Chapter 48 - Serum Completion

Time flew by as weeks turned into a few months since Maru's death and Mira moving in. During which Kagami ran out to do a few missions by himself as did Mira. For their combat power has reached a level the Hokage and even Taiyō felt it was fine to assign them separate missions. Unless of course it was a harder mission, but for bandit suppression, investigations or merchant escorting. Then it was fine to complete it by themselves.

Hence, sitting by the window, Kagami looked in the direction of the gate waiting for his best friend to return. While he knew she had both Kōsetsu and the Mangekyō Sharingan and could handle herself. It didn't stop him from worrying about her safely as there are no guarantees.

"Father, if you're that worried every time she goes on a mission. Why don't you just go with her." Asura asked lazily from the bed.

"It's not that I didn't offer, but was rejected. According to her, she is a big girl and could take care of herself with such easy missions." Kagami replied. "Besides, I can feel that the serum will be done soon. Then it will be another trump card so to speak."

"You've been saying that for months now." Asura retorted.

Kagami just shrugged as it was true as he just had a bit more fine tuning left until it was completed. A few proportions needed to be adjusted and he will have completed it. Then it would be time to begin working on cloning both himself and Mira to gain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

'The Virtual Reality currently has to take a backseat at the moment as these two projects are more important.' Kagami thought to himself.

While he was making good progress in upgrading the machines he needed to create the Virtual Reality device. He felt that finishing the Serum and allowing himself and Mira to gain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is more important. These things will improve their survival in the future while Virtual Reality, while important, isn't as useful.

'Compared to the benefits of the Serum and Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. I will need to program various training missions into it, implement chakra natures into it, and various other things to make it useful. All before it can truly function as a training device.' Kagami thought.

Then as he watched the sun begin heading towards the horizon, Kagami had a brief bout of inspiration. He didn't know how or why, but it got him excited as he picked up Asura and jumped out his window. His destination was naturally his laboratory to put his idea into action and if he was right. Then the Serum would be done.

An hour later, Mira returned and saw the scribbles that she supposed to be words. However, she was used to Kagami's hasty writing and understood. So the snack she brought for him on the way back naturally became hers.

"Well you snooze you lose." Mira said as she ate the snacks she brought.

In the late evening, laughter was heard inside Kagami's Laboratory. Various emotions could be heard from this laughter, a bit of bitterness and joy could be felt. For the cause was a preteen boy who was holding a sealed vial.

"I have done it. After a few years, I have finally completed it." Kagami's voice rang out after his laughter.

From the data he is looking at, he has finally completed the Uzumaki/Senju Hybrid Serum. The Serum that will improve his and Mira physique by granting them various traits from these two clans. The regeneration, endurance, lifeforce and so on, they will gain it.

"Is this thing really that magical that makes you like this?" Asura asked.

While Asura knew his father viewed this thing as important, he just didn't understand why. In his view, his father was already incredibly powerful and that without calling him out. Not to mention he mentioned something about unlocking Mangekyō Sharingan which could easily sweep most shinobi by itself.

"The world is a big place, so it never hurts to have a few extra trump cards." Kagami answered.

"If you say so, Father. Now that this is completed, what are you going to do with it?" Asura asked.

"Mira's birthday isn't far away. So I will give her the vial then. This should count as her birthday gift from me." Kagami replied. "Now, it would probably be bad if this got out, so time to remove the data from the laboratory. Lately there have been many who are attempting to break in here."

"Then what will happen if you have to remake this serum in the future?" Asura asked not to understand his father's actions.

"Don't worry, all the data is up here." Kagami tapped his head lightly.

His Science Notepad had recorded everything and if he ever needed it, he could easily just pull it up. Much like how he is able to pull up any trail recipe if he ever needed it. So he isn't worried about not being able to reproduce it if he ever needed to.

In the Root Underground hideout, a meeting was taking place at this time. Well, a meeting was putting it nicely as an old man glared heavily at the extremely pale man in front of him. His cold eyes looked into the yellow snake like eyes.

"Have you managed to solve the issue?" Danzo asked coldly.

Licking his lips as if enjoying this moment, Orochimaru smiled. "Not completely, but I have discovered a few ways to counter the side effects. I need more experiment materials to continue testing after all."

Naturally the experiment materials are people who he can run the tests on. For the last of them had completely died away either from the serum or his inhumane experiment. Which Danzo didn't know nor really cared about as he wanted results.

"Tell me how and I will get you more." Danzo said not sounding like he was begging.

"Implant some Hashirama Cells. His regeneration ability seems to be able to counter most of the side effects. It is just tricky implanting it as it still tries to override the body as if trying to resurrect Hashirama himself." Orochimaru replied offhandedly.

While Danzo could feel that Orochimaru hadn't stated everything, he didn't care. He only cared if he could live long enough to achieve his dream of becoming Hokage. Which is why he didn't care about the number of victims of Orochimaru for his twisted experiments.

"Hurry up, or Hiruzen might get on your trail." Danzo threatens. "The experiment materials will be sent by the end of the week."

Orochimaru eerie laughter rang out as he walked away as if agreeing.
