Novel's Demon

I've died. However, it wasn't the end. Somehow... I woke up once again though not in the world I knew but in a world of a fantasy novel I've read in my first life. Unfortunately, I wasn't reborn as a Main Character, a supporting character or even an Extra... No! I reincarnated as a weak and useless Demon. However, this was not even the worst part... 'Why the fuck am I stuck in the Academy!?'

My Group

"Hello, my name is Sophia, I am ranked 545th, nice to meet you!"

Approaching the group I was assigned to explore the dungeon with, a girl with a friendly smile introduced herself.

Aside from her, there were two other students who were a part of my group.

"My name is Alex, ranked 123rd."

A young man with long brown hair and glasses introduced himself next. He seemed to be easy going and a relaxed dude.

Lastly, a tall and confident guy with a serious expression stepped forward, his massive build exuding strength.

"I'm Jake, ranked 17th."

The eyes of the group members shifted toward Jake. I could tell that they were impressed and perhaps a bit intimidated by his high rank.

'He probably died in the event...'

However, I didn't care about his rank, I was more bothered by the fact that he was supposed to die during this event. If he survives, yet another unknown variable will appear in this world.

'Not like I can kill him or anything.'

Scratching my chin with a small smile, I realized that for some reason it was quiet. Lifting my eyes I only then realized that everyone was waiting for me to introduce myself.

"Hello, my name is Note, I'm ranked 3655th"

As soon as I said my name and rank, the atmosphere in the group became tense.

The eyes that were previously filled with curiosity and interest now turned skeptical and unimpressed.

"You are quite low-ranked."

Jake stated bluntly, snorting, while the others remained silent. They exchanged glances, seemingly questioning my capabilities.

That was normal though. I wouldn't want somebody in my group who is ranked so low in a dangerous situation as well.

Completely fair in my opinion.

"..."

For a moment, all of us stood there in silence, however, Jake didn't seem bothered by the awkwardness.

"Aside from that garbage rank, I hope you can at least carry your own weight or else..."

I felt a small amount of bloodthirst emanating from Jake's words. Being a few ranks lower than him, I felt immense pressure descend upon me.

It felt as if an invisible hand was pushing me down, forcing me to bow down.

'Bastard...'

Internally, I cursed, gritting my teeth and trying to steady my slightly trembling legs.

This bastard was clearly trying to assert his dominance by trampling over me.

I could understand being ridiculed for being low-ranked, but there was no need for Jake to belittle me and threaten me.

I... wanted to twist his neck.

'What is with me and twisting people's necks these days?'

Fortunately for Jake, I had no strength to do it as of yet.

Lucky bastard.

"Heh, not giving up?"

Jake snickered seeing my attempts to stand strong.

However, he decided to stop there, realizing that other group members were starting to get uncomfortable.

"Anyways, I am a melee fighter specialized in close combat, my main weapon is the spear."

With those words, Jake's smug expression turned into a serious one. He also turned away from me, focusing on other members of the group.

At least he was now treating me like air and not abusing me.

"I am a fire mage."

Sophia was the next to reveal her specialization, trying to break the tension in the group. Although she was against how Jake handled things, she couldn't do anything to change the fact that I was low-ranked.

She knew that this was wrong, however, deep inside she also didn't like the fact that someone this week was her in the team.

"I'm a ranger, I use a longbow."

Alex chimed in, calmly stating his profession without any hint of emotions in his voice.

'Two backline attackers and two frontline fighters...'

I muttered to myself internally, analyzing our group composition. At least Alaric kept his word of placing us in balanced teams.

This also meant that we would have a slightly higher advantage when Demons would attack us while we explore the labyrinth.

"Remember, the only one responsible for your own survival is yourself!"

I heard Alaric's voice in the distance as he addressed the entire club before disappearing from sight in one of the labyrinth's corridors.

Glancing around, I noticed that many other groups also began to march forward, including the group that Luna and James were a part of.

That fucking demon contractor was still trying to speak with Luna, which made me clench my fists in anger.

'If one of the protagonists were to die here...'

I shuddered at the thought.

The entire story would most likely change. There would no longer be such a thing as an advantage of knowing the future as it would change drastically.

Hell knows, maybe Demons would even win over the humans, plunging the world into chaos and despair.

Well, I am a Demon too, which means that I would survive, however, there is one issue...

I don't like the Demon race at all.

They want to destroy, devour, fight, live in constant chaos and darkness. It doesn't align with my own values and beliefs.

Maybe because in my previous life I was a human, but I really hate seeing innocent humans suffer and the world being thrown into chaos.

If possible, I want to be the only Demon left alive.

That is my ultimate goal.

And I will do whatever it takes to achieve it even if it means killing the Demon God, the progenitor of all Demons with my own two hands.
