Chapter 58

“What’s so funny?” I asked.

He erupted. It wasn’t a happy laugh, but it told me about his worry and anxiousness and relief over the encounter. “I thought he was going to go all cliché on me,” he gasped out between gales of laughter. “Hurt my brother again and I’ll kill you,” he said in a crappy imitation of Harrison.

“So did I,” I said with a chuckle. Vee turned to me and flung his arms around me and squeezed me until I had a hard time breathing.

“Thank you,” he said.

“For what?” I wound my arms around his middle and resisted the urge to slide my hands down to his ass.

“For giving me a chance.”

I didn’t reply. Hopefully, I wouldn’t regret it. But what I’d said to Harrison was the truth. The “what ifs” would corrode me from the inside if I didn’t find out if we had a chance. Because nothing had ever felt so good as it did to have him back in my arms.

We didn’t have time to talk because his phone went off after we’d heated up and eaten the ziti.
