Chapter 35

Now that the child was gone, Nathan told himself that he had to stay with her no matter what, as he could not let her come to any further harm.

Time passed. A restless Nathan could only pace back and forth as he desperately wished for the people in the operating room to come out quickly before he went insane.

Half an hour later, several nurses pushed the weakened Ella out of the operating room. Nathan followed them, but Ella only stared blankly at the ceiling that passed by as they moved. She did not see nor hear Nathan's words. Her eyes were still wet with tears.

Ella lay on the hospital bed. Seeing his beloved lying there without speaking, Nathan felt an unspeakable pain deep in his heart. He teared up as he held Ella's weak hand before pressing a kiss on it. It was as if he was kissing her out of penance as he said, "Ella, it's all my fault. I didn't take good care of you. Please forgive me. You can hit or yell at me. Do whatever you want. Just say something, please?"
