Luckas calmed himself and looked around, there was only he and the two men in front of him in the house, so he started to tell the duo the story he invented.
-" I was part of a merchant caravan, but before we could arrive at our destination we were attacked by a group of bandits." Luckas started telling the story he planned he even used the information that he acquired from the first villager he met.
-" Oh, a merchant caravan? To where you guys were going?" The elder continued the inquiry, there was less suspicion in his eyes now.
-" We were headed to Strafhampton City." Luckas used the information he gathered before to complement his backstory.
-" How many guards were at your caravan? There was cultivator there?" The man beside the elder finally spoke.
Luckas was caught in surprise he didn't think those questions would pop up.
-" There were about 30 guards at our caravan." Luckas stopped a bit before he continued. "For cultivators, I'm not sure about the exact number but there were a few of them there."
The elder looked at Luckas and eyed his clothes. -" It was quite a big caravan, those bandits must be very strong."
-" Almost from the very start of the battle i was separated from the main group, so I don't know how did the battle end."
When Luckas finished telling his story the two men looked at each other, after a few seconds the village chief sighed and nodded.
-" Byrth will take you to a resting place, food will be delivered there soon, don't worry about paying anything, we wouldn't want to prey over the unfortunate." The elder stood up and started walking to the door. "Oh yeah, what's your name? I'm Jothyr, Byrth is my nephew he is the captain of the village guards."
-" I'm called Luckas, I thank Elder for your generosity" He introduced himself politely and bowed towards him.
Byrth took Luckas to an old wooden house, he didn't talk at all on the way there and while Luckas wanted to ask if he was a cultivator he was feeling too awkward to start small talk,
As soon as Luckas arrived at the guest house, he laid down in the bed and took a moment to digest everything, to him everything was too baffling from his death at the office to the transmigration in the middle of nowhere was too fast and he didn't have time to properly take it all.
As Luckas was lying on the bed a bunch of emotions came to him, he thought about his family and friends in his past world and he got emotional so he decided to try to get some sleep, as Luckas fought with his emotion, Jothyr the village chief and Byrth were talking.
-" You were too soft on him, some parts of his story were too vague." Byrth was standing next to the door while he talked to his uncle.
-" I don't think he's plotting something, while he did hide some things I feel isn't that he is trying to fool us, but can't really explain his circumstances."
-" Do you really think he is part of a merchant caravan?"
-" Maybe." The old man was pensive as he talked to Byrth.
-" His clothes are too exotic, I never saw anything clothes like that."
-" I think he is the son of some big shot merchant or things like that, the situation in the frontier isn't that good, I heard that some merchants are trying their luck with selling war supplies."
Byrth eyes suddenly flashed in understanding -" That could explain some of his vagueness, he may be afraid of getting kidnapped so he is trying to hide his family background."
-" Besides that, he is quite polite, in this age is rare for young people to be so educated." Jothyr looked at his nephew and sighed, Byrth was a promising youth, he was blessed with good physical strength and luck but never cared for studies or etiquette.
-" Still you need to keep an eye on him, while the chances of him being a bandit scout are low if he really a merchant son and feels indebted to the village he could reward us, maybe this will be your second lucky encounter." Jothyr said that and walked to his room..
Byrth just sighed and took his leave.
After a long nap, Luckas woke up refreshed, while he was still emotional about some matters of his past life he decided to not think about that right now, as for things like returning back to his original world he thought that it wasn't time to even put that in his mind, after all, he didn't even start to cultivate yet.
Now that he got a place to stay a huge weight was lifted from his shoulder, while he was anxious as he talked to Jothyr, there was a high chance of him believing his backstory, Luckas worked in cybersecurity for some time and he did have some experience in social engineering so he was at least a bit confident in gathering intel and using it.
Luckas decided to go out and explore the village a bit, he thought he could get more useful information but as he exited the house he meet Byrth who invited him to eat dinner at Jothyr house.
