Someone Who Wouldn't Cause Her Death

Alpha Cowell summoned the shifters that have gone to the neighbourhood pack to question them about the assassin since he already suspected that Autumn pack might have something to do with it, but why would they make such an attack?

"They hide their scent and they were trained assassins. None of them dared to shift." Rae delivered as they all bowed to their King who was sitting on a couch in his chamber, Beta Craig standing beside him.

"How many were they?" Alpha Cowell asked with outrage. He just couldn't believe an assault would happen when they went to cultivate peace. It was unruly.

"About thirty of them," Rae conveyed and Alpha Cowell hit his fist against the couch, furiously.

Beta Craig inquired, "Describe their dressing, fight skills and how they talked."

"None of them said a word apart from their groans. Their skills were unmatched by ours, making them flee. I noticed all the ones left didn't even breathe and I suspect they killed themselves so we wouldn't have anyone to question." Rae explained.

"How about the one who wanted to kill Aurora?" Alpha Cowell implored, "He was supposed to be alive."

Aurora took her turn to speak, "I injected the wolfsbane into his skull, he had no chance to live," she disclosed.

"I also think he did attack Aurora on purpose, knowing he would be killed too," Sage added.

They went mute but Alpha Cowell broke the silence, "That means?" He asked even though he knew the answer but Sage replied.

"They had made a vow to their leader or whosoever had sent them so their identity won't be confirmed."

Alpha Cowell placed his head on the couch and closed his eyes, "They have been sent and Alpha Huston would have been their leader, something is telling they are rogues working with him."

"Yes." They all agreed.

"What do we do, Alpha?" Sage asked as everyone watched keenly at their Alpha who seemed to be in deep thought.

After some minutes, Alpha Cowell spoke up, "I should have declared a war but right now, I can't go to war, the healer state I need to rest and I know it wouldn't be fair to leave you guys all alone." He conveyed.

His statement took a toll on them. They felt pity for him. Right from the time he lost his mate, he hasn't been himself. He gets sick most of the time and it always makes them worried. Although it has been a long time since he was down, they hoped he would get his strength back. He was a strong king and it wasn't time for him to become weak.

"Alpha Huston made it clear that he would get to war," Rae said, "What should we do when he's determined."

"We'll send a letter to him that he should send back the boy so he can come to pick another mate from our pack." He announced to their amazement.

"That will be a little difficult." Beta Craig uttered. He was also shocked at his best friend's verdict.

"It's the only option we have now to stop the war and it won't be as difficult as I already thought about it several times. Announce to the pack members, issuing any female that hasn't found her mate and is interested in mating with the boy. Tell them to prepare to meet with him as soon as he agrees to choose a mate from our pack." King Cowell divulged, receiving applause from them.

"A brilliant idea, Cowell. All we should pray for is the boy accepting to choose someone else." Beta Craig said and yes filled the King's chamber.

Sage took hold of Aurora's hand as they made their way to the spring. "We could have shifted and run down there presuming you are in a good condition." He whispered, loud enough for her to hear.

Aurora chuckled. "Then when I get to the spring, I would shift back, right?"

"Right!" He conveyed but when he realized what she meant, he started to laugh, joining her. "I won't be there when you change."

"I know, I know. But, which clothes do I shift into?" She implied and shook her head at his understanding.

"We would use our canines to carry them with us."

"Oh! Right, I see why you are dumb." She mocked while he laughed heartily. She was acting all cute for him to resist and he didn't plan to either.

Their walk to the spring took about twenty minutes since they strolled at an idle pace. When they arrived, Sage took her up to the mountain where he had smelled her the other night and they sat quietly on a flat rock, listening to the waves as they chatted.

"Do you want to know the first time we met?" Sage asked, recollecting how saddened he had felt.

"It was that night in the forest because it was that night I met you. If you had met me before then I would know, you've got a strong scent." Aurora pouted but Sage shook his head.

"I was a far distance from you so you wouldn't have smelled me."

"That's agreeable but when was that if it wasn't the night we met?"

"The night on your birthday." He revealed.

"Really?!" She asked, astonished.

"Yes, I was there listening to your birthday rites and wishes. I still don't understand why you said it and why you have spoken it out."

Aurora curled a smile on her brim and stood up from the rock to stand at the edge of the mountain, "That has always been my wish right from when I shifted and I said them out because there was no point in saying it to myself when I knew it wasn't something so special." She uttered bracing him.

"Sure, it wasn't special for you to say something like that which I don't understand why." Sage let out. He needed to know more about it.

Aurora whirled back to him,  "Does that mean, I am wrong not to want my mate? Nevertheless, you just told me you love me, does that mean you went back to words?"

"No… no… I mean_" Sage stammered, unable to explain what he meant. He stood up to her and pulled her by her shoulder to himself. "I love you and it's sincere." He divulged as their eyes stared deep into each other.

Looking deep into his eyes, Aurora knew she had found her love. She knew she had found someone who she could share her thoughts with. Someone who would mate with her and wouldn't cause her death. Surprisingly to him, she wrapped her hands over his neck and pressed her lips to his.

Promptly, Sage pulled her closer, making his other hand clutch her neck, he returned the kiss and took her aggressively.
