Chapter 9 The Dream
'Where am I? What was I doing? Where's Stella? Is she alright?'
Seline began to regain her consciousness. Her mind was working normally again.
Previously, she was in so much pain that she didn't think much. At that moment, what was in her mind was the desire to take Stella away from the place quickly.
All that was happening was too strange for her.
Previously, she noticed the transparent ball's existence, 'nailed' several hundred meters above her head.
Later, there was a blinding light that engulfed everyone.
As the light went out, while she still had an eye glare due to the bright light and had not recovered her eyes, her mind was flooded with unknown memory fragments.
This caused a tremendous headache to her, so great that her whole body felt the pain.
At that moment, what was on her consciousness was not to digest these memories nor to determine their source.
'I need to take Stella away to safety quickly,' she kept thinking this while fighting to remain conscious until she finally fainted.
Unknowingly, she had lost consciousness for almost a whole day before she regained her thinking ability. Despite her brain regaining clarity, she was still too weak to open her eyes and wake up.
Thus, she continued to close her eyes in drowsiness.
She began to ponder about the chain of events that had occurred during the day.
After her brain regained its pondering ability, she started sorting out the memory fragments that she previously received.
The person in the memory was also named Selva Seline. However, she could not determine whether it was herself from the future, whether it was Seline from a different dimension, or whether it was just a person with the same name.
Compared to herself, the Seline in the memories had never smiled. She had a burn on her left cheek with a scar from the ear to the neck. Presumably, it was left behind after narrowly escaping death. She was callous and cold with a hint of desperation and sadness.
There were several world settings where Seline in the memory lived in.
There was a desolate city that had fallen to ruins. Pungent bloody smells, broken limbs, and scattered corpses could be found in many parts of the city.
It didn't seem to be a scene of the current world, nor a ruined world caused by war and nuclear winter. From the traces of the city's destruction, it was more due to fights with some unknown beasts and large animals.
Unfortunately, she had not inherited the whole memory fragment, thus preventing her from determining the complete story behind the destruction.
Another part of the memory, the same Seline, was now seen in a highly advanced world. Floating cities and fortresses could be seen from afar. Flying vehicles and buildings, which she assumed to be moving transportation similar to modern world RV, could be seen everywhere.
At the same time, in the memory fragment, she seemed to be hurrying towards a nearby floating transmission channel. Yes, she was rushing forward, very quickly, while flying.
She was not mistaken. Seline was flying by herself. For a moment, she thought the memory fragment was a dream. When did the genre of the memory fragment move into a fantasy cultivation world? She was not dazzled, right? Or was it a game world integrating Virtual Reality, similar to the popular anime she saw multiple times ages ago?
Though there don't seem to be wings on her back.
Plus, the flying experience was so real that it didn't seem part of a game. Is this what they describe in the anime and fiction works, the so-called 100% realism virtual reality?
Nonetheless, there's also too little information from memory fragments that she could not judge. But from seeing the situation, the bad news was that, in this world, she was still hurrying somewhere to fight a battle or a war.
In the memory, she led a group of desperate fighters to transmit to a remote world. Their task was to defend the fortress there. And the battle was conducted on the starry field.
A rather farfetched plot development.
She does not know where to retort when seeing the scene.
Let's first ignore for a moment that she was 'flying' around in a vacuum without any air to 'lift' or breathe. It was ridiculous that among her comrades, there were not only human compatriots but also various kinds of alien races.
There's even the ant clan among them!
Shouldn't the normal plot development have the insects and the Zerg clan in the enemy camp? When did they mix with humans?
As the scene was cut short, the following memory fragment surfaced.
This was a world where ancient monuments and ruins could be seen everywhere. Despite traces of destruction and apocalypse, these ruins still retained their once glorious splendor as a testament to the great civilization that once stood here.
It appears that the time spans to be decades after the battle. A much older and wise-looking Seline was leading a search party, venturing deep into the forest ruins.
As the group went deep into the ruins, they met another group of people. And among them, Lu Yang was one of its members.
Yes, even after watching what appears to be decades of memories, Seline had never seen Lu Yang in them until now. Thus, she was still second-guessing the Seline in the dream was only someone with the same name as her.
It was only at this moment she determined it was her.
As for was it a parallel world? Future prediction? Message from the future? Time regression? She still could not find out which one it was.
But for her, this was not important!
From the memories till now, one thing she had noticed. The person she most cared about had never appeared in any of them!
Stella was nowhere could be seen!!!
Panicking, she immediately paid more attention to the memory fragment. She needed to find any details she could to find where Stella was.
As the memory continued to replay in her mind, the two groups immediately clashed as if they were jealous of each other. The group Lu Yang was in was equally powerful. The fight spreads from the jungle into the ruins and the sky.
After several clashes, Seline and the opposite leader had called for a halt. Despite fragmentary details, Seline still knows they had temporarily reached a truce to avoid unnecessary casualties.
Despite occasional bickering, the two teams continued walking further into the ruins.
At one point, Seline and Lu Yang got hot-headed, and finally, an argument broke out. The catalyst for the fight seems to be their long-standing grudges. Each of them was unforgiving. They could not tolerate the other, making their argument escalate.
The 'current' Seline, who was watching the memories intently, suspected that the argument stemmed from the absence of their daughter.
Unfortunately, they both tacitly did not mention anything regarding Stella, making 'current' Seline unable to search the news to the bottom.
Despite the tense atmosphere among the two teams, they finally reached the core area, a temple as high as hundreds of meters. It makes one wonder why the temple was constructed enormously in those ancient times.
In front of the entrance to the temple, a giant blue-scaled flood dragon was sleeping there, guarding the entrance. Given the proximity and location between the flood dragon and the temple's gate, they could never smoothly enter the temple without dealing with it.
They needed to either lure the flood dragon away from the temple from the entrance or defeat it, fair and square.
Later, as the battle ensued, some party members acted as bait while the rest immediately entered the temple. Several people were sacrificed in the process.
Until now, Seline did not know the purpose for them to come this far at the cost of sacrificing their comrade's life.
Compared to previous memory fragments, this memory seemed more complete. It entailed many details of her experiences. It began from their entrance into the ruins until they reached deep into the temple.
It almost showed Seline's journey step-by-step as she reached the deepest part of the temple.
Along the way, there were many traces of tattered residential buildings, exploded medicine gardens, burned breeding farms, a ruined library, and many other unrecognizable buildings. The only similarity between these buildings was that they were gigantic and broad.
When they reached the core area of the temple, a completely intact main palace could be seen. Similarly, it was huge with a majestic atmosphere. It was evident that the building was the administrative building of the temple and where the priest resided.
The expedition group appears to come here with a specific target. Many treasures, books, inheritance, and artifacts found along the way were neglected by them as they hurried along toward the core area.
Entering the palace, there was nothing inside. Besides traces of fighting, there was no other thing inside. It was empty.
Looking at the memory, the 'current' Seline didn't know why it was empty, nor could she infer anything from the memory. She only knows this group of people kept looking around for something.
When each of them was moving around to find some clue, the 'future' Seline moved around until she came over to a slightly hidden corner.
While 'future' Seline appeared to be oblivious to what was in front of her, 'current' Seline recognized it.
It was the transparent sphere she had seen during the day!!
