Chapter 4

Ivy paced back and forth in her room. She was anxious and surprisingly not that much heartbroken. Her brothers had pointed out that she was no longer crying when they caught up with her. She didn't know why but she had a tiny bit of suspicion as to what or rather who the culprit was.

The strange werewolf she had met earlier was currently running through her mind. She felt herself collapse on the bed and try to cover her face with her pillow. She was trying hard, really hard, to forget him but to no avail. She hadn't even seen his face and he had made such a strong impression on her.

And the way he saved her. It was something out of a fairy tale and she couldn't deny that in that moment, he took her breath away.

She remembered the words that he had said and felt flushed. Before she could dwell on the feeling too long, she soon remembered the conversation that they had.

He had insulted the mate selection ritual. She didn't know what to feel about him in that moment. He had saved her, to which she was grateful. He consoled her and as a result, she was thankful. He insulted her belief and she was angered. Then he apologized for insulting it, she was once again grateful. It was confusing. And to make matters worse, he just upped and left.

She was extremely confused. Just who was the mysterious werewolf and what kind of hold did he have on her that it made her almost completely forget the events of the night.

She sighed. She wouldn't get anywhere by

pondering over it. She had school in the morning so she decided to divert her attention to it.

Morning came fast and she got dressed as fast as she could.

"Morning dad," she said as she kissed him on the cheek.

"Morning moonshine. How'd you sleep last night?"

She knew exactly what he was asking of. She tried her best to smile and nodded at him. "I'm fine dad," she replied honestly. It was at this point that she noticed the people in the room. Four pairs of green eyes and a silver white pair stared at her, excluding her father.

She saw her brothers and the elder who had conducted the ritual. Her eyes narrowed. Why was she here?

"Ivy," the woman spoke up before pausing as if to consider her words. "I would like to apologise for how the ritual turned out."

"Don't worry ma'am," Ivy tried her best to reply politely, "it wasn't your fault."

The woman smiled. "And neither was it yours, child. There was an unknown entity that may have possibly disrupted the ritual."

Ivy paused to look at everyone's eyes which were narrowed at her. She felt her mouth speak instinctively. "What entity?"

"Usually," the elder began before stopping as if to once again to consider her words. Ivy was dumbfounded. When they had met yesterday, the woman seemed to have an answer to everything and now it was as though she was as blind as them to the spiritual arts.

"When the ritual is being conducted, it is optimum that all available werewolves be within a certain barrier."

Ivy nodded, trying to see where the elder was

heading towards.

"In your case, a werewolf breached the barrier."

It couldn't be…

"That werewolf may have been the cause of all this. It would seem that the moon was confused and was unable to make a choice between him and Max."

Ivy sighed but something seemed off. "Wait! That doesn't still explain the fact that Max rejected me!" her voice was loud and she saw the elder sigh.

"That is what I don't understand," the elder confessed, "It may have been possible that Max was never your mate in the first place."

That was a low blow.

Ivy arched her eyebrow. "Did you come here to add insult to injury?" she asked fiercely and clearly upset.

"No," came the elder's almost surprised but curt reply, "it just so happens to be something worth considering because it felt like your heart was being tugged between both wolves."

"But I thought only wolves with a high spiritual power can cause such an influx," she heard her father say and her eyes snapped towards the elder again, the expression on her face asking her to shed more light on the scenario.

"Yes, however, this has not been recorded in over four-hundred years and I honestly doubt that Max on his own could produce that much power. That in itself leaves one thing. The wolf in question might be an omega, most likely a former alpha or something like that."

Silence prevailed in the room and Ivy's thoughts flickered. That would explain why he smelt different. Omegas were outcasts from their pack but that did not mean in any way that they were bastards. Some were Alphas that left their pack, some were kicked out while some chose not to just involve in pack relations. Could that be what he was? Someone who didn't like pack activities. That would explain his attitude concerning the mate selection ritual.

"Ivy," she heard her father call out to her. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah," she said as she shook her head from her thoughts. Her father wasn't buying that but he let it be, for now at least.

"Elder," she heard him say to the woman, "if this is an Omega, then it may mean trouble." Ivy felt the atmosphere intensify as the eyes of her brothers, the elder, and her father seemed to intensify with killing intent.

This wasn't good.

...

Ivy found herself at the top of their apartment sitting on the ledge that separated a normal person, perhaps even a werewolf, from life and certain doom. She sighed. Things were escalating pretty fast and she wasn't sure of what was going to happen. They were going to try and reach out to the omega and negotiate with him. They were already thinking him to be the bad guy.

Her eyes narrowed as she spotted something or rather someone. A person that was overtly familiar. She wouldn't be able to forget that physique anywhere no matter what.

Interesting choice change.
