School was pretty simple and it didn't take long for other students to realize they should leave me alone. Dambtal the boy who sat next to me in Practical magic theory 101 had blue hair and orange skin. Just like all the schools in Azar you have to be human to attend. He tried being nice to me offering help but after a few days he gave up on the idea.
The only other person to try was Tarshic she turned out to be from the royal family Zarta. One of the side branch family. She is the youngest of five children two boys and two girls. Two weeks after I started she came over to me in the lunchroom and asked, "Lizeli can you help me with my magic control?" I turn towards her with an annoyed look on my face and tell her the truth.
"Tarshic you don't need my help. You have perfect control and your understanding of magic is second to me. What you lack is in how you are compare yourself to your siblings. You are so caught up on how powerful they are that instead of dealing with what you can do you try and push yourself so far. So it literally blows up in your face."
She looks at me with her eyes starting to water. Then she turns and run off across the lunchroom and out the cafeteria doors. I stab a meatball that is on my plate and as I put it in my mouth as I think, "Some people just can't handle the truth." She still hasn't stopped blowing her magic up and does everything possible to hide from me.
There were a few quests I went on. Since I was in school I could only go on day quests, but one quest brought me to a nearby town. It was a simple delivery so I didn't bother bringing my team. It's a story that could very well hold meaning in my future to come.
A little over a year after I started school I went to the Guildhall in the early morning to pass in my final scores. I get free school cause of the Guildhall but they also have the right to decide not to put me on next years school list if my grades are not good enough. After all I'm representing the Guild at the University.
I have just passed the sealed envelope with my final scores to the woman behind the desk when I hear one of the guild members say, "Why would anyone call that an adventure. Transporting medicine and Water crystals to Zochnat Town." After hearing this I walk over to the quest board and see the quest.
Help needed
Escort to Zochnat town
Delivering water crystals/medicine
Reward 10 bronze
The town is about five hours west of Azar Town to the west. The reward is only 10 bronze. I step in front of the adventure and rip the paper off the board saying, "It may not be the most adventurous quest but it is about saving lives. The town of Zochnat is a very poor town. Without the medicines to treat simple ailments the villagers will die. Also from what I've heard the area has bad water. So without water crystals they can't cleanse the water and grow food or have clean drinking water."
I walk over to the quest desk and put the paper on the table. After I receive the location to meet the client I head out of the guild building. The building I am suppose to meet the client at is a warehouse "product supply depot number 12" in the western district. All the building in this are are stone warehouses. The road is made of stone and above that is wooden planks making the place look like a wharf.
It's because often when it rains or in the spring the streets flood cause of the rain coming off the mountains. So this area built a second road about 1 foot above the first and all the warehouses also have second floors a foot above the first. When I get to the building I take a look. It's made of the same orange stone as most the buildings I've seen so far in this world. The roof is made out of red colored wooden shingles.
There are two entrances one looks like a normal door made of the same orange wood as the road. The other is big enough to drive a wagon into like in a barn. The doors stand wide open. I walk over to the small door and enter. The door opens up into the warehouse. crates are everywhere. One wall has a line of display item that they have in storage. I walk over to a women who has a parchment on a clay slab in her hand. She is looking at a stack of crates 10 feet tall.
When I walk up to her I say, "I'm looking for Widalfer. Do you know where he is?" She doesn't even stop what she is doing as she points to her left. I say, "Thank you," and head down the line of crates. After about 80 feet or a little over 24 meters. The stack ends and I see a elderly gentleman in orange pants and a yellow top leaning against the stack of crates looking up at the ceiling.
He has lite blue hair and yellow skin. I look at him and say, "Are you Widalfer the Guild sent me." He turns to me smiles and says, "Thank you, I wasn't sure how long it would take someone to take on my quest." He turns away from me and says, "Follow me! We can get going at once." I smile and follow him. We head to the back of the warehouse passing by row after row of crates that stand about ten feet high. The warehouse is so big it take five minutes to get to the back row.
We head out the back door and before us stands a wagon loaded and ready. The Raybacks the cart is hooked to are drinking water from buckets. He walks up and takes the leads turning the Raybacks to the side. Once he has straightened he wagon he hops on and I get on after him. We head out towards road leading to the edge of town and into the hills.
It takes about 6 hours to get to the town over the rolling hills. Most of the way is what looks like farmland with Lizeli flowers along the sides of the roads. When we come to the small town I see a tall wall around it. Along the edge is Lizeli flowers row after row for a good 15 feet. Something is definitely wrong. The Lizeli flowers keep the beasts away why would any place need a wall as well as not one by 15 feet of the flowers.
We enter into the gate and all the buildings are at least 15 feet from the walls. The buildings are small and made of orange stone with grass roofs. People come out and start helping empty the wagon. They all keep looking at me sideways with fear in their eyes.
Widalfer comes over to me smiles and says, "It would be wise to get out of here soon. I've paid the guild the money already." He holds out a scroll of parchment and says, "This is proof you delivered me safely to my village. If you hurry you can get back to town before night falls." I take the scroll. Then look at him saying, "What happens when night falls?"
He looks at me sighs saying, "We don't understand it but every night a horde of beasts come from the south. They don't stop till morning." I look at him and say, "First I've heard of any beasts coming near the Lizeli flowers." He sighs again looks at me and says, "I know it's weird they have even started throwing rocks to destroy the flowers and come even closer. We live in fear of the day they will get through."
I look towards the south and say, "I'll stay till dark and help." He looks shocked and says, "You can't do that. You could die and you will be trapped here till morning. We can't afford a monster extermination" I look over at the kids playing in the grass near one of the houses and say, "I'm never trapped."
I walk away from him and find a place near one of the walls to practice nature magic. Not long after I start training then a little girl with green hair and yellow skin comes over and starts watching me. She smiles at me and after awhile says, "What you doing?" I try to ignore her as the vine in front of me is growing. "My name is Tatsa. what's yours?" I still ignore Tatsa as she starts playing with her toes and she says, "I can do magic as well. Want me to show you?"
I lower my arms to my sides and turn to her saying, "Don't you have something else to do. Like bother someone else?" Tatsa just keeps looking at the ground and says, "I'm an orphan. No one wants me but I can use earth magic. Wanna see?" Looking at her I say, "Fine I'll watch but if I do will you leave me alone?"
She gives me a huge smile and says, "Yup!" I watch as she raises her hands and a rabbit made of dirt rises out of the ground. As I watch it looks around twitches it's ears and hops around me in a circle. I look to the girl as she stands holding her hands out in front of her. Her eyes never leaving the rabbit. After a few minutes I say, "That's actually very impressive. Not only does it take a lot of magic to make a dirt rabbit but you need a lot of control to be able to make it move so fast and realistic. Not many can do that. Also even less can keep control when the dirt leaves the ground."
She smiles and sits down on the ground saying, "You think so? No one wants me around so I made myself some friends I can make bugs and a deer as well, but I can't control more then one at a time yet." I ask, "How old are you?" She smiles and says, "I'm 12 years old." She has amazing talent so I spend the rest of the day training Tatsa.
As night falls all the women and children vanish into the houses as the men climb to the top of the wall. The heavy wooden doors are bolted shut. I tell Tatsa to go inside and she grabs my clothes as I turn to leave saying, "Don't go you are gonna die." I turn back to her put my hand on her head and say, "Don't you worry. Tonight you don't have to worry about what goes bump in the night. Cause I'm the creature to fear in the night."
I remove her hands from my clothes and walk over to the wall. I climb the ladder and look down. I can already see the forest crawling with beasts. As I watch wolves come out of the woods carrying rocks the size of a human head. They throw them with easy. As I watch they smash into the Lizeli flowers making trails of dirt a foot deep in the soil. The villagers let loss arrows trying to push the beasts back.
Licinraw jump around the edge of the woods looking for away through the flowers. Licinraw look like giant rabbits that are orange and silver. They have long tails like a fox. Noises of other beasts can be heard in the night. "This makes no sense. Licinraw are a gentle beast and beasts avoid the flowers." I jump off the wall and the villagers yell at me, "What the hell are you doing. Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
I run out past the beasts and they ignore me. "This isn't normal they should be attacking me." I watch for a few minutes as they continue attacking the village completely ignoring me. After a few minutes I attack a wolf by attacking it from behind I stab it through the heart. It falls and I watch. Normally if you attack a pack member all the rest attack, but they are ignoring me. I examine the body and see a collar round its neck. When I remove the collar it disintegrates in my hand.
I then kill a Licinraw and find it also has a collar. This time instead of removing the collar I store the beast in my Void bag. Then I get busy killing the beasts from behind. I store a good 100 bodies in my Void bag. Killing them is really easy since they don't even look my way no matter what I do. All they care about is attacking the village. Halfway through the night I'm finish and wave goodbye as I vanish into the night.
Every two weeks I've been getting monster destroy quests from that village. Tatsa is now 16 years old and I've promised to pick her up to take the entrance exams for Azar Magic Academy.
