My name is John Wilson. Pretty weird name, right? Well anyway it all started on a normal day. I got out of my bed, brushed my teeth, and got ready for school. I left my house and started walking to school at a leisurely pace. I looked at the sky hoping that things would change in my life. Both parents gone, no friends to speak of, and my school is constantly wrapped up in violence. I sighed and wondered how I even got to this point. We'll my mom died giving birth to me, while my dad was murdered in a robbery gone wrong. The killer said it was an accident, but I could see it in his eyes that he felt no pity or remorse for what he did. He was found guilty, but it honestly didn't make me feel better about it because my dad was still gone. My aunt decided to take me in with her and I'm grateful for that. However, she's always busy and I barely get to see her at all even though we live in the same house. I know that she cares about me and for me that was enough to get me through the day. Switching over to my school, it is a hot mess. Fights happening all the time, blatant disrespect for the teachers, and cheap locks that you could probably find at the dollar store. The reason I shut up about it is simple. I don't want to worry my aunt and it's the only school around where we live.
I take a deep breath and exhale.
Hoping
Praying
Believing
That there's something out there for me.
One day, I thought I had found it. It was a video game called Rewrite your Destiny.
It was an adventure game where you had to fight monsters, complete quests, and make tough decisions on where your character went in the game. Whether you were going to save a little girl or get showered with riches? These choices were commonplace and the consequences for picking one over the other was fascinating to me. I began to enjoy my day more and waited with eager anticipation sometimes to get home to play it.
If I was happy about playing it, then why am I sad?
Well it's because my game got destroyed because of a pipe burst in our house. All my data, my character, and my time spent on it is gone. Now it's like I'm back to square one and I'm wondering what I'm going to do with my life. As I was contemplating my life the strangest thing happened. The sky suddenly darkened, and I could feel the wind pick up. I looked around and was surprised to see no one else around. Not a single living thing in sight. At this point, I started running back home hoping to escape this awful weather. As I ran, the sky got darker and I could hear the pounds of thunder getting louder and louder. Strangely enough it wasn't raining. Finally, after what seemed like forever I made it home and reached for the door. Suddenly, lightning bolts started raining down from the sky. All I could see was a yellow light as it struck me down.
