While submerged in a barrel of cold water, Naruto meditated. He immersed himself in awareness, scrutinizing his entire body closely. He could feel the flow of blood or lymph, the beating of his heart, and the functioning of each organ.
The longer he stayed in the cold water, the more he understood the concept of warmth within the body. Initially, he thought that the body, by performing its functions, heats up and thus maintains warmth, but delving into knowledge on the subject, he better understood it. In fact, he was completely mistaken; the body's work only generates small amounts of heat. There is something called the thermoregulatory center in the body, located in the hypothalamus. It is sometimes referred to as the body's thermostat. The cells within it receive information from various receptors located in the skin and various other organs.
The thermoregulatory center typically has a "set" temperature that should prevail within the body, fluctuating around approximately 37 degrees Celsius. However, this temperature varies for each individual, sometimes being higher or lower.
This raises the question, why is maintaining a constant temperature so important? Well, because it enables the proper functioning of all processes in the body. The necessity of maintaining the appropriate body temperature arises from substances involved in metabolic processes, namely enzymes responsible for various reactions, being proteins. If the body temperature were to become too high, meaning it exceeded more than 40 degrees Celsius, it could lead to their degeneration.
The thermoregulatory center remains in direct contact with other centers located within the nervous system, such as the vascular center or the center stimulating the sympathetic nervous system. Communication between all these centers allows for influence on processes during which heat is generated, such as basal metabolism, skeletal muscle activity, digestion, and absorption of food in the gastrointestinal tract.
With this knowledge, Naruto began to detect the body's natural mechanisms responsible for temperature regulation, whether due to cooling or overheating. There were several of them, including: constriction and dilation of blood vessels located in the skin, stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, stimulation of the thyroid gland, stimulation of sweat glands, stimulation and inhibition of muscle cells.
These mechanisms occur naturally when needed, but Naruto was now able to influence them and "activate" them. However, it was not control of body temperature that he aimed to achieve. On the fourth day of training, he only understood the mechanisms that affect temperature. He had to learn to manipulate body temperature.
Over the next five days, Naruto tried to better understand what "heat" inside the body was. It wasn't about the processes it had to go through to be generated, but what it actually was. What literally is heat? How could he directly influence it? Heat in the body wasn't an organ that he could encompass with his awareness; it didn't have a physical body made up of cells. It was somewhat like Chakra; it didn't have a physical shape, but he could manipulate it because it was energy.
Heat, in scientific terms, is also partly energy. Heat is part of the internal energy of the body, which spontaneously transfers from a warmer body to a cooler one to equalize their temperature.
On the ninth day of training, Naruto was able to reduce the transfer of heat to the cold water. The cold water didn't directly take Naruto's heat; instead, heat escaped from Naruto's body into the water, so he simply tried to block it. It was incredibly difficult, but after another two days, he was able to do it more naturally. After another three days, he could withstand cold water for almost ten minutes, and his body was still as warm as before entering the icy water.
Naruto could now meditate in cold water for over half an hour, as approved by Shizune, who had seen his progress.
A month after starting training, Naruto was slowly able to manipulate his temperature. With his awareness, he could manipulate internal heat, decreasing or increasing its temperature.
Now, even in even colder water, Naruto could maintain his warmth for over an hour.
Heat was energy, just like Chakra, and Naruto understood it and could now control it. It had more potential than Naruto had thought. Heat wasn't just necessary for life and the proper functioning of the body; it could be used for something else. Perhaps it didn't have as many possibilities as Chakra itself, which could be used to create Shinobi techniques, but Naruto now speculated that he could use heat to heal his wounds or ignite fires by igniting certain cells in the body.
Perhaps the term "heat" wasn't appropriate, but Naruto hadn't come up with a better name. Heat could change its temperature; sometimes it was around 37 degrees Celsius, and sometimes it could drop close to zero.
Naruto was currently in the Research and Development Department, twirling a pen between his fingers, pondering a certain issue.
At one point, Kabuto approached him, but before he could speak, Naruto beat him to it "Kabuto-san, do you think Chakra could work on the principle of heat? Heat is energy; it transfers from warmer to colder bodies. Could Chakra, without the Chakra System, exit the body in the same way as heat?"
Kabuto paused, stunned. He didn't think Naruto possessed sensory perception, let alone think about something like this.
"Hmm... Chakra is energy, but they operate on different principles; heat belongs to the 'internal energy of the body.' Besides heat itself, there are many other individual Energies in the body necessary for life and functioning. I'm not sure if Chakra could mimic heat and exit the body; theoretically, yes, but it would be impossible to create techniques and manipulate it," he explained his understanding of it.
"I tried before to make my chakra go beyond my body, but it wasn't possible, it's like it wasn't listening to me. Since it moves through the body on an energetic level, why can't it leave the body? What's blocking it? Since chakra is energy, it shouldn't be blocked in the body," Naruto said.
"Well, that's what Tenketsu points in our bodies and the Chakra System are for, to handle that. But I understand your situation... Hmm, what if chakra, after passing through the Chakra Circulatory System and Tenketsu points, changes its properties, maybe I named it wrong..." Kabuto pondered, scratching his chin. "Let's suppose that chakra is neutral in the body, and by forcing it to enter the Chakra Circulatory System and pass through the Tenketsu points, it's given the command to 'exit'..." he tried to explain logically. "Leave the body, its container, etc. The Chakra System and Tenketsu points give commands, and chakra, from its neutral state, accepts the command to exit and manipulate."
"Have you researched something like this...?" Naruto asked, bewildered, but Kabuto shook his head with a chuckle.
"No, it's just my thought, a simple theory," he shrugged, then suggested, "If you want, I can help you explore this topic. I'm curious if you can bypass your limitations."
"I understand, I'd be grateful for your help," Naruto smiled gratefully at him.
"Maybe it's about frequency?" Naruto pondered deeply. "Chakra might change its frequency by passing through the Chakra Circulatory System and Tenketsu points. With a frequency in the body, let's call it 'neutral frequency,' it can't stay outside the body, beyond its container. So, it has to pass through the Chakra System and Tenketsu points, which change its frequency to enable manipulation, or use in Shinobi techniques."
Naruto went to search for all available documents related to chakra and Physical and Spiritual Energy frequencies.
And as expected, every person has different frequencies in their Energies and Chakra. However, they are close to each other; Physical and Spiritual Energy are, of course, the closest, as they don't differ much among all people. Chakra, on the other hand, has different properties in each person, so its frequency varies greatly. Additionally, with development, its frequency also changes, so it can't be clearly defined.
...
After getting permission, Naruto and Kabuto were in the Third Sector of the Research and Science Department. They could use high-quality frequency measuring equipment for their experiments.
"Can you handle this?" Kabuto asked.
"Yes, I've observed once when they measured chakra frequency in a person who had some chakra disorders," Naruto explained, turning on the device.
"Oh, I see, I remember when the Leader of the Third Sector invited you," he recalled.
"It wasn't anything interesting, well, let's start," Naruto instructed, and Kabuto nodded.
The frequency measuring device wasn't large compared to other high-quality technologies produced in the Third Sector.
Kabuto placed his hand on the designated spot, gathering his chakra inside it, and Naruto collected the data.
The frequency meter showed several frequencies, but Naruto only looked at one related to chakra.
"Frequency at 420 hertz. Now, let the chakra pass through the Chakra Circulatory System and Tenketsu points," he ordered, and Kabuto did so. He didn't manipulate the chakra to create a Shinobi technique; he simply released some chakra outside the body, through the Tenketsu points on his hand.
"Frequency at 432 hertz..." Naruto murmured. "So, chakra really changes its frequency after passing through the Chakra Circulatory System and Tenketsu points. I'd bet it's the Tenketsu points that change its frequency because if they don't pass through, and after moving through the Chakra System, chakra returns to its place, its frequency doesn't change. Well, let's check it out..."
And as Naruto suspected, it was the Tenketsu points that changed the frequency of chakra. Another frequency allows chakra to probably leave the body and manipulate it. It was truly strange.
"Well, that's probably not all, just one of several things that allow chakra to go beyond the body," Kabuto commented.
"Yes, I doubt changing frequency alone would affect something like that, but it's a first step to success," Naruto said.
"We usually manipulate chakra unconsciously, automatically, so few familiarize themselves with its process and how it actually works. I'll try to understand it better through my own actions, so if I learn anything, I'll inform you right away."
"Alright, thanks, Kabuto-san."
As Kabuto left, Naruto remained alone in the room. Despite his young age, Kabuto was a great genius with vast knowledge. While he didn't do something huge for Naruto, he provided him with many valuable insights and information. His observations were truly accurate and very helpful.
"Wait... isn't this simple...?" Naruto asked himself, realizing something.
The body is a container for chakra; beyond the container, it doesn't have a specific place to store and disperses into the atmosphere. Chakra by nature prefers places where there's a lot of it, so it doesn't want to leave the body, where it would disperse.
The Chakra Circulatory System and Tenketsu points force it to leave, manipulating it into Shinobi techniques. Without them, chakra would store in the body all the time. The same goes for Physical and Spiritual Energy; they can't be dispersed and released outside the body in a normal way.
"It's not just about frequency; I need to find a way for chakra to return to me even outside the body, something like recycling, use it and utilize it again," Naruto pondered. "But well, that's an even more difficult task..."
"Maybe I should start by memorizing frequencies; ordinary people can't learn this, but my brain should be able to distinguish how many hertz the appropriate frequency has."
Naruto contemplated his next goals, which he planned to accomplish soon. The ability to distinguish how many hertz a given frequency has would later allow him to learn how to change frequencies, if possible. Without learning this, he wouldn't be able to change frequencies because he wouldn't know what they sound like.
He hadn't planned to learn this, but if it's necessary for better control over chakra, he'd gladly do it. Naruto had long mastered everything Kabuto had given him related to using chakra inside his body. Most of it was useless and not suitable for use as a technique, but he treated it as exercises in chakra control. It greatly helped him develop control over chakra and allowed him to experiment with chakra on a more advanced level.
An example could be the technique for refreshing the mind. He used chakra as caffeine, replicating its effects and refreshing his mind; it worked even better than coffee. Without Kabuto's guidance in using chakra inside the body, he wouldn't have gained such control over chakra and wouldn't be able to do something so advanced.
