BEEP

[Wake up Dean, it is time for your morning routine]

Said a feminine monotone voice.

"Hmmmm....just five more minutes"

[As your personal virtual assistant, Kit, I must advise you to stick with your daily schedule]

"Ugh...fine"

Covered in sweat, a young man opened his eyes and stare at the ceiling for a brief moment trying to remember what his dream was about. Though judging from the sweat, he had an inkling of an idea what the dream or more correctly, the nightmare, was about.

The young man named Dean finally got out of his bed and headed to the bathroom located across from his bedroom in his apartment for the usual morning routine.

His bedroom consisting of a queen-size bed, a desk for studying, holographic window showing a beach with day/night cycle, and a spacious closet for his wardrobe. Including the silky smooth carpet floor, his bedroom screams luxury, befitting of the 2nd ranked student of the 4th years (seniors).

The rest of the apartment consists of a kitchen including dining table for four people, living room, several large holographic windows showcasing Dean's hometown back on Earth with day/night cycle, and with three other rooms connected to it.

The three rooms are the bedroom, bathroom with a small laundry room attached, and training room that is built for Dean's telekinesis ability in addition to strength and stamina exercises though Dean rarely uses it in preference to using the gym area used by most students.

Moments later, Dean stepped out of the bathroom feeling refreshed with only a towel covering the important parts. His body showcase a pale lean muscular build, his pale face is as handsome as your local coffee shop barista, and his short reddish-brown hair complements his piercing blue eyes.

Heading back to his bedroom, Dean's almost emotionless but cooling deep voice asked his virtual assistant.

"Kit, what time is it?"

[It is 6:30 am]

"Date?"

[It is Sunday, May 16th, 2552]

"So 2 more weeks until graduation", Dean mumbled as he was reminded of a conversation he had 5 months ago around New Years.

'Dean, this is your final year at the academy, you really have to decide whether you'll work in the military or the civilian sector, these old bones can't take care of an unemployed youngster'

'Fine, Granny Judy, I'll work in the military sector.'

'Military? Is that something you really want to do?'

"I don't know", replied Dean though he said that out loud in present time. Recently Dean has been remembering his past conversations with his adoptive parent or more accurately former adoptive parent, Judy. Her passing was quite recent and a sudden blow to Dean though the only solace for him is that she passed away peacefully in her sleep at the ripe age of 85.

Arriving in his bedroom, he changed into his gym attire and put on his pair of thick glasses. Even though Dean could have surgery to perfect his vision, he preferred his glasses as they were one of the last mementos of his parents. In addition the glasses were designed to remain on his face under extreme stress unless Dean or another person took them off, and the lenses were outfitted with self-cleaning using hard-light to wipe foreign residues. The auto cleaning is powered by the lens itself by smelting a tiny piece of an energy crystal into the lens.

After changing into his current outfit, Dean put on his smartwatch where Kit's main 'brain' is located.

"Status"

A holographic window appeared from his watch showcasing Dean's personal information

The stats are graded from F- to S+. F is the average stat for regular human adults and E- being the average stat for a fully trained soldier without any Esper abilities. Esper power level is graded by strength of users' ability, their capacity, and/or how long.

For example, how heavy a telekinesis can lift an object and how many or how long can a shapeshifter maintain their form. To increase their power level, Espers generally need to push their limits much like weight lifting or jogging. S-grade power level are walking natural disasters capable of annihilating armies, sadly out of the millions of Espers spread throughout the stars, less than 10 are in existence mostly in the inner sector as modern arsenals are capable of annihilating armies with ease.

The other stats are more difficult to increase but with the academies' facilities, Esper can have superhuman level of strength, agility, endurance, and even stamina. Though C-grade is the acceptable minimum for military operations for the 4 mentioned stats aside from stamina being slightly higher.

Anyway...

"Hmm....not much has changed since I got back yesterday."

It was to be expected as Dean was on Earth for the past week for Granny Judy's funeral at their hometown and didn't bother training everyday as he usually does. The proceedings went by smoothly with most of the town's population of 2,500 attending it since Judy was a sweet old lady with a mysteriously large sum of money which she mostly used to better the town and its inhabitants.

After looking at his status, Dean grabbed his sword which looks like any double-edged sword from medieval Europe with the cross guard being T-shaped.

Though the materials used for the hilt is a mixture of leather used from medium-grade alien monsters and medium-grade metals such as silver

The blade itself is carbon steel with the very edge on each side generating blue colored hard-light powered by the small energy crystal located at the middle of the crossguard. The crystal itself acts as the switch for the hard-light simply by pressing on it to activate or deactivate.

He exited out of his door into a spacious hallway.

The door itself opening automatically as it registered Dean walking out.

However said hallway wasn't decorated by the usual blue, grey, and yellow color scheme of the United Human Alliance but the hallway instead looked like a tomato festival happened here.

Dean quietly check his surroundings to make sen-

"ARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH"

"RAWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

Bone chilling screams were heard from one end of the hallway.

Though Dean quickly walked backwards into his room and had the door magnetically locked.
