The Moment He Waited For So Long

Sunday morning, when Lian Qiang left the mansion very early. Zhang Jin instantly got an idea about what to do. He even took a peek outside his transparent window making sure his bodyguard already left the mansion. He prepared himself to get ready to go outside.

He sneaked outside of his room not to let the maids know about him leaving. When he finally got the chance to go to where their vehicles were parked, he straight away looked for his motorbike. He instantly put on the helmet properly on his head.

The loud noises of the vehicle echoed at the garage outside the mansion when he instantly drove away.

"Young master!" The maids were panicking trying to halt Zhang Jin to go somewhere but he immediately squeezed the handlebar of the motorbike to boost the speed.

He happened to time it just right as he drove out of the mansion, noticing the gateway was open. He smiled mischievously when he found out he already got out from the mansion alone.

This is the moment he has been waiting for so long, to go out alone without that woman. It was as if the thorn and chain wrapped around his neck had been removed. He even let the motorbike more faster than before so that he could easily went to the city.

The pulse of the city resonated in his ears. He had been yearning to venture out alone ever since he was forbidden to leave. The hum of conversations, the bustle of people moving about, and the very essence of the city's core surrounded him.

He finally got to the city road and he immediately drove through the outskirts place. Zhang Jin's heart raced as he approached the gathering. The familiar sights and sounds of the racing circuit were all around him. The roar of engines, the excited chatter of the crowd, and the smell of gasoline filled the air.

Yi Han, an old competitor and a childhood friend, was leaning against his motorbike, waving a huge amount of money. Their history was filled with intense competitions and close finishes. "Zhang Jin!" Yi Han called out, his voice dripping with fake warmth. "It's been a while. Missed the thrill?"

Zhang Jin tightened his grip on his bike's handlebars. "Always up for a good race," he replied, trying to keep his voice steady.

Yi Han smirked, flashing the money. "How about a bet? A race for old times' sake?"

Feeling the weight of the crowd's expectation and the lure of the open road, Zhang Jin nodded. "Sure. Let's do it."

The racers took their positions. The energy was palpable, a mix of excitement and tension. Engines revved, waiting for the signal. With a loud cheer from the crowd, they were off.

Zhang Jin felt the wind rush past him, every energy of his being focused on the road. It was a close race. Every time he overtook one competitor, another would zoom past him. But Zhang Jin was determined. He recalled his past races, the turns and tactics, and applied them all.

The finish line was in sight. Using a burst of speed he'd been saving, Zhang Jin raced ahead, crossing the finish line a fraction of a second before the others. The crowd erupted in cheers. Zhang Jin felt on top of the world. But not everyone was pleased especially the group of people who were part of Yi Han's gang and even himself.

Yi Han, with his bet gone wrong, was furious. His face, red with anger, turned even redder when he saw the satisfied grin on Zhang Jin's face.

"You shouldn't have won!" Yi Han spat, pushing Zhang Jin.

Before Zhang Jin could react, Yi Han's gang surrounded him. Their intentions were clear. One of them swung a punch, hitting Zhang Jin in the stomach. He tried to fight back, but he was outnumbered.

Each punch, each kick, felt like a betrayal. This was the world of racing he loved, and yet it had turned so ugly, so quickly. His helmet even removed in his head because of the impact. People from the crowd tried to intervene, shouting at the gang to stop, but the noise was deafening, and the gang was relentless.

The moment they started kicking, pushing and punching him, he prayed that Lian Qiang will come and save him but nobody was there to save him. If only he listened and stayed home, this wouldn't have happened. Now he felt really guilty. That thought wouldn't leave his mind. He wished he had made a different choice.

It felt like hours before they finally stopped from beating him, lying bruised and battered on the ground. The cheers of victory were now replaced by murmurs of sympathy and concern.

The crowd nervously shouted and ran away when they spotted the police. They were coming towards them. They were caught one by one including him. The police shouted with authority when some of the members of the gang wanted to get away.

Six members of Yi Han's gang were captured. He couldn't even find Yi Han among those who got caught by the police. The police and even the officers from the Orphan Mission pointed the gun at them. They put their both hands in the air.

When one of the police went to him, he helped him to get up and endured the pain from his body. He insisted himself to stand up even though he couldn't handle his dizziness.

He tasted blood in his mouth and felt blood dripping from his forehead too. The warm liquid on his skin told him he was hurt badly. Even though he felt weak and his face must have looked pale, he still had some strength left inside him.

He tried to gather himself, the bitter taste of reality hit him. Racing was thrilling, but it came with its dangers, not just on the road but off it too. The real challenge was not just winning the race but dealing with everything that came after.

He forgot everything.

He forgot because of what happened.

And he forgot that he ran away from the mansion and even lied to Lian Qiang.
