12. Mates
Lara touched her lips.
"You fainted." Stefani said. "Noah got you checked by the company physician. I was really worried for you, y'know. Good thing it wasn't something serious."
Lara blinked. She fainted. Is that why she doesn't remember anything after what happened inside the elevator?
Also it appears she's inside Noah's office. He must have brought her there after she fainted. He couldn't see him anywhere though. Where is he?
"Sir Noah... Where is he?"
"Oh, he left for a bit." Stefani said. "He'll be back for you, don't worry. By the way, you didn't finish your lunch right? Are you hungry? Want me to order something for you?"
Pondering a little. Lara agreed by nodding.
"Great! I think a light meal should be fine. Let me order something for you then." Stefani smiled and went out to make a call.
Lara looked at the jacket on her lap. It was Noah's jacket. Without thinking, she lifted the fabric to her nose and sniffed his scent.
It smelled good... smelled exactly like him that his scent had a unique smell to it. She doesn't think it came from a commercial brand of perfume. She really wanted to take another whiff but then stopped herself when she was about to do it. What if someone suddenly comes in? They'd think she was a pervert sniffing the big boss' jacket.
With a slightly heavy heart, Lara lowered the jacket on her lap and sighed.
She unconsciously touched her lips again. He kissed her... Noah James Smith kissed her in the elevator. She couldn't forget the way he pressed his lips on her. It felt like he was branding her.
"But why..." She murmured. She doesn't understand his reason. He only said, 'You're mine...' and his words played on repeat inside her head like a broken record. What did he mean by that?
You're mine...
Suddenly, she remembered the girl's words inside her dream.
I-Is Noah perhaps-...
Her train of thought was disrupted when Stefani came back inside with a phone on one ear.
"Do you have allergies?" She asked.
Lara shook her head, "No."
"Oh good!" Stefani smiled and winked at her, getting back to her phone call. Lara was then left alone again.
Hours went by and still no sign of him. She already finished eating what Stefani ordered for her and went back to work while waiting for him to come out of the elevator but it was already time for her to go home. Noah didn't come back. She wanted to talk about what happened in the elevator but he wasn't in the company according to Stefani. She said he left with his car, not saying where he went.
Is he, perhaps... avoiding her?
"Here."
Stefani slid a piece of paper on her desk. She looked like she was about to leave.
"What's this?" she asked.
"His address." Lara was about to open her mouth but Stefani cut her to it. "Go to him if you want to talk."
Lara read the address on the paper. It was an address to a penthouse at Imperial Towers.
"Thank you."
"Here." Stefani nodded and gave her, her calling card. Forgetting the thank you rule they had between them just for the day. "If something comes up. Give me a ring. I'll be with you in 5 minutes."
"This-"
"It's not too much." Stefani stopped her.
She knew Lara was about to decline her help considering she already gave Noah's private home address to her.
"I'm actually serving you up into the lion- no, wolf's den. Having my number with you will make me feel reassured that you're safe. And that you'll call me when you need my help."
"Thank you."
Lara was touched. Stefani was like the coolest person on the planet in her eyes right now.
"Please don't forget the 'Thank You' rule will be effective again between us tomorrow." Stefani said, making Lara giggle. Right... The thank you rule. "Today is an exception since a lot has happened and I don't know what happened between you and Noah before you fainted. I only know one thing though. You wanted to speak with him about something important. That's I'm giving you the opportunity to do it. Don't worry, I'll be your back-up when you need me."
Giving her an encouraging pat on the back, Stefani turned around and left. "I hope you guys talk it out."
Lara stood there, holding a piece of paper and a calling card in her hand while watching Stefani disappear inside the closing elevator.
"She really didn't think twice into giving me this." she sighed, looking at the address in her hand. What if she was a total stalker? Shouldn't Stefani be careful with giving away her boss' private address?
Even so, Stefani gave her this important piece of information because she thought she needed it. And indeed, Lara needed it. She already planned to show up early tomorrow morning to confront him about what happened. But now, given the opportunity, she wanted to talk to him now. Because she doesn't like dragging things out. And she wanted to know if what she's thinking is right. If Noah was actually the one the girl in her dreams said was her mate.
