I flipped my hair, lifted a chin, braced my shoulders and supported my hip with my left hand before replying stubbornly. “Oh yes! There are a lot of things you will have to do for me, after all, this is your house….I mean….you don’t expect me to stress myself cooking for your son’s birthday while you just chill outside” “I don’t understand, I am busy attending to the guests and….” “Are you going to do my bid or should I get out of your house?!” I cut him off and he mopped at me. “Okay, what…do you want me to do?” he asked calmly. “Good, that’s more like it. Just stay right here and give me anything I ask you to” I bossed.

Chapter 5

Eva's POV

Sandra Walter is my best friend, I am planning her wedding which is coming up on November 2nd, she is getting married to Kennedy, a good friend of mine too.

She didn't hesitate to find an apartment for me next to her house when I asked her to, last week, it would be a better way to stay close with her as I plan her wedding for her.

She is more like a sister and I always find her advises meaningful and sometimes beneficial when I do listen to her but not this time, I must go on with my decision.

"I just know what am doing" I grumbled and drank the whole juice in one gulp.

"No one says you don't know what you are doing but rather I am saying that it's dangerous to play villain while you are not because you will easily get caught by the cops" She added again.

"Go get me another juice and stop this your miss adviser attitude, you should get a magazine that we will look through for a befitting wedding gown since you don't like the ones I sent you recently" I said.

"Okay, ma'am, I rest my case but remember that my friend I told you is far much better than my friend I should have told you" she said and went to the kitchen to fill my glass.

"I guess Ken must've charged his energy to 100p for him to want to marry a prophetess and the worlds best adviser" I played pushing her words to the back of my ears.

"That's your business!" She laughed and placed the glass of juice before me on a side table and added, "How did Jake ever think of writing those words?"

"I don't want to choke while drinking this juice" I joined her in the laughter, "You needed to see Sam's face, I was drawn to tears"

"That guy has mind, anyways, am not surprised, he has always had a thing for you and though he wouldn't like seeing you sad, he will love it if Sam sets you free for him"

"Don't go there, please! He did what I asked him to do so he's just helping me, don't always think negative it affects your health and life" I joined her advising team.

"I still wonder why Sam allowed you go so easily and even without Kate, you guys will never cease to amaze me" Sandra sighed.

"He told me that he's the only one that suffers in the bedroom and I just want to show him what suffer looks like" I hummed lifting the glass of juice to my mouth.

"Oh yeah! It kinda serves him right to even think of saying that but it's still a little bit dangerous"

There she goes again and the possibility of her words taking effect in this decision of mine is banging ninety percent.

No! I believe in the power of positive thinking and so, I am doing this for our good and I expect best and perfect results.

Samuel's POV

*Night*

If anyone ever tells me that women are nothing more than just partner in bed, I will remove that person's front teeth with a single blow.

And I swell to God, I will do everything in my power to bring the love of my life back to me and to our children.

Bob and Rose might not be a problem now because they are asleep already but I know they will eventually start missing their mother and might start acting trashy and complaining too.

Kate had kept quite all day after the little time she cried in the morning and had been crawling around the house with her siblings but tonight, I don't think she will ever stop crying and sleep, neither will I.

Except by miracle.

Tyrone was crying too but he stopped when I gave him milk and popcorn, he's seated on the front porch while I'm walking around with Kate to know if she will shut up for once.

"Dad?" Rose's voice called, I turned to look at her, she's standing on the doorway yawning heavily of sleep.

"She woke you again?" I asked, I don't know if I will cope with playing both parental roles in their lives, how does single fathers cope?

I picked up my telephone and dialled her number, who knows if she will pick up? The divorce paper states that calls are not allowed and she adheres strictly to all of the rules.

"Come sit down, sweetie" I said to Rose but she didn't sit, she crossed over and held her sister's leg sadly.

"Tyrone, you will fall down and sprain your neck, go to bed, okay?" She said to her brother, meanwhile, Kate's voice increased a notch.

Oh God! What have I done to myself? Who told me that I can handle this kid? Even if Eva picks up, will she be able to come here by this time of the night? God?

Why did I agree to all this in the first place? I will never forgive Jake for writing that nonsense and claiming that it is an agreement paper, what in God's name am I agreeing upon?

To agree with suffering my children?

"When is Mummy coming back?" Tyrone's voice brought me out of my mystery.

I heard a noise at the gate, I don't even know how to go about getting to check on who it is, my security man traveled four weeks ago to his village to spend time with his sick mother.

And of all times for things to get messy!

Eva didn't pick up and at the last ring, the phone became switched off, I smashed my phone on the floor and cursed her guts.

What is she even trying to prove? I knew she is just as strong headed as I am but I never knew she would be to this extent even at the cost of the kids she gave birth to by herself.

Maybe I didn't know her well as I ought to? I still maintain that it is my fault, if she was around now, I would be in a business meeting by this time and she would be on the front porch waiting all night.

I don't blame her and I will never do, she had been a product of broken home and she has taken her own share of sadness and I know that is what she is afraid of.

She doesn't want a broken heart and being a mother of children that will wander and suffer like orphans but she doesn't know that she is breaking their hearts and mine in the process of preserving it.

And for the fact that I know her very well, she's probably curled up on her bed now, weeping her soul out. I should try and carry the cross because it's all my fault.

If I had created more time for my family, I must have been able to know my children's likes and dislikes but here I am, what do I know about them?

"Let me check who is at the gate" I said to them when the knock persisted.

"Who is there?" I enquired when I got close to the gate.

"It is Benita's mother, Samuel, open the gate!" She replied, I didn't hesitate to open the gate because I know God has brought forth an angel.

The miracle is here.

"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, Debbie. You know the city is not safe when it turns dark" I apologized for her stress.

"No grudges, Sam. My daughter told me your wife traveled and I couldn't stay back there while I keep hearing her baby's cry, let me help you hold her" she offered.

She carried her immediately and started singing a lullaby as she walked around the compound while I locked the gate.

"Thanks very much for coming, I don't know how to pay you and your family back for your kindness" I thanked her and she flashed a smile.

To my surprise, Kate started calming down and she was looking at Debbie's face with contempt but her cry ceased.

"Auntie Debbie, when will my mother come back?" Tyrone came to stand beside her. I think women has amazing ways of capturing children's heart.

"She will come back soon, my love" Deborah smiled at her and planted a kiss on his forehead, he nodded affirmatively and I was relieved.

"Dad, Kate has stopped crying, let's go inside so that you will rest" Rose said worriedly. She always looks out for everyone, Bob too but he overlooks things easily.

"Take Tyrone with you inside and go to bed, I will join you shortly, Kate has to sleep first" I said forcing a smile.

"I don't want to sleep now!" Tyrone complained.

"Even when I want you and Kate to share a bed with Daddy?" I tried pulling him out of the mood.

Debbie has always been a decent and awesome aunt to my kids and best neighbor. Her husband travels out of the country regularly leaving her and her daughter here in Joy Ville estate.

I guess they understand each other for her not to get bothered about it while my wife left the house because I spend more time negotiating with clients for our family sake.

I must be unlucky. But I can swear that I was the most fortunate man to have her, I mean, she understood, I don't know what is with her sudden change in attitude.

"Tyrone, why don't you listen to your Dad and go inside, don't you know you will get infected my malaria when a mosquito bites you" Debbie stated and that made the boss's brow raise.

"I don't want to take medicine, Rose, let's go inside" He accepted and took his sister's hand. Oh yeah, he is afraid of getting infected because medicine is involved.

"Good night, Aunty Debbie, Dad" Rose bade us as they went inside.

"Da! Da!" Kate mumbled trying to pronounce the word that slipped into her ear. She got attracted to Deborah's big ear ring.

"Am here, honey, just sleep so that Daddy will also have a night rest" I answered her, she giggled and drew the ear ring so hard that Debbie winced in pain.

"Jeez, that hurts, Little woman!" Debbie shrieked playfully as I lead us to the pool side.

"Should I get you something?" I asked grateful for the help she's rendering me.

"If you don't mind, coffee is okay by me" she replied after I pulled out a chair for her to sit down beside the swimming pool.

"Okay! I ghat you" I saluted and jogged inside to fetch her a wine.

"Your wife has an amazing flower garden here!" She called after me.

That twisted my heart. I should feel happy for a fellow woman complimenting my sweet Eva...

I am probably this way because I can remember vividly the sweet memories that we left there and it feels just like yesterday.
