Melissa was now utterly exhausted, and Maxwell stepped in to help her out. He gently bathed her, and then carried her to the bedroom. Despite her cheeks burning in embarrassment, Melissa remained silent and allowed him to help her, as she was too tired to even move a finger. After drying her hair, Maxwell retrieved some clothes from her closet for her to change into. He then took his own clothes and went to the bathroom to change, so as not to make her feel any more uncomfortable. By the time he returned, Melissa had already changed. He walked to the bed and sat next to her
"Melissa, I understand that you don't love me and don't want me in your life. But I want to be in your life, I want to be with you. I'm not sure if this is love, but all I know is that I want to be in your life. I know you need time to think, so I'm not asking for you to love me or anything. All I'm asking is for you to let me be your husband.
Melissa blinked at Maxwell, her heart pounding as she looked into his eyes. Swallowing hard, she felt a mix of emotions. On one hand, she was sure that Maxwell was different from Zick and she wanted to give him a chance. On the other hand, the fear of trusting men again was still present in her heart, and she knew that she needed time to heal and love herself before she could be ready for a relationship. She didn't want to break Maxwell's heart by turning him down after all he had done for her, but she knew that she had to be honest with him.
Melissa calmly explained, "I understand what you are saying, and I can assure you that I know you are nothing like Zick. I'm certain you would never hurt me. However, I'm not ready to be in a relationship yet. I need some time to think things through, understand myself better, and learn to love myself. All I'm asking for is to be friends first, and then we can move on to being lovers, and eventually husband and wife and raise our kids together. But for all that to happen, I need some time to get to know you and trust you completely.
Maxwell's eyes twinkled with joy as he listened to Melissa's words. He was overjoyed that she was willing to give him a chance to prove himself to her without comparing him to Zick. He was determined to work hard to win her heart and make her fall deeply in love with him. Melissa's words made it clear that she needed some time to get to know him and trust him completely before they could move forward in their relationship. He was more than happy to give her the time and space she needed to do that." Thank you, Mellisa, I really appreciate you giving me a chance to prove myself, I will never let you down. " Maxwell said.
Mellisa flashed a small smile. "Thank you for understanding my point of view. I'm hungry, I need to eat now." Maxwell rose from the bed and offered his hand to Mellisa.
"Come on, let's go. Breakfast must be ready by now."
When they reached the dining area, they found everyone present for breakfast, including their guest Tina who had a smirk on her lips. "Good morning, guys," Melissa greeted them with a smile.
"Good morning everyone, except for uninvited guests," Maxwell said as he pulled a chair for Mellisa.
"Thanks," Mellisa said as she sat down, and Maxwell sat opposite her.
"Mellisa, you are glowing today," Michelle remarked with a smirk.
"I thought it was only me who noticed. We know that pregnant women glow, but today you are too much," Shina said. "Did something happen last night? I mean, how was your wedding night?" Shina asked with a meaningful smirk.
Mellisa's cheeks turned a deep shade of red, like that of a ripe tomato. She wished the ground would open up and swallow her whole. She knew this was bound to happen; how could she forget that they were still alive? Taking a deep breath, she changed the topic.
"I forgot to tell you all something very important," Mellisa said. "I'm going to have triplets."
The three girls reacted with shock and disbelief.
"What?!" they exclaimed in unison.
Mellisa smiled, relieved that the topic of her wedding night had been forgotten. She was thankful for the news she had given them, as it had diverted their attention away from other questions.
"The party is canceled," Linda said, her face beaming with joy. "We're going shopping. We need to get some clothes for the babies.
Shina frowned her lips and looked at Melissa, "Definitely we are going to do a lot of shopping. After our siblings are on their way, we must hire a room designer to make their room. Why didn't you tell us such big news before? Eat up now, we are going shopping!"
Michelle grumbled "Mellisa you could have told me at least! I'm their aunt and you didn't even bother to tell me."
Mellisa replied apologetically, "I'm sorry guys, but all of you were busy throughout the week. " She said "I didn't get a chance to tell you. And I'm sorry once again, but I'm not coming with you shopping. I'm tired and I have to start planning the wedding dress that I'm going to make."
Michelle declared, "Forget about all those things. Today is Saturday, so we are going out and that's final.
" Fine as you all wish. " Mellisa said, she gave up the idea of going against them, they were three, and there was no way she was going to win against them.
Tina was fuming with rage as she watched Shina and Linda fawning over Mellis after spending a month with her. She couldn't understand what was so special about Mellis that made everyone love her so much. "How do you all know that the children that she is carrying are your father's children?" Tina questioned, her voice full of incredulity.
Before anyone else could say anything, Mellisa spoke up coldly. "Who are you to doubt my character? " Mellisa asked glaring at Tina."Are you the woman who left her husband because he had no money or the woman who came back to her ex-husband because he is rich now or are you the woman who tried to drug someone else's husband because you wanted to trap him into giving you a child and use that child against him? For your information, I did not trick anyone to give me a baby. I'm not a cheater like you and I'm definitely not that cheap like you. A piece of advice from me before you judge other people: look at your background first. Keep one thing in mind: if you don't behave, I will chase you out of my husband's house. Mind your tongue if you want to stay here." With that, Mellisa left, leaving everyone present in shock. They couldn't believe that Mellisa could be so cold.
