Chapter 74

Lily

SOMEONE KNOCKED on the hotel door, and since I’d been expecting housekeeping, I shut the television off and stood to answer it. I wasn’t ready to go back to the shop. Plus it was still an active crime scene, but I planned to spend a little time in the dining room as they clean the room.

Except when I answered, housekeeping wasn’t on the other side of the door. Katy pushed her way in and closed the door behind her, looking like she was sneaking in for a secret meeting.

She looked me over as if expecting something outrageous, like a black eye or a broken arm. "I thought he had you stashed in here as a prisoner."

"Well, I’m not stashed exactly." Jerome did rush me into the hotel under cover of darkness last night and then told me not to leave without him today, but I wouldn’t use stashed or prisoner to describe it. More like secured.

There was a difference. Right?

Probably.
