Chapter 108: Lucky?

Even as flames came towards him and the heat tortured his body, Max just stood there and didn't transform using his Devil Fruit. Instead, he seemed to welcome the burning sensation with pain in his eyes.

He looked at the others as his skin boiled. "Have you ever thought about how hard it is to sometimes train your Haki after a certain level?"

Trebol, Pica, Diamante, they all felt fear grip their hearts as they looked at Max burning alive. Only now the men understood that their opponent was a madman. No, even calling him a madman wouldn't be enough. 

"Also if I enter my Awakened form, the more powerful my base form is, the stronger my awakening will be," Max explained casually, as some of the skin on his face peeled right off, showing the muscled under his face. But what was even more terrifying was that the muscles in his face wriggled like worms as they burned. It seemed like each strand of muscle had a mind of its own.

"Right now, the fire hurts so much so I have to keep talking to try and distract myself from the pain." He looked at his burning hand with a strange gaze. Slowly his body started turning darker as it was covered in Haki. 

Fwish!

His body was forcefully ripped off from the flames and sticky glue substance. There was no technique or trick to the method of escape, Max just bullheadedly powered through. 

Diamante's eyes widened in fear. "Tre-" 

He didn't get to finish his words as three dark objects flew in the air and fell back on the ground. Max looked at them, the three objects were Trebol, Pica's, and Diamante's decapitated heads. Their necks were sloppily torn and it showed that instead of being cut, their heads had been forcefully pulled off. 

Blood dripped down Max's fingers, showing the 'weapons' that he had used. He had fresh burn scars all over his body and glanced at them calmly. "I heard fish is good for the skin."

For him, none of these injuries would leave a scar as long as he cut off the burned end of the skin. Just like when Luffy regenerated a whole tooth from drinking milk, Max could do something similar with Life Return. 

The door opened and a beautiful dark-haired woman with an hourglass figure came in, she had a maid outfit on her. The woman was Baby-5, someone who was quite infamous. 

Suddenly she immediately stopped in shock as her brain caught up to the carnage she witnessed in the room. Her colleague's headless bodies were on the ground and one of them had a hole where his heart should be.

Baby-5 saw Max and asked.."Wha-"

Baam!

Before she could react or do anything, Max punched her and crushed her head like a watermelon.

After that, he then went around and started killing the rest of the Doflamingo Pirates, Senior Pink, Gladius, Machvise, and everyone else was slaughtered without a second thought by Max.

The difference in power between them was too wide so unless Max was intentionally messing around, there was no chance of him losing this fight. Especially since he knew all of their powers and special techniques from the Anime. There was no threat from Sugar either, as her ability to turn people into toys after touching them was useless now. Since he already knew about it.

By the time the Marines came to Dressrosa, it was at the perfect time and Max was already perfectly healed. There was no sign of injury on his body. Though the Marines were in a little bit of a shock once they saw the crucified bodies of the Doflamingo Pirates.

Negan smiled at it. "Never knew you could be so ruthless Boss-Man. It makes me feel all tingly like a girl who just had her first crush."

"You could have worded that better," Max said simply as he signaled one of the marines to bring him a new uniform. The one he was wearing was

Something unexpected happened, as Vergo suddenly charged at Max. The Vice-Admiral's eyes were filled with malicious rage. 

But he didn't get far as Negan was on his back not even a second later. "Ahoy there~ where do you think you are going?"

Negan grabbed the back of Vergo's head and slammed it on the ground.

Baam!!

Vergo swung his bamboo covered in Haki at Negan. But it wasn't able to even touch the latter as he dodged the attack with lighting speed and got out of its range.  

"Now this is more fun," Negan muttered and extended his hand towards the ship, as golden dust flew from the ship and came towards his palm. Slowly the golden sand formed into a shiny spiked bat. He then charged at Vergo and he got ready to battle too.

Clang!

Golden dark spiked bat bamboo clashed and the attacks were equally powerful. But Negan had an overwhelming advantage. That was… his speed.

*bzzzzt*

Negan's body turned into lightning and he appeared behind Vergo, but the latter was able to cover his whole body in Armament Haki.

But as Negan's bat swung on his head, the power behind it suddenly increased and its owner had a malicious smile on his face. "Sorry, but unless it's Boss, anyone else will have a hard time dealing with me. I am a very tricky opponent."

Crack!

Vergo's body slumped to the ground as a feeling of despair enveloped him. He could feel his skull caved in. But contrary to most, the man welcomed death. He no longer had no one else dear to him in this world. Neither Doflamingo nor the Crew. All of this was attributed to the man standing casually there, looking at him amusingly.

'Is this how it ends?' Wondered Vergo one last time as he fell unconscious. The G-5 Marines looked at this in shock, no one could believe what had happened. 

"Vergo! Why did he attack?"

"Was he a traitor all along?"

"T -That can't be true!"

Many of them were in denial about what happened. But the truth was right in front of them.

"Vergo, Doflamingo's second in command and also known as his spy in the Marines," Max concluded, his voice shutting down any doubt the Marines had. After all, in their eyes an Admiral's words were absolute.

Negan smiled and picked up Vergo. "We will need to interrogate this guy."

Max nodded. "I will leave that to you. Also, make sure the doctors give it their all to not let the man die."

The Lightning Fruit's user would have had his face split if his smile could get any wider. The look on his face was so creepy that no one except a few dared to look at it. "Sure~ Boss-Man."

-Max POV-

Negan had come quite a long way. By now he was about equal to a Yonko Commander. Someone who was finally good enough to stand as my right-hand man. 

Still, though, Dessrosa was now in my hands and so were the Smileys. Cesar would work for anyone who paid him, his loyalties didn't lie with Doflamingo. This way I should be able to get a lot of Smileys and use them to empower my army. To strong people, the smileys are like useless toys, a fake created by a scientist's failure. But that could make an army so strong that no other army in the world would be able to match it. 

I wonder if Reiju would be able to figure out what Smiley was made of? Then I could kill off Cesar, that guy is a snake, there was no need for someone like that to be in this world. He was too smart and dangerous, but his knowledge was useful.

Raynare kept looking at me as if she was deciphering something. Ain was next to her and whispered something in her ear. It made Raynare chuckle.

I smiled at Raynare when our eyes met and she waved back. But something felt weird about it. Her emotions were a mess, I could sense them clearly by using Observation Haki.

Hm? What's wrong with her? She looks weird. As in, she probably is thinking something deep. Raynare wasn't dumb by any means, but she rarely thought things over too much. Did she finally learn about the affair I was having with Reiju on the side? No, she probably knew long before now. So what is she thinking about now?

If I was in her shoes… hmmm… I would worry about Reiju stealing me from her. There were many other possibilities, but this was the most likely option. Now would that behavior lead to betrayal? Who knows. 

I trust both Negan and Raynare with my life if the time comes for it. But that trust will never be blind. I need to know everything about them, how they act and what they do. Letting my life in the hands of someone who I didn't know about at least that much would be disastrous. 

Now Raynare just stepped down in her trustworthiness level. Why? Because she acted like that. I will never let any suspicious behavior pass. Now the question stood. Should I kill her? 

"Max," Gion suddenly called me. "Did you have to crucify them?"

No, this wasn't sudden, it would happen eight seconds in the future. Observation Haki at such levels was quite useful in many other areas, even out of fighting.

"Max," Gion suddenly called me. "Did you have to crucify them?"

She pointed at the bodies of the Doflamingo Pirates. 

"Yes, I had to. This will send a message, we will destroy criminals. Since Impel Down has been destroyed, imprisonment has become useless. There is no other prison people will ever fear." I explained, but in reality, it was because Vergo had amazing self-control. I doubt he would have ever broken out of character and attacked me otherwise. 

I knew his weak spot and took advantage of it. He was quite good too, as even after I killed Doffy, he never even insinuated at being angry at me. Even though I knew he was.

Gion opened her mouth to say something but stopped as suddenly, out of nowhere, the sky started darkening and thunderclouds came about. 

"What's with your face?" Asked Gion, I had unconsciously made an annoyed expression.

"Well… this sucks. Things were going so smoothly." I couldn't help but complain, taking over so many islands felt like I was on a lucky streak. There were no big enemies and nothing to worry about. Seemed like my luck ran out. Well, I was never lucky enough to be considered a lucky guy. 

"What? It's just some thunder clouds, they might have appeared suddenly but this isn't that rare in the Grand Line." Gion seemed confused by my complaints. But she hadn't seen the monster I just saw due to my Observation Haki.

"It's not the clouds I am worried about, but what comes after them." After clarifying that, I pointed at the sky as lightning rumbled in the clouds, lighting them and a serpentine figure became visible for a split second. 

Now everyone was terrified, even Gion's body shook with fear. "N -No way…"
