Today I became a genin of the leaf.

I Hyuga Tetsuo the blind Hyuga became a genin of the leaf.

I the most painfully ironic person to ever live became a genin of the leaf.

A blind Hyuga.

I have to admit that sentence sounded crazy to even me. A blind Hyuga being a Shinobi? It sounded preposterous and everyone else seemed to agree.

The fact that no matter how many other things I do will always be known as the blind Hyuga, the shame of my clan, will always be a sore spot for me.

That is why today is important maybe even the most important day of my life, because against all odds today I managed graduated the ninja academy.

The fact that I even got into the academy was nothing short of a miracle. I managed to get in because a week before my year would have started the academy it was discovered that I have the very rare ability to sense chakra which I ended up being able to use to navigate and be aware of the things around me, not exactly sight but the fact that I could tell where people and some things were was barely enough for me to get into the academy.

While my sensing might have sounded like a gift from the sage himself it's not perfect, it can only cover a five metre range and I can only sense the outside half of the range.

Whilst that may sound like a glaring flaw It's not too bad because amazingly even though I'm blind I can activate the byakugan a phenomenon that even the clan head hiashi himself couldn't explain.

But the reason why it worked didn't matter half as much as the fact that it did work, and it became the reason that I could prove my clan, the whispers of other ninja and deep down maybe even myself wrong.

'So i'm gonna be the next person to take the ninjutsu test since we're doing it in alphabetical order and Neji just went in,' I think to my myself as I sense Neji's chakra leave the room.

'I feel pretty confident about passing the test after all there are only three ninjutsu on the test and they are the only ones we Hyuga are allowed to learn so I had more than enough time to learn them all.'

I decide to activate my byakugan in preparation for my test since Neji is the top student in the academy currently and he most likely won't take long.

"AHH! Tetsuo-san I know that you need to do that to see but can we get some warning like jeez," One of my more annoying classmates Emiko Ikeda complained.

"Ikeda-san announcing to the entire class that I am about to activate my byakugan would mean that more people would end up paying attention to me ruining the entire point of me announcing it," I respond holding back the small desire to let her have it.

Before Emiko could respond I felt my cousin Neji's chakra enter the room and the voice of my sensei called out from the door that Neji just went through.

"Hyuga Tetsuo please come for your examination."

'So it's finally my turn to take the test and show that I am good enough to become a ninja of Konoha.

I get up and start walking towards the examination room where my future would be decided.

"Tetsuo are you ready? You will do the substitution jutsu followed by the transformation jutsu and then you will finish with the clone jutsu. You must get them all right to pass, you may begin when you are ready," Kota Sensei my classes teacher told me.

I nod and begin going through the sequence of hand signs needed for the substitution jutsu.

'Tiger - Boar - Ox - Dog - Snake.'

"Substitution jutsu," I exclaim as I finish molding and substitute with a chair three meters away from myself.

"That was a perfect execution of the substitution jutsu Tetsuo, you can proceed onto the transformation now," Kota Sensei said to me.

I once again start going through hand signs but this time a different sequence.

'Dog - Boar - Ram'

"Transformation Jutsu," I state as I finish my hand signs.

The smoke clears and reveals a version of Kota Sensei with brown hair and paler skin.

The original colour of hair and skin that Tetsuo has.

"A near perfect execution of the transformation jutsu the skin and hair are off but only due to the fact that you are unable to see the colour of things even with your byakugan active. Now all that is left is the clone jutsu."

Finally I start going through the sequence of hand signs for the clone jutsu.

'Tiger - Boar - Ox - Dog.'

"Clone jutsu!"

Two near identical clones of me appear the only difference being that neither of them have a shadow.

"Perfect marks all the way throughout Tetsuo. Congratulations you are now a Shinobi of Konoha."

After everything I had been through all the whispers, all the struggles and all the doubters nothing could wipe the grin off my knowing that I had overcome all of those things and became a genin of Konoha.

"Here is your Shinobi headband when you wear it you are showing that you are a Shinobi of Konoha so all of your actions reflect back onto Konoha so when you wear it always show that you Hyuga Tetsuo is worthy of being a Shinobi of Konoha," Kota Sensei says whilst holding out a headband for me.

I take the head band from him and contemplate where I should tie it.

'While most people tie it around there fore heads some people tie it around their necks or waist and even thighs. Where should I tie mine.

'That seems like a good enough place,' I think to myself after I tie it.

I then look to Kota Sensei and thank him before leaving the room.

Since we weren't doing anything except the graduation exam today we had the choice to go home as soon as we were finished the last test which is exactly what I decided to do but before I left though I decided to speak to one of my friends Hitoshi Kurosaki.

"Hey Hitoshi, guess what I passed," I say to my friend with a grin.

"Nice one Tetsuo congrats, but to be honest it was expected you are top eight in the class after all," Hitoshi congratulated me.

"I guess but it's still exciting though after all we've been in the academy for so long and it's all been building up to this," I say still smiling.

"That's true I guess, I'm still a bit nervous for my test though," Hitoshi said.

"Trust me it's not too bad, but anyways I'm going to have to leave now so good luck," I tell him.

"Alright bye then Tetsuo," he says before I leave the room.

As I was walking through the streets I once again heard the whispers that usually followed me wherever I went.

"The blind Hyuga boy passed!" One lady whispered.

"How can they let a blind person become a ninja," another said.

"How is he supposed to help the village."

"My taxes go to the academy so that I can be safe not so that they can let blind people become ninja for pity."

I just tune it out as I have before and just focus on getting back home.

Within a few minutes I'm at the gate of the Hyuga clan compound but before I can enter I'm stopped by one of the guards.

"Tetsuo the elders have told me to inform you that since you are now a genin once you join a genin squad you will be permitted to leave the compound for all team trainings and meet ups," The guard told me.

"Thank you for informing me Genji San," I say before walking forward my smile barely contained.

'Ever since I've joined the academy I was only allowed to leave the clan compound for academy lessons because the elders didn't want me to shame them where other clans could see but now that I'm a genin I'll be allowed a little more freedom. I guess that being a Shinobi comes with more benefits than I had originally thought.'

I reach the door of my house which was quieter than usual.

"Mother, Father are either of you in?" I call out but I don't receive a response.

'They're probably just meeting up with some other member of the clan,' I think to myself as walk through to the kitchen.

I grab myself a sandwich from the fridge before taking a seat and deactivating my byakugan. While I eat my sandwich start to contemplate what I should do with my one week break.

'Now that I've graduated the academy I have a whole week with nothing to do. I could rest for the whole break after all this past year at the academy has been harder than all the other ones, or maybe I could train since I will be a ninja and nothings wrong with being slightly ahead of the curve.'

How does Tetsuo spend his one week break?

[] Relax he's just finished the academy no need to do anything.

[] Train the academy three: they are some of the fundamentals after all.

[] Condition his body: after all being a ninja will probably take a lot more strength, Stamina and speed it would be good to be ahead on that so he can spend less time on conditioning his body later.

[] Train the gentle fist: it is his clans main fighting style for a reason and it will be the main form of combat that he will using for his ninja career.
