The System

Riynsu woke up gasping and clutched his chest. After the pain went away, He looked around, wondering where he was, eventually figuring he was in the hospital.

"How'd I get here?" He wondered.

"Are you awake now?"

Riynsu turned and saw 2 men wearing suits. One of them passed a card to him.

"I'm sorry if we surprised you." The man said.

Riynsu looked at the card to see that they were part of the Japan Hunter Guild's inspectors.

The inspectors' Division was the only department in the Hunter's Association with many strong Hunters on their payroll. Well, since this department was tasked with managing the country's Hunters so, quite obviously, they would employ many high-class Hunters to facilitate that purpose.

Riynsu turned to the man and asked, "Why would inspectors want to see me?"

The man, who gave Riynsu the card, then explained that they had found him in the dungeon and he was in the hospital. It's been three days.

"I see. What happened to those who returned alive." Riynsu asked.

"They are safe, but a few of them have severe injuries or mental trauma. They may even choose to retire. The number of people who survived was 8. It turns out the gate you entered was a double dungeon. When the inspectors and Draw Sword Guild had reached the scene, The statues that the others described were never found." He replied.

"Huh? But how?"

"It is true. We only found you, hanging in the centre of the room being held by some glowing claw."

"We have a theory. We believe you have received the 'Double Awakening'.

A hunter's stats are set when they receive the 'Awakening' of power. However, some hunters get awakened again after the first time. There have been cases of C-Ranks shooting straight to an A-Rank, or B-Ranks ploughing directly to S-Rank.

The second man had then put a magic power detector in front of Riynsu.

"This is the magic power detector. All you have to do is place your hand on the mana crystal." He told Riynsu.

On top of a circular plate, there was a fist-sized magic crystal embedded in the middle. Its colour was pitch-black as if it was a black hole that wanted to suck him in.

Riynsu then placed his hand on the mana crystal. The device then showed the number 302.

'On his file, it says he got a 302 on his first aptitude test.' The second inspector thought, looking at the device. "It turns out we suspected you for no reason." Telling Riynsu.

Realising that being here was a waste of time as nothing had changed in Riynsu's power the two inspectors left. Riynsu watched them leave the room.

"Nothing? Oh well..."

He thought about it and nothing had changed for him. He then wondered why the Japanese had suspected that he received a double awakening when he was injured and barely alive that he was unconscious for three days.

It then hit him. They thought he was the one to defeat the mysterious statues. But then again, even if he did go through a double awakening, it would still be difficult for him to kill all those statues anyway.

Riynsu then looked up from his bed. "It seems they couldn't see that."

He was talking about the 'words' floating in the air. It looked like some hologram that had some words on it.

[You have unread mail.]

At first, when he saw it, he thought he was going crazy. But he was certain that he had seen words just like it before he passed out. The words had been there the entire time the inspectors came and asked him questions. Yet every time he blinked or looked away, the screen was still there with nothing changing.

So now he was very curious about this screen and the contents of those 'unread mail'. He then stretched out his hand and tried to tap the screen but, his finger went right through it.

"It's not touch screen?" He wondered.

He was puzzled. It seems he was way too used to his smartphone and he didn't have a controller to select his so-called mail like in video games. He couldn't think of any other way than tapping the 'icon' to access the messages.

Thinking back, the unknown voice could get his intentions by either thinking or speaking it out loud.

Riynsu then started to speak possible words one by one towards the screen.

"Confirm."

"Mail."

"Check mail."

"Mailbox."

"Inbox"

"Read."

Not being able to figure it out, Riynsu gave up.

Thinking aloud, Riynsu said, "How the hell am I suppose to 'open' my mai -."

B'ding!

He was cut off, by a beep that had entered his head, the mail revealed itself.

[There are two unread messages.]

– Congratulations on becoming a [Player] (unread)

– [Daily Quest: Preparations to become strong] is now available. (unread)

Riynsu looked at the first message.

– Congratulations on becoming a [Player] (unread)

'check'

[The system will help the 'Player's growth.]

[If he fails to obey the system's orders, There may be a penalty.]

[Your rewards have arrived.]

So the 'System' would help his 'growth' and if he disobeyed there'll be a 'penalty' and there were 'rewards'.

'just what will it help grow and what will it reward me with?' Riynsu pondered. He then turned to see the other message.

– [Daily Quest: Preparations to become strong] is now available. (unread)

"Preparing to become strong?" He questioned. "Check."

"What the?! This is crazy!" Exclaimed Riynsu. His eyes were then drawn to the last words.

Riynsu sighed in defeat. "I guess I have no choice, do I? If this so-called system can give me a second chance at life, I don't want to know what it'll do if it intends to punish me."

Riynsu then proceeded and went on all fours in a press-up position. He then started to do 10 sets of 10 press-ups. Then he did 10 sets of sit-ups and squats. After he was exhausted so he did a 10-minute rest before doing his run. He ran around the front of the hospital till he reached the 10km mark.

B'ding!

Stopping in his tracks, Riynsu was heavily panting and wheezing once in a while. He then looked up to the screen in front of him.

Another screen then popped up which revealed the quest rewards.

"Accept status recovery," He said panting.

A Green glow engulfed him as the fatigue in his body disappeared as if it wasn't even there in the first place.

It had been 4 days since he woke up and during those days. Riynsu had found out a few things. The screen in front of him was called the 'system'. No one else can see it beside him. After doing the daily quest exercise the rewards were magic that would heal his fatigue, Stat points and a random box. He could increase the stats of his character as long as he had stat points. He gets stronger as he increased his character points. Of course, levelling up would do the same.

Status, Skills, Items, Inventory, Item storage. It was just like a game.

Riynsu was now in front of the desk at the reception of the hospital. He was speaking to the nurse.

"Can I take a leave for today?"

"That's fine. The Doctor said No excessive exercise however light exercise should be fine."

Riynsu was now in front of a library. He had a key in his hand. "It's time to see what this key does." He looked at the key he had in his hand. It came from the random box that would come out every time he cleared the daily quest. Other times in the box, he would get bandages, pens and combs but in his latest box, he got a key.

There were only a couple of people in the library and they were either on the computers or reading a book. He looked around and seeing that there was no one to see him, he aimed the key and put it forward.

Then electricity sparked in the middle of the door frame. A light flash appeared and it revealed a blue portal. It was a dungeon gate. Mana emitted from the gate.

Riynsu looked at the gate before stepping in.

"Well, I guess I'm doing this..."
