Before she could even think, she accidentally blurted out the name in her mind, and she quickly took a step back as she pressed her lips together tightly.
She continued to stare at him, and her heartbeat seemed to get louder as she could hear it beating in her own ears.
Yes, that is him!
— Eight years ago
Xu Anyi peaked her head out from behind the corner of the wall, glancing at the man who sat on the couch across from her father.
She did not even know him, so why was he here. . . asking to marry her?!
Xu Anyi frowned, a look of distaste on her face as she muttered, "Another arrogant and stupid guy who only cares about looks."
She had met too many of these people who did not even know her yet wanted to be with her or have her because of her appearance and family background, and she despised every single one of them.
The man was speaking but she stood too far away to hear exactly what he was saying, but she did not care. She had already told his father what to do.
"He's quite handsome," Xia Yiwei whispered from behind her as she also peaked into the living room with admiration but also a hint of envy in her eyes.
Xu Anyi tilted her head to the side slightly to get a better look at the man's face, "He is. . ."
"Even more handsome than brother Yuzhe," Xia Yiwei added.
Hearing this, Xu Anyi whipped her head around and looked at Xia Yiwei, "So? I still like brother Yuzhe!"
Xia Yiwei chuckled and pushed Xu Anyi's head gently, clicking her tongue mockingly, "I don't know what to say about you!"
Xu Anyi lifted her chin up proudly as she turned back around and saw the man finish speaking. Then, she heard her father say, "Young master Si, as you know, something like love and marriage cannot be forced. I apologize, but my daughter. . ."
"I heard he is first in line to become the next Si heir," Xia Yiwei spoke again from behind.
Xu Anyi raised an eyebrow, "Si heir? Of that Si family?"
"Mhm," Xia Yiwei nodded, "Didn't he say he was Si Mu? I think he is the only son of the current president of the Si Organization, so he is basically set to become the Si heir."
The Si family was probably the most prestigious and respected family in the entire country and was even prominent in the entire world, as not only did they hold an incredible amount of wealth and business power across many industries, their power also stretched down the family line very far.
There were rumors that they descended from the royal bloodline, and the last Emperor of the country was one of their ancestors. Therefore, even now, although they were most notable in the business world, they were able to remain powerful and wealthy also because of their strong political power.
The Si heir was a title given to one person in each generation, the person who would inherit almost everything, most notably the largest and most powerful Si Organization. This was created to keep all of the Si family's possessions contained and under one control.
However, this created intense competition and struggle among the young men of every generation in the Si family, but it ensured that the heir and the President of the Si Organization was the most powerful and competent of the entire family.
They had to be smart, decisive, authoritative, charismatic, but also cunning and ruthless.
Xu Anyi looked over at the man again. Si Mu. . . If what Xia Yiwei said was true and he was really the Si heir, then he could get any woman he wanted. Why did he come and propose to her?
Well. . . Xu Anyi grinned. She was probably the most ideal upper class woman in the country as well, so there was nothing to be surprised about.
After her father finished speaking, the man's expression darkened slightly as he appeared quite upset. However, after a quick moment, he took a sip of the warm tea and his expression had returned to normal.
"I see. . . Well, thank you for your time, President Xu. I will get going then," he said as he set down the tea cup. As he stood up, his eyes traveled to the side slightly and he locked eyes with Xu Anyi for a second.
Xu Anyi's eyes widened as she quickly turned around, hiding behind the wall. She did not know why but her heartbeat began to beat uncontrollably fast.
When she turned back around to look, he had disappeared already.
"You can come out now," her father said with a grave tone.
Xu Anyi skipped out from behind the wall and ran over to sit down next to her father, hugging onto his arm sweetly as she gave him a large thumbs up, "Thank you, dad! You did a great job!"
Xu Peng looked at his daughter helplessly as he shook his head sweetly, patting her on the head, "I also hope that you can stay with your old father for a while longer. Don't marry off and leave me so quickly."
Xu Anyi rested her head against his shoulder and nodded.
Xu Peng sighed as he looked towards the direction where Si Mu had just left. . .
