Night Market

"After school, don't forget to go to Aunt Yu Na's house to pick up the cake ingredients. I've already paid for it, so if auntie asks about money, just say that I've transferred it."

The girl nodded as a sign of understanding. After saying goodbye, she left. Fortunately, the road she passed was not a big road but a small road into the a housing complex. So she is not bothered by the noise of vehicles that can be stressful before the lesson begins. The cold morning breeze that blows with the sun seems to be powerful enough to wake up the residents in this Gangneung city. The seaside city located in the eastern part of the Korean peninsula seems to live with the hustle and bustle of people who are busy with their respective activities.

Autumn is coming to an end and soon the streets will be filled with mounds of freezing snow and pine trees that line the long road to the hill town. The start of winter is usually not very favorable for the fishermen who make a fortune from the beach that stretched almost the entire length of the city. Fish seemed to move away from the frozen seawater and moved towards warmer ones.

While pedaling her bicycle, the girl was humming a little. She was singing a joyful song that was uplifting in the morning. Her white face looked bright with a wide smile on her red lips. Once in a while, she brushed her bangs. Just as she passed a large white house, her pedaling stopped. There was something she noticed. But for a few moments, no one came out of the door of the house. She then continued to ride her bicycle.

"Hye Seon, wait!"

She looked for the source of the voice. A girl of her age was chasing after her with an identical bike as hers.

Hye Seon smiled broadly at that friend, a girl with slanted eyes and dimples.

"Annyeong, So Jung!" greeted Hye Seon.

"I noticed you still like to see Woo Bin's house, do you..."

"Never mind, it's nothing, let's go!" So Jung is a little annoyed by Hye Seon's words. She had wanted to hear answers to questions about Hye Seon's attitude related to Won Bin. Twenty minutes later they were right in the school parking lot. There were still plenty of empty places to park bicycles.

The first hour was Hye Seon's favorite lesson, but not for So Jung. Teacher Han would give a long lecture on Korean history which was like bedtime stories grandparents read before their grandchildren go to sleep. If it's like this, usually the students who were attentive that really paid attention to the lesson.

"Why are you so enthusiastic? I always get sleepy every time I have this class," complained So Jung when she found Hye Seon busy taking a small note from Teacher Han's explanation.

"This lesson is so much fun. There's no way I could sleep."

So Jung groaned in annoyance. She still couldn't understand how Hye Seon could like a 'boring' history lesson.

Class time seemed to go really fast, then it was time for math and the first break finally came.

Instead of going to the cafeteria to eat, So Jung and Hye Seon were discussing their weekend plans.

"I don't like going to the night market. I prefer going to the cinemas."

"Come on So Jung! there are no good movies in the cinemas. Right, I'm not lying. My cousin said there were no movies worth watching." Hye Seon raised two fingers to reassure So Jung. So Jung's slanted eyes moved as if a liar paid attention to every quote that comes out of Hye Seon's mouth.

"Give me a reason that can make me really want to go there."

"What? reason?"

Hye Seon's face turned sour. She thought her friend was crazy to make it difficult for her just to go to the night market. After about five minutes of thinking, Hye Seon finally spontaneously offered So Jung a large cotton candy for free if she wanted to accompany her. Without much protest, So Jung finally agreed to Hye Seon's request. This girl was into cotton candies especially the white ones. They usually disappear when being gobbled in the mouth.
