Meeting HIM

Someone great once said, a new morning brings new beginnings. I always believed this to be true, though lately, my life is as dull as the newly released DC movies.

So being the spontaneous person I am, I decided to resume my studies cause we all know nothing drives away boredom like the laws of Physics, although fate, had something else in store for me, like the spring soiree hosted by the Blacks the most influential family amongst vampires.

I know what a drag, but what can you do when my dear aunt Lydia especially, invited me and my esteemed sister to the party of the season. So began the laborious efforts of mother dearest in turning me into Barbie 2.0 yet again. But as the wise ones say

'Turn me into Barbie once hats off to you, do it twice shame on me'.

''Come on mum this dress looks hideous on me you know green is not my colour.''

''You are right this looks rather drab on you, I will pick out another one.'' suggested mommy greatest as she inspected the cluster of dresses thoroughly for something that would compliment my skin tone.

''No need mother, on this fine evening, I shall dress by myself, as I have done ever since I grew up ''.

''You won't turn into the ugly duckling just to spite right?'' asked mum with a worried look on her face.

''Oh! how you wound me, mother, I would never mar my beauty just to spite you''.

Layla chuckled and pointed, ''So that's your bottom line? You won't spoil your beauty but would do almost anything to spite mum''.

''Layla don't sow discord''. I cautioned in faux indignation.

''Dress yourselves both of you or you are going to be late and Layla, come with me. I will give you earrings to match this dress. If we listened to your sister talk we will be here all evening.''.

Elated at my small success, I dressed in a black chiffon and lace dress that complimented my pale complexion, accessorized with ruby earrings and black pointy heels.

I examined myself in the mirror and declared myself ready for the evening.

''Layla are you ready yet?'' I called while waiting in the lounge for Layla as the time for departure neared.

I gasped as I set my eyes on my sister who looked breathtaking as she descended the stairs in her plum satin gown adorned with mum's favourite diamond necklace. Like our mother. We both had dark brown hair and pale complexion. Though unlike me Layla inherited our father's green eyes.

''I am telling you your sugarplum is going to swoon at the sight of you''.

''Flattery is not getting you anywhere, my little sister, mother has instructed me to not let you wander in the corners and corridors, she is quite expectant this time, at least, try to mingle with other people, or you would be forever labelled a wallflower''.

''I like flowers. They are beautiful, just as I am, but I will try, promise, now let's go or we will be late''.

The black mansion was just as vast and lush as I expected, but what shocked me were the attendants,

beautiful women dressed in flowy purple dresses and silver feathered masks. Who were not only serving people; they were also performing fire and ice magic to entertain the guests.

Just as we crossed the threshold, we were greeted by our host dear Aunt Lydia, sister to my paternal grandmother and wife of Levi Black, the third son of August Black; Patriarch of the Black household.

''Good evening aunt Lydia, hope we are not late?''

''No, my dear the party just started come on now have I told you both look lovely, Come on I will introduce you to Lucas, He just arrived and has yet to meet you two.''

''Who's Lucas?'' I asked Layla in a hushed tone.

Lydia's reply came just as hushed, ''He is the eldest grandson of August Black, just completed his studies, but he is an arrogant prick. I once saw him reduce a girl to tears over a confession, poor girl. He could have let her down gently but....when you meet please don't provoke him, remember we represent the WHITE family and everyone of importance is here today. Mum and Dad will arrive shortly, so do not cause a scene, no matter what happens.''

''Come on give me a little credit, when have I ever caused a scene?''. I replied defensively followed by Lydia's incredulous gaze.

While walking I spotted Chloe and Ashely, so I dashed towards them while making a lousy excuse to Aunt Lydia. Layla, however, looked at me like she was expecting this.

''Hello, my lovelies, did you miss me?''

"Hush,'' both Chloe and Ashely exclaimed while dragging me to the side.

"What the hell is wrong with you, both? Why are you acting like petty criminals?" I said in a hushed tone.

''Look there, right next to my brother, there's that guy that you were drooling after.''

As I looked over, where he was standing. I couldn't help but feel a sudden rush of adrenaline coursing through me, cause that has got to be the only reason that I marched towards him, despite hearing my friends calling from behind.

But just as I reached the most handsome guy I've set my eyes on, I suddenly regained my consciousness and sanity however little there may be and my courage started to evaporate, so I did the only thing I could do in this situation.

"Excuse me, do you know where the ladies room is? "

The three gentlemen looked at me like I was insane.

'I was.'

"No! Never mind, I will ask someone else."

My hasty escape was interrupted, by the embarrassed cough of Marcus Ashcroft, brother to Chloe Ashcroft.

"Elena, what are you doing?" asked Marcus.

"Asking for directions."

"Really?" questioned Marcus, with a condescending smirk on his face, that led me to believe he had seen through me.

'Well, two can play at this game'

"Really," I said with as much confidence, as I could muster.

"That's weird, you just came from that direction," he pointed out where my two best friends stood, acting aloof.

The earliest memory I have of Marcus Ashcroft is when I made him cry when we were children. He was there and I was bored, this phenomenon was constantly repeated. Until middle school, by that point, he was a teen in his prime, and I was a young lady busy with etiquette lessons. Which in current times, no one took, other than the hopeless bunch of the high society, with mothers like mine at their heels. It seems like karma has come to bite me.

"Well, I did not know that, but since I am here I shall introduce myself. I am Elena White, a friend of Marcus' sister Chloe, the one in yellow pretending to be a stranger and alongside her is Ashley Moore," I stated while pointing toward my two best friends.

"And you are?" I asked as I extended my hands towards my prospective boyfriend.

"Aaron Wright, It's nice to meet you, Miss White."

"It is, isn't it? And it's very nice to meet you too. And please, call me Elena, Miss White is my elder sister."

I continued, "You must know this already, but I have to say, you're the most handsome man I've ever met. So can I have your number....? You must think me shallow, right? I only saw you and asked for your number?" I added.

"So you're not shallow? Is that what you're trying to say?" asked Aaron.

"No, God no, I am shallow to my very core. It's one of my redeeming qualities, but that shouldn't deter me from getting what I want, right?"

As if shocked by my brazen attitude, he commented, "You're very forward for someone your age.''

"Of course, how else am I supposed to get ahead in life?"

Unsurprisingly, my response earned me a snort from Marcus and a chuckle from the unknown guy.

'Wait... Who's the third one?'

"And you are..?" I asked politely while extending my hand towards him.

"I am Darius Reed. It was a real pleasure listening to you talk. I don't think I have ever come across someone like you."

"Of course you haven't, I am one of a kind,'' I replied sweetly. "So your contact info?" I asked Aaron expectantly.

''I don't give my personal info to people, I've just met," replied Aaron apologetically.

"Oh, no worries. it takes a lot to deter me. Besides ensnaring a guy is never easy, but I shall persevere.''

That earned me an astonished expression from Aaron and a few snorty chuckles from his companions.

''I will be seeing you around, Aaron Wright. Now, I bid you farewell.'' I turned around to go back to my original position, with a wily smile on my face

As I reached my intended destination i.e. corner of the hall, where my dear friends had firmly planted their feet, I noticed a commotion in the centre of the hall, where I spotted my sister, and a group of young maidens, who were undoubtedly mateless. My theory was further verified by Chloe, who told me that the young maidens were surrounding Lucas Black, and his posse.

''You know, I have always believed that shamelessness was the key to attaining a happy, and prosperous life, but today I was astonished to discover my views are shared by my dear friends. I mean that has got to be the only reason you both did not accompany me in my endeavour and left me to the wolves literally."

To my surprise they apologized, ''Sorry, but today we found out, who the mystery hottie was and before we could tell you, you dashed off and we were too scared to accompany you, considering the situation.''Ashley explained.

''I've never seen you both act, so panicky. it's not like we were meeting Lord Voldemort.''

''You are saying that because you don't know, who that guy is or better yet, who you were standing next to.''Chloe chimed in.

''Enlighten me, then.''

''The hottie with my brother is Aaron Wright, he is a werewolf of the Lunar Pack, and the older guy Darius Reed is his alpha. They are said to be the strongest and deadliest werewolf shifters in the northern continent, and that's not all. you know that the rogue werewolf; we heard about some years ago. Aaron Wright was the one who executed him, even the World Council couldn't catch him, yet he did and it was said to be the most brutal execution ever seen. There was nothing left of him afterwards, it's better if you stay away from him, he is far too dangerous for you.''

''What's that supposed to mean? And if he is so dangerous, then why is Marcus with him?''

''Dad is thinking of allying with the Lunar Pack, rogue shifters are getting far too unpredictable, and right now allying with them will provide stability for our pack. ''Elena, listen to me okay. you don't have an ounce of offensive magic in you. You are a healer by nature, he is your complete opposite and besides your mother would never approve of him. She wants a Prince Charming for you, not a dark lord so please stay away from him", said Chloe.

''Well, too bad, I like him.''

''But you just met him,'' pointed Ashley.

''There is something about him that makes me want to get close. I can't describe it, he is on my radar now and I'm not letting him go, without trying.''
