I was on my way to Sura town with Regilus and his party. we had a pretty smooth journey except for a few goblin and wolf attacks. With our strength, we were able to defeat without much trouble. I could also feel myself getting stronger with each fight. Other than using fire magic (which was the only element I could use in front of other people), I also secretly used other types of magic to improve them. Like using wind magic as an air conditioner. My dark magic seemed to have gotten stronger as well. It didn't do anything else other than increase my perception, but I was able to use in broad daylight without anyone else noticing.
"This road usually never has any monsters on it. But it seems that the number of low-leveled monsters is increasing.", Regilus said in thought.
"You are right. We have to report it to the guild for an investigation.", one of the party members said with an excited expression.
I was confused as to why that adventurer was so excited so I asked, "Is the number of monsters increasing really that good? You seem to be too happy about it."
"Since we are the ones reporting it, we will definitely be put in the investigation. Investigations issued by the guild are very good source to make money and increase your rank."
"Is that so? It seems fun." Judging from their words, it seems like guild investigations are much better than other investigations.
We arrived in Sura town and after parting ways from the villager that we escorted, I went with Regilus and the other to the adventurer's guild. On arriving, the guild building was a typical looking build that I see in anime. Even though it was a sub-branch, it was quite big, it made me wonder how big the main branch will be. Regilus handed me some registration fee and told me to get myself registered, while he made a report about his mission.
At this time, you would expect a beautiful receptionist waiting for you to register, but what I saw was just massive lady of the hippo-kin. Aside from her nose and eyes, she looked very human like. She gave the aura of a crime boss. But unlike her appearance, she was rather childish.
"Is this your first time inside and adventurers guild? Do you have any identification or testify for you?"
"This is my first time inside. I don't have any identification, but Regilus can testify for me.", I replied nonchalantly.
"Oh, you know Regilus? Very well. While we wait for him, fill this form here. There are something's that are optional like your job-class, but things like your name and age are important."
I didn't think I could be able to read the form, but to my surprise, I could not only read, but write with extreme fluency. I am so glad that Mr. Devil turned out to be such a good guy, making it possible for me to read and write too. After I filled out the form, the receptionist started giving me a brief on what the guild is and how it works.
"The guild is an International Neutral Organization where anyone can come and issue commissions or quests to hire adventurers. The person issuing the quest has to specify the difficulty and prepare a reward worthy of the quest. The guild takes a small cut from adventurers when they complete a quest. The main branches are located in big cities like the capital, while other places have a sub-branch of a size equivalent to the town's reputation. Each main branch has its own assigned sub branches."
"Wow! The adventurers guild is quite the thing.", even though I knew what it is, I was still in awe of the massive scale of this organization.
"Among the adventurers, there is a ranking system where 'S' rank is the highest, followed by 'A' all the way to 'G'. Usually, poor civilians and people from the country side don't have an ID, so they register with the guild to get an ID for cheap. Civilians are assigned the 'G' rank. You just need to do one quest to be assigned to the 'F' rank, which means that you are a newbie adventurer. The higher your rank, the more the guild will favor you. You might be scouted by various nobles as well. Other than quests, subjugating monsters and dungeons is also a way to increase your rank."
The explanation was way too long. I already know this suff. The receptionist kept on talking about adventurers and how the guild's influence is spread around the world, when I was saved by Regilus, who just finished his report.
"Tino! Did you take care of the registration of my friend there?", Regilus asked in a causal tone to the receptionist.
"So, you do know this guy. Is he your new party member?"
"It's not like that. This guy was actually the one who saved Rillton village. So I would appreciate if you could promote him to 'F' rank."
"Ok I will. Give me a moment and I will prepare your guild card."
Tino(receptionist) went inside with haste. As soon as she went, Regilus asked me.
"Hey, I hope she didn't bother you too much. She has a very talkative personality. When I joined, she didn't stop talking until the branch master had to come himself to stop her."
"It isn't hard to tell."
Me and Regilus chatted for a bit until Tino came back with my card and started explaining its features.
"The guild card is a magic item that cannot be forged, and works across all branches. Every time you take a quest, submit your report or do anything else, you will need to present your card. The card stores your information and automatically increases your rank once you reach the criteria. Also, we need a drop of your blood so that the card can know the details you didn't specify in the registration form. But don't worry, other than you and the ones you chose, no one else can view your information. Also…"
"Ok, ok that's enough. Let's stop there. Ray, come with me and I will take you to an inn.", Regilus quickly butted in and took me away before things got out of hand.
"By the way, here your pay. 5 bronze coins. This is for defending the village in our place."
"Oh, thank you. Now that you mention it, I don't know much about the currency. I stayed in the village all this time so can you tell me about it." I asked the villagers to keep my situation of extreme memory loss a secret from the adventurers. So, we decided that I will be a boy who recently awakened his powers to use magic.
"Oh sure. We have a coin system that is accepted worldwide. Each nation had its own currency, but ever since the guild gained popularity, a new coin system was adopted worldwide. It took decades but this system was accepted without much resistance. The most valued coins are the platinum coins, then gold, silver, bronze and copper. Each 100 copper = 1 bronze, 100 bronze = 1 silver and so on."
"Oh, is that so, I have 30 bronze, will this be enough for the stay at the inn?" I have to get a better idea of how the costs of different things work in this world. I should go to the market some time and some research.
"Don't worry. The inn is cheap and has good food."
We went to the inn and after I got a room for myself. It was almost night time, so after having dinner, which was extremely delicious, I decided to rest and wait for the next day to get myself more familiarized with myself with the adventurer's lifestyle. The room costed 2 bronze coins per night and 30 copper for the meal I ate. I had a soundless sleep as the night went by peacefully.
