Chapter 9: The Relentless-5

The normal and quiet life of the people was disturbed when out of nowhere, a huge monster appeared. They were shocked to see a giant wreaking havoc on the area. People were on their phones taking photos and videos of the incident which caused the evidence of the monster to quickly spread on social media.

"A random monster appeared out of nowhere here in Caleville. It went flying from Arcland and now it is causing damage here!", a person recorded a video from her phone and uploaded it on her social media account.

"Oh, no it is The Devil!", a person overreacted.

"I think it is a skinwalker!", another person overreacted. The person who posted the video was rescued by the local police along with the others. They were encouraged to evacuate the area while they waited for people who were much more capable. In a matter of minutes, everyone was safely evacuated along with their pets.

The uproar caught the attention of news reporters and the National Defense Forces. The organization deployed its best troops to the location immediately. The titan was absorbing the natural energy in a huge area and destroying it. The defense forces arrived in fighter jets and combat land vehicles in an endeavor to stop the monster. The police officers received a call from their superiors about the incident happening across multiple provinces and cities. The officers were positioned outside the police department. They all took a seat and they turned the television on to watch the battle live. 

"The Relentless 5, the Nudgeland's fiercest and mightiest defense squad are currently fighting an unknown monster who is terrorizing a village in the suburbs of Caleville. The monster is currently unidentified and its origin is still unknown, but our national leaders are working to put a halt to its savage behavior.", the news field reporter broadcasted.

"I can't believe this is reaching national news now.", a police officer murmured under his breath.

"I can't believe that the monster that is reaching national news coverage is not the monster we fought.", a police officer mentioned.

"This is concerning…", another police officer commented.

"Do we tell them about Jess?", August glanced at the chief as they were all watching the news.

"I don't know, not my problem anymore.", the chief replied.

"Everything is just not my problem anymore until it becomes everyone's problem.", an unknown police officer chimed in. He grabbed a seat and sat next to the chief.

"But it is for real this time, I'm retiring. I don't want anything to do with all these issues both in and outside our department, Mike.", the chief stayed his eyes on the television.

"Well, at least pretend to care for now. By the way, where is Martin?", Mike took a sip of his beer.

"He's back to his house, he said he missed his daughter.", Jackson answered. While the two were talking, August remained focused on the television. 

"His apartment is not too far from here, right? Do you want to visit him, and maybe check on him?", Mike suggested.

"I don't know, maybe later.", Jackson answered.

"Come on.", Mike bumped his elbow to him.

"Okay, fine, if you insist.", the chief said. The two got up from their seats while Axel still had all his attention on the television.

"How is it there right now, Carina?", the news anchor asked.

"As of this moment, there is still no progress and possible resolution. The Relentless 5 is still on the front lines doing most of the work while the others are shooting and attacking, hoping to weaken the monster.", the field reporter responded. The camera panned to Relentless-3 as she was fighting the monster in the air. She focused enraged energy on her wrists, she glided downwards from the top of a fighter jet and locked eyes with the monster as it was devouring natural energy. A giant cloud of purple energy appeared in the sky, energy flowed through it similar to the energy on her wrists.

"Meteoric Sword Strike!", she opened her arms and then bumped her two fists together. Instantly, a huge sword from the sky made up of purple energy crashed into the titan piercing through its body. The titan flinched but it continued to gather natural energy from the surroundings. A fighter jet caught her before she fell to the ground. 

"Thank you.", she said. The police officers watching were cheering when the giant sword hit the titan.

"Let's go!", a police officer cheered.

"Take that monster down!", another police officer celebrated.

"Shut up both of you, this is not sports!", a police officer gave them a reality check.

"The attack might have hit it, but the monster is still going…", August concerningly observed.

"Let's keep watching.", a police officer said. The police officers returned their attention to the television. The television showed the field reporter narrating the events.

"Right now, one of the Relentless 5 landed an attack on the monster, but it does not show any signs of stopping.", the field reporter announced. As she was talking to the camera, the monster let out a deafening roar that shattered the sword into pieces. The shards from the giant sword scattered around the area which damaged some vehicles and injured some people. 

"Oh my god!", the field reporter exclaimed as she was hit by a shard. 

"Are you okay?! Is the camera okay?", the news anchor shouted from the studio.

"The camera is fine, the one we use is the signature ability of our cameraman.", the field reporter said, as she was talking the cameraman waved and made an okay gesture to the camera.

"Thank god we don't have to pay for that.", the news anchor said. The people in the studio gave him a puzzled look. He coughed and then decided to change the topic.

"Anyway, what is the update there, Carina?", he asked.

"As you can see the attack from the monster caused a hindrance, but we recovered quickly and it appears that we are attacking again.", the field reporter pointed at the war vehicles starting to move again.
