Joel defended him. “He gets embarrassed really easy.”
Lisa kissed his head. “I’m sorry, Ken. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Joel tattled, “Ken has a crush on you, Lisa.”
“Oh?”
Ken jerked up. “No I don’t! Joel, you asshole. Why’d you say that?”
“I thought it was funny.”
Dio cut in. “Not if it offends or tells a secret.”
Ken rushed to the bedroom, with Joel right behind. Ken faced the wall. Joel hugged from behind.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m truly sorry.”
“Now she knows.”
“I’ll tell her it was a joke.”
“No, that would be lying.”
Joel faced Ken and kissed his cheek. “Please don’t be mad at me the first night with the new bed.”
“You embarrassed me. I can’t face her again.”
“I’m really sorry, Ken. I don’t know what to do or say.”
Ken sat on the bed with his knees tucked to his chest. Joel just stood in the room. A knock at the door made Ken lift his head.
