Adventure 07 - Not so well co-ordinated, are we?

February

The sun shone brightly as Bill and Blight continued their journey to Vermillion City, having driven a few miles away from Cerulean. Looking for a shortcut, Bill veered the car into a nearby forest. Blight, in need of a short break, asked Bill to stop so he could relieve himself while Dartrix enjoyed the sun.

"Almost done, Bill. The stream is dying down," Blight remarked.

"Okay... But I didn't ask, so please spare me the details," Bill replied, slightly annoyed.

"Sure thing, Billy old pal," Blight teased.

Bill rubbed his temples. "Please don't call me that."

As Bill looked up, he noticed a group of Pokémon staring at them. To his surprise, they all belonged to the same species. He turned around and realized that there were even more of them.

Finishing up, Blight zipped up his pants and took a step back. "Um... Bill? I don't think we're alone."

"Really? I hadn't noticed," Bill sarcastically responded.

Panicking, Bill dashed back to the Jeep while the Pokémon started closing in. He quickly started the car and sped away, with Blight grabbing Dartrix and hopping into the car just in time. They were pursued by a horde of Victreebell and Weepinbel.

Chapter Seven

Bill and Blight had been driving for about two days, including the current day, and were exhausted from constantly maneuvering around trees that obstructed their path. However, they were finally relieved to find a clear and straight pathway with trees lining only one side of the grass field.

As Bill accelerated, a Gloom suddenly appeared ahead, causing him to slam on the brakes just in time to avoid hitting it.

"Whoa!" Bill exclaimed.

"That was a close call," Blight added.

A trainer emerged from the forest and quickly retrieved the Gloom. "I'm so sorry! Gloom tends to wander off," the trainer apologized.

Blight hopped out of the Jeep, while Bill exited through the door like a normal person.

"You need to be more careful; your Pokémon should always be by your side," Bill advised.

"If you hadn't shown up, I would have battled and caught it," Blight chimed in.

"I assume you're a trainer too?" Bill asked.

"Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I'm Blight, an elite trainer from Viridian City."

"Wow, that's cool. I'm Stone Yellow, also an elite trainer from Celadon City," Stone revealed.

"How's Celadon City? It's been a while since I last visited," Blight asked.

"It's great, actually. The gym has expanded, but Erika is planning to retire soon. Just be careful around her; she can be a bit much at times, but she's nice," Stone shared.

"Hmm, I don't plan on challenging Pokémon gyms. I'm actually participating in the Champions Challenge," Blight explained.

"Whoa, same here! How many points do you have so far?" Stone asked.

"246," Blight replied confidently.

"That's not bad, but it seems like you've just started your journey. I have around 500 points," Stone stated.

"What?!"

Bill stepped forward to talk to Stone. "You must have battled a lot of Champions on your way here."

"Nope. All my points are from regular battles."

"You must have had quite a few matches to accumulate that many points. I'm impressed," Bill admitted.

Another trainer emerged from the forest, recognizing Stone. After exchanging greetings, the trainer departed.

"I'm actually quite skilled in battles. I guess you can call me a pro trainer," Stone mentioned, his tone nonchalant and not intended to brag.

"We believe you. With 500 points solely from battles, it's safe to assume you haven't lost yet," Bill commented.

"I've only lost once, and that was before I officially started my journey. I feel invincible," Stone boasted.

"In that case, I challenge you. I'll be the one to defeat you," Blight declared, stepping up to the challenge.

Alright, let's have a battle. I'm actually excited to face you, Blight," Stone said.

Stone, Bill, and Blight walked further away from the Jeep so it wouldn't be affected by the battle.

"Bulbasaur, you're up, girl," Blight pointed to the field.

"Gloom, show them that you're the strongest Grass/Poison type Pokémon ever!"

The battle was about to begin.

"Tackle!" Blight exclaimed.

Bulbasaur charged forward for a tackle, but Gloom sidestepped and dodged the attack. "Hold on!" Bulbasaur quickly recovered and attempted another tackle, but Gloom evaded it once again. "Keep going!" Bulbasaur tried another tackle, and this time Gloom jumped over her, landing behind Bulbasaur.

"Now, it's your turn use, tackle!" Stone commanded.

Gloom shot forward and headbutted Bulbasaur, sending her crashing into a tree. "Sludge Bomb!" Gloom's mouth inflated, and in the next second, a purple sludge shot out, pushing Bulbasaur even further back.

"Bulbasaur, why didn't you dodge that attack? It would have been an easy dodge! Use Vine Whip to wrap it up!"

Bulbasaur extended its vines, but Gloom leaped up, avoiding the wrap. "Solar Beam!" Gloom started absorbing light energy while in mid-air.

"That move works just like Hyper Beam! We need to do what Dartrix did. Bulbasaur-"

Bulbasaur lowered its head and released a powerful Petal Storm, circling Gloom higher into the sky before slamming it into the ground.

"I never said... You know, it's fine, it worked! Trip its leg with Vine Whip!"

Confused, Bulbasaur looked at Blight. The Pokémon wanted to dodge, not attack.

"This is our chance to win! Just do it! Counter with a quick Vine Whip!"

Bulbasaur stretched its vines forward but suddenly stopped midway and shook its head. Before Blight could comment, Solar Beam launched towards Bulbasaur and connected perfectly, shooting the Bulb Pokémon through a row of trees.

"Bulbasaur!?!!"

Blight rushed to the area where Bulbasaur landed and saw that his Pokémon was knocked out. He pulled his hat down and returned the Bulb Pokémon.

"I expected-"

Blight walked past Stone and jumped into the Jeep. Bill quickly realized the situation and waved goodbye to Stone before entering the vehicle.

Post Chapter

The sky hung heavy with darkness, mirroring the somber mood that enveloped Blight after his devastating loss. Bill stood, patiently waiting outside the Jeep as the workers filled it with fuel.

"You should try to cheer up, Blight. We're in Silver Town, a place known for happiness and joy," Bill suggested optimistically.

Blight responded with a sigh, his solemn reply barely audible. "Sure..."

Bill shrugged, muttering to himself, "I guess even the town renowned for its joyous atmosphere can't lift his spirits."

Curiously, the entire population of Silver Town began to move in their direction. Bill assumed they wanted to greet them, but his anticipation quickly fizzled when the townspeople walked past him without acknowledging his presence. Instead, they congregated around two bickering Nurse Joys, positioned in the middle of the street.

Blight's interest piqued, causing him to look up. Bill, attempting to gain a clearer view, took a step forward but struggled due to the dense crowd. As he strained, he noticed the figure from the billboard slowly approaching the commotion.

"You must be the mayor. Hi, I'm Bill-"

"You must be new to town. I'm terribly sorry you had to arrive this week. Things aren't going well," the mayor interrupted, his voice filled with regret.

"Why?" Bill inquired, genuinely curious.

The mayor sighed, weariness evident in his voice. "My wife is one of the Nurse Joys arguing over there. She's accusing her sister of stealing something very important."

"Wow," Bill exclaimed, taken aback by the severity of the situation.

"They've been at each other's throats all week, ever since their sister departed," the mayor continued, his frustration mounting.

"I really think you-" Bill began, hoping to offer some advice or assistance.

Before he could finish his sentence, the sharp sound of glass shattering pierced the air, diverting the mayor's attention. He rushed towards the scene. In an instant, chaos erupted as the townspeople scattered in panic, spurred on by one of the Nurse Joys brandishing a knife.

"I could do the main character thing, and do something about this, but... I'm not a main character so, fuck no."

Realizing the urgency, Bill swiftly hopped into the Jeep and sped away, leaving the tumultuous scene of Silver Town behind.
