Chapter 60

After struggling past seven floors, Jax could finally feel his mental strength draining. Each puzzle starting from Floor 1 to Floor 5 tested how well he could control his psychic abilities. From shooting a ball into a hoop using only his powers to stopping an object flying at his at break neck speeds, Jax was left to think about how to use his abilities in more innovative ways. Before, Jax was still to stuck on Earth's understanding of psychic powers. Bending spoons! Telekinesis! These were all just the basics!

From Floor 6 and now Floor 7, Jax had to fine tune the use of how much power he let out. The way he was using his powers before, Jax was like a raging river. The more power he squeezed out from inside, the better he thought he was getting. Only now did Jax realize how wrong he was. Floor 6 had Jax thread a need made of psionic particles through a small needle. After countless tries, Jax was able to compress them down enough to create a thin but stable thread that safely passed through the hole on the needle. Now, on Floor 7, Jax had spent the past hour stuck here with no idea on how to proceed!

In theory, the puzzle seemed simple. All he had to do was release the right amount of Psion at the exact moment that a target appeared in the distance. Depending on the target's size, Jax would have to release more or less. For example, if the target was larger than a meter, Jax would have to discharge a great about of Psion and fire it at the target. The only problem, the target only stayed there for a second before disappearing!

Jax had to look at the target, determine if he would need a lot of Psion or a tiny amount, concentrate on gathering the psionic particles, compress them into a shape and then finally fire it at the target before it disappeared! Jax couldn't just fire a large amount of psionic power at a small target either because every time he messed up, Jax would be assaulted by a powerful burst of mental power!

That's right, he was being attacked! Jax didn't know who was watching him but every time he messed up, they hit him with a wave of mental energy that just made him even more mentally exhausted which made concentrating that much harder! Laying on the ground and taking a break, Jax was heaving up and down. Even though he didn't move that much in these past eight hours, the strain on his mind was taking a toll on his physical body. As he was recovering, a door he had never seen before opened up and out walked a little girl.

Looking at the new visitor, Jax noted that although she was bigger than himself, she was a dwarf compared to most adults. The woman had long, dark green hair with two different colored pupils, one blue and one pink. As he was observing the woman, the woman was also observing him. Walking past him, the woman started her own session of the puzzle which she completed in record time! As if to prove it, her score became the top score and was record on the screen hanging on one side of the wall! Looking at the new name that took first place, Jax read it aloud, "Sabrina, score 100…"

Staring at the little short woman, Jax got up and was about to head back down the stairs when he was stopped by the girl. "Where do you think you're going?"

Confused by the new voice in his head, Jax looked around before turning to look at the girl. Sending out his own psionic powers, Jax replied, "Ummm. I didn't make it to the tenth floor. Since you're here, doesn't that mean I failed?"

"…"

Not receiving a reply, Jax made his way back down the stairs when he was suddenly lifted into the air and carried away by the girl who was using telekinesis on him and on herself. Going through the door she came out of, the two of them disappeared in a flash of light. Opening his eyes after closing them earlier from the intense brightness, Jax saw that they were now in a Japanese-style house. Looking around at the unfamiliar sight, the woman floated them both over towards a pokemon battlefield.

Dropping him on the ground, the woman floated to the opposite side and summoned out the Alakazam from the first floor. "Summon yours. Let's fight."

"Ummm. I don't have my pokemons with me right now. If you want to fight, I can battle you in a different way."

Interested in what the boy was suggesting, the woman recalled her pokemon and nodded towards the boy asking him to show her what he meant. Reaching into his schoolbag, Jax accessed his Items function hiding the process from her so as not to be asked where he got the item he was pulling out from. Taking his hand out of the bag, the woman noticed that the boy had pulled out what seemed to be a checkered board of black and white squares. Intrigued, she floated over to the boy.

After explaining the rules of chess to the woman, the two engaged in psychological warfare. At first, being more proficient at the game, Jax won every single match. But half way through their battles, the woman figured out the game and started taking her own actions that Jax hadn't even explained yet!

The score was now 19-20 with Jax in the lead by one measly win. Not wanting to give up his advantage, Jax called for a break saying he needed to use the restroom. After coming back from his break, the woman looked at him before gesturing for him to sit down in front of her instead of behind the chess board. Looking at the handsome boy, the woman sighed before sending her thoughts telepathically.

"Since you've taught me something new today, I'll teach you something new. Since you've reached Floor 7, although you didn't pass it, that means your psychic level is already close to that level. Am I right?" Nodding his head, Jax could only agree with her as he took a look at his status screen.

"Alakazam might have said I was waiting for you on the tenth floor, but he isn't exactly right either. Although I may have beat Floor 9 and progressed to Floor 10, I am still very much stuck there. From the way you look, you're still very young but already very close to reaching level 7; therefore, for every floor you manage to beat today, I'll teach you for the same amount of days."
