Chapter 25 : New Family

Curious about the texture of its feathers, Kai reaches out to try to touch the baby bird. However, perhaps because Kai is still not a familiar presence to it, the baby bird becomes uncomfortable and tries to hide in a corner.

Doesn't want to force it, Kai decided to just observe it, in hope it can get used to his presence first.

After his hand was not trying to touch it anymore the baby bird continued eating its food while sometimes looking at him.

After watching for a while, he hears the sound of the door being opened from downstairs.

'It seems mother was already home from the nursing home'. Kai thought while went downstairs to check it out.

Seeing his mother who was already back from the nursing home in the door of the house.

Kai went to his mother and hugged her.

"Welcome home mom."

"Thank you Kai, how was your first day at school?"

Separated from his mother, Kai takes the grocery that his mother bought on the way home and follows his mother to the kitchen of the house.

"It was quite fun."

Helping his mother by washing the vegetable, Kai explained to his mother that already started cooking dinner about his first time experience learning at the academy.

"and I also made a new friend."

"Who is it?"

"Her name was Kanna. We are sitting together and there's another guy from the aburame clan."

"His name was Toka but I didn't have a chance to talk to him because he doesn't seem to like to talk much."

"Even for Kanna who really likes talking with people it is still the same and moreover she already tried to talk with him but his only answer was always short."

"Maybe he has not gotten used to you yet."

Kai proceeded to tell his mother about all the new classmates that were in his class and how some kids were fighting over where they wanted to sit.

Kai explained some of his first school experience until dinner was ready.

Eating with only his mother Kai remembered that he forgot to tell his mother about the baby bird that he found during the morning run.

After finishing their meal Kai decided to tell his mother about it.

"And mother I forgot to tell you but I found a baby bird in the forest, it was alone and crying so I brought it back home."

"Oh… how pitiful, where it is now."

"It was in my room, come mother, I will show it to you."

Taking his mother to his room, Kai shows his mother the baby bird that he found during his run.

"Look mother, it was in the box, but unfortunately it was not used to human presence yet."

After saying that, Kai sees his mother move closer to the box and take the baby bird without any resistance whatsoever.

Seeing his mother playing with the baby bird, Kai doesn't know what to say about it, decided to just move closer to his mother and it seems to make the baby bird feel his presence and start staring at him.

"Mother, why can you touch it without making it uncomfortable."

"Because animals, especially when they are babies, are more sensitive to the intention of something."

"Here try it, but make sure to not be nervous and have good intentions but don't try to force It."

Preparing himself, Kai try to calm his mind and start getting his hand closer to the baby bird.

The baby bird seems to keep staring at his hand, after feeling his hand was close enough Kai stops his advance and waits for the baby bird to take the initiative to let him touch it.

After a few seconds staring at his hand the baby bird seems to give cue that he can touch it.

Petting its feathers while the bird was still in his mother's hand for a while Kai asked his mother if he could hold it.

"It seems that the baby bird was quite used to your presence."

"You can try it, but make sure to be gentle holding it."

Trying to take the baby bird from his mother's hand and feeling that the baby bird was not refusing his advance, Kai finally succeeded in holding it in his hand.

Seeing how cute the baby bird was, Kai really wanted to adopt it.

"Mother, can I adopt it?"
