be the easiest to complete, Jax was having a harder time crafting the ball than he had originally assumed. He had long since collected all the different types of Apricorn trees and even had a whole forest of them inside his sub-space at this point. The issue he was running into wasn't lack of materials but transcribing the runes necessary for the ball to function onto the inside of the basic Pokeball he was trying to craft!

After a week of struggling at this same task repeatedly, Jax thought he could cheat the system and have the local Ball Smith transcribe the runes for him; after all, he did do 90 percent of the work and craft the physical body of the ball. Sadly, he only gave Metsys more reason to tease him since his plan didn't work out.

With no other choice, he hit the books and studied the ancient runes necessary for ball smithing. Like what he used to do back in Kindergarten on Earth, Jax traced their outlines, wrote copies beneath perfect examples, and then tried to free write them. After becoming a runes expert, Jax finally completed his first ball, a basic Pokeball!

Not wanting to let the feeling go, he crafted and transcribed a whole bunch of Pokeballs before moving onto Greatballs, and finally, Ultraballs! Jax figured that having Ultraballs was enough and didn't want to move onto the more specific type balls yet since that was a whole different headache.

With the Incubator function finally unlocked after the Fearows gave birth to eggs, Jax was allowed to put one egg in there that quick sped up the egg's incubation period. After placing the mystery egg the Emperor had 'gifted' him, it was finally hatching!

Crack…Crack…

As the egg cracked and the shell pieces fell, the pokemon inside finally poked its tiny head out! Actually, it wasn't a tiny head at all! A giant black head with red hints and a tiny blue-red flame popped out!

"Cadet!"

With a cry, the pokemon finally pushed its way all the way out of the egg standing roughly around half of Jax's height at 2 feet. Jax was shocked at his new pokemon! It was one he had never seen before!

"M-Metsys! Hurry! Tell me what I'm looking at!"

"Mhm. Looks like a Charcadet, the fire child pokemon. It's a recently discovered pokemon from the Paldea region. Even I don't have much information about it. Since the trainer left two pieces of armor along with the egg, try seeing how it would react to them."

Following her advice, Jax brought out the two pieces of armor that he was also gifted by Emperor Augustus. Looking at the armors, Charcadet walked around them curiously before picking up the dark purple one and putting it on.

Nothing happened! Jax thought something cool was going to happen when he put on the armor but it seems he was expecting too much. 'Oh well. Since it seems like he likes it, I'll just have him wear it. It's not like I need the armor.'

Just as Jax was still thinking that his expectations were too high, a blinding light shone from his new pokemon!

"W-what's happening? Metsys! Is he supposed to be flashing like that!?"

"From what I can tell…I think he is evolving? Like I said, I don't have much information about his species."

"Evolving!? He just hatched not even five minutes ago! He's still only level 1!"

"Well, what can we do? Let's just observe to see what happens. Sheesh, I'm not a Pokedex!"

After the light show died down, the previous child-like pokemon was replaced by a pokemon that was even taller than Jax, now standing at 1.6 meters tall!

"H-he looks so cool! Paldea is awesome! Ugh! I wish I was able to play the games before I died!"

Looking at his new pokemon, Jax couldn't believe that the recently hatched Charcadet had actually evolved! From his memories, he couldn't remember any other pokemon that was able to evolve at level 1!

"I need to come up with a new name!"

'Mhm. That helmet! Those blade-like hands! That armor! A knight!' Thinking of the strongest knight he used to be obsessed with, Jax immediately came up with a name on the spot.

"Hey, buddy! Welcome to the family! From now on, I'll call you Lancelot! It's the name of a great knight from old that was nearly unbeatable. Using his sword, he cut apart his enemies and protected his kingdom!"

"Ceru…Ledge!"

In acknowledgement of his new name, Ceruledge knelt down on one knee in a ceremonial knighting position. 'Hehe! Looks like he likes his new name. Now, let's see how strong he is.'
