CHAPTER 9: THE TEMPLES OF THE NEW WORLD
While the fliers inspect the high points of the mountains, it is somewhat strange, the only animals they have seen, are some small black birds and an unpleasant squawk.
There are other larger birds that are similar to the harpies of their kingdom, but with some variants, they have the body of a, bird wings, bird's feet and squat into treetops and stones, their eyes have no pupil, are black in their entirety, have long tongue and amorated skin.
They squeal and talk to them, offer them a home on the island.
The protectors, seeing the bad image of those harpies, move away from them.
It is obvious that they are dangerous and will attack them if they have the opportunity, their duty is to explore, not interfere.
Some have reached another of the islands, where there is a large temple, much larger than on the other islands, equally in ruins, although clean.
In the temple where DWYER is, the group of 17 humans are on standby, prepared, attentive to every sound, advancing slowly, trying to reach those sobs to help those who need it.
In another of the temples, on the adjoining island, this temple is also in ruins, almost devastated, dirty, its columns mostly whole, contrast much with the major temple, in some of these, there seem to be marks of scratches.
The fliers agree to walk close, the pillars are also narrow, so they can't pass easily, they think those scratches can be the work of some animal that roams the place, if they see it, they'll take it away from humans.
Then, the group of 16 men, is about to advance within it.
It is a tense environment, smells of moisture and decomposed food is felt in the air, it is sour.
As they progress, you hear sounds behind them. However, it's a strange sound, as if something slipped.
This worries them a lot, they grab their weapons harder.
In the large temple are some faucets and qilines, with the other 17 humans.
They are amazed by the ruins of those temples, inside, found figures made of marble and limestone, certainly appreciated details for any enclosure.
Still, there are no details of why they were destroyed or abandoned.
In the temple of sounds, those men strained to the end of the temple, discover that it is connected to a cave, this aspect looks quite bad.
They have understood that this cry does not come from any innocent, inside the cave you can see the light of a flame, not far from the entrance.
Humans are restless, the leader slowly orders the sound of something crawling, wandering among the pillars.
Here's a lot of darkness, the leader asks DWYER if he thinks it's wise to explore the cave.
Councilman DWYER, is the one who must decide whether or not to enter.
The situation seems risky, at this point, and you have noticed something, the woman's crying has ceased, it was certainly a trap.
DWYER orders quick withdrawal.
The feeling that something will attack them is imminent.
They're rushing out. Just then, in front of them, a half-snake humanoid monster with snakes by hair begins to erect, closing the escape route on them.
The monstrous being attacks them furiously, setting sails and bites with the snakes on his head.
They manage to dodge some attacks with the use of their magic weapons, they are men trained to fight, that beast attacks several at once, men cut off some of their hair heads, however, they grow back, more ferocious than the previous ones, many of them manage to bite some humans, among them the leader of the group, who at the moment begin to feel the powerful poison of those reptiles.
Some of the humans run inside the cave believing that they will be able to hide, however, inside the cave, the flame is extinguished, a slight macabre laugh is heard inside it and they see bright eyes that open inside that darkness, coming from a figure with snake hair.
All those who looked at that splendor head-on began to feel hardness in his body, his body began to change, becoming petrified.
Only 3 men apart from Councilman DWYER are still standing.
Armed, tense in the midst of those two beasts.
