Cain, along with his Pokémon, moved cautiously, minimizing the noise of his steps as he slowly approached the source of the sounds.
As he got closer, the battle sounds became clearer.
There were rumblings, rocks flying, and fragments of stones crashing against the mountain walls.
At that moment, a clear voice resonated again, "Roselia, use Stun Spore!"
The battle scene slowly came into view for Cain. In front of him were two Onix, the very ones he had been searching for in vain for hours, now appearing all of a sudden.
Both Onix were approximately nine meters long. As they intertwined, the terrain, which was difficult for Cain to navigate, seemed like a flat surface to them.
After the Onix passed, the ground was left covered in rock fragments, but at least the path was much easier to traverse.
However, what caught Cain's attention wasn't the two Onix but a girl with a red bandana tied around her head, who was accompanied by a Grass/Poison-type Pokémon, Roselia.
It was a small Pokémon with three thorns on its head and a light green body. Green leaves covered its body like a dress, and the leaves on its chest had yellow parts. Its left hand had a blue rose and its right hand had a red rose.
After hearing the girl's voice, Roselia uttered a clear cry and raised its two roses above its head. A fine, pale purple powder emerged from the flowers and spread around the two Onix.
The Onix were so large that, although Stun Spore was a Grass-type move, its effect was limited, only slightly slowing them down.
Despite this, the girl showed no surprise. Seeing the Onix approach, she remained unfazed.
With great agility, she moved across the debris-filled terrain, which was challenging for Cain but posed no problem for her.
"Roselia, Magical Leaf! Misdreavus, use Confuse Ray!" The girl, while running, continued to give commands.
A Misdreavus hiding in the shadows suddenly appeared and launched a small sphere emitting confusing rays at one of the Onix.
Roselia, following the girl's orders, spun the roses in its hands, releasing a flurry of leaves surrounded by a magical purple glow that struck the nearest Onix.
The Grass type is four times more effective against Onix, causing the Onix to halt its pursuit due to the pain.
After Misdreavus confused one of the Onix, under the girl's commands, it worked with Roselia to take on the other Onix first.
Meanwhile, the Onix that was confused began to charge erratically, unintentionally heading straight for Cain.
Although the girl had considerable skill, it wasn't enough for Cain to feel intimidated. Onix was a Pokémon he needed as well, and now that one was right in front of him, he didn't plan to let it get away.
Once he made his decision, Cain didn't hesitate. After searching for so long without success, now that two Onix had finally appeared, he wouldn't let the chance slip away.
The Onix that accidentally approached Cain had a yellow quality, and although its level was 23, it met the hunter's mission requirements.
"Slowpoke, use Water Gun! Gastly, use Hidden Power!"
Onix, being a Ground/Rock type, is four times weaker to Water and Grass-type moves, so Slowpoke's Water Gun and Gastly's Grass-type Hidden Power were extremely effective.
The girl, who was in the middle of the battle, saw Cain suddenly appear and begin attacking the other Onix. Immediately, her face turned cold as she shouted, "Stop! That's my target!"
However, she was occupied dealing with her own enraged Onix and couldn't break free, so she could only watch helplessly as Cain attacked her prey, making her face flush with anger.
Cain, upon hearing her voice, let out a scoff but paid no attention and simply ordered Slowpoke and Gastly to intensify their attacks.
Murkrow flew in the air, observing the situation. Although the girl only had two Pokémon, no one knew if she had another trick up her sleeve, like Misdreavus, which had been hidden.
Soon, both managed to defeat their respective opponents. Cain picked up the Poké Ball containing Onix.
The girl was slightly quicker than Cain at defeating her Onix and skillfully captured it with a Poké Ball.
She approached Cain, and upon seeing him calmly pocket the Poké Ball without hesitation, a wave of anger rose again. She shouted, "Hey! Rude! I told you that was my target! Didn't you hear me?"
With that, Roselia and Misdreavus appeared in front of her, looking both adorable and menacing.
But Cain, as if he hadn't heard anything, quietly put the Poké Ball in his pocket and then looked at the girl for the first time.
Until now, he had only seen her back and knew she wore a red bandana on her head, a blue denim jacket, and slim jeans. Seeing her face, Cain realized she was younger than he had imagined, probably around his age.
Cain didn't respond to the girl's question but instead frowned and asked, "Are you a hunter?"
Hearing this, the girl was surprised. Although she didn't know how Cain had guessed, she was indeed a Pokémon hunter.
"A hunter talking about prey? Childish?" Without waiting for the girl's response, Cain continued, a hint of mockery in his voice and eyes.
Although the girl hadn't admitted it, Cain was one hundred percent sure she was a hunter.
Cain's words made her face flush even more, and although she tried to respond, she didn't know what to say. Finally, in a fit of anger, she exclaimed, "Hmph! You stole my target and still dare to argue! Roselia, use Stun Spore! Misdreavus, use Confuse Ray!"
Cain let out a cold smile. They were in the wild, and he wasn't one to hold back just because the other person was a girl. In his past life, he had defeated numerous powerful trainers, many of whom were women.
"Murkrow, disperse the Stun Spore. Slowpoke, use Confusion to break the Confuse Ray. Sneasel, use Quick Attack!"
Once the decision to battle is made, one must be prepared to completely defeat the opponent.
Murkrow quickly dispersed Roselia's Stun Spore, and Misdreavus's Confuse Ray also had no effect. Meanwhile, Sneasel was already approaching the enemy at incredible speed.
Although the girl maintained a cautious demeanor, both had kept a certain distance, so Cain's system hadn't been able to register data on her Pokémon.
However, from what he had seen in battle, the girl's Pokémon weren't weak, but they also weren't far above Cain's own.
Sneasel's Quick Attack would undoubtedly put the girl in trouble, as none of her Pokémon could stop it.
