Chapter 13: Alpha #1

The scene unfolding had everyone curious about who I was, daring to stand up to Michael Jones. No one challenged Michael Jones son of #3. Clara stepped closer and whispered, "Careful, you're drawing attention, James."

"James, let it go," Claire said, standing in front of me. Kyle looked on, surprised at Claire and Clara's courage, knowing Michaels reputation.

"Everyone clear out," Michael commanded. The onlookers stepped back, and Michaels men advanced, revealing their guns.

"Today will be a reminder to anyone who dares to insult my people or family," Michael declared. I stared at him, thinking, you're a nobody.

"You dare challenge me, boy?" As Michael swung a punch at me, I moved to the side, dodging it effortlessly.

Clara smiled. We'd taken self-defense classes together, and within days, I could take down a black belt. My speed and strength were unmatched. I wasn't just wealthy; my dad had the blood of the Alpha which i had inherited . We couldn't turn into wolves, but we had powers I was still discovering.

As Alpha #1, fear had long since ceased to grip me. Clara knew about my wealth, but to most, Alpha #1 was nothing more than a legend. And legends, well, they make for the best bedtime stories, don't they?

When Michael swung at me again, time seemed to slow down. I had all the time in the world to dodge. I was about to grab his arm and knock him out but stopped myself, not wanting to reveal my true identity.

As I dodged Michael's punch, he barked, "What are you waiting for? Grab him."Three of his men rushed towards me, but before they could reach me, Clara sprang into action. In the blink of an eye, she took them down with swift, precise movements. Claire and Kyle's jaws dropped as they watched her effortlessly defeat the three men, their expressions a mix of shock and admiration.

"So, we have a bunch of karate kids here," Michael sneered, his voice dripping with contempt. He drew his gun in one fluid motion, the cold metal glinting under the lights as he aimed it at Clara's head. "One more move, little girl, and I'll send you back to your karate classes in a body bag."

Michael men drew their guns, pointing them at us. We could dodge punches, but not bullets. Claire was frantic, and Kyle pleaded, "Please, I beg you, let us go."

"Too late," Michael sneered. "You've embarrassed me and my men enough. It's time to end this."

"Drop your weapons!" A policeman's voice cut through the tension. "We have this place surrounded. Drop your weapons!"Within seconds, SWAT teams were on the scene, red laser dots aimed at Michael and his men.

"Do you know who I am?" Michael shouted at the policeman, his voice echoing with fury.

An FBI agent stepped forward, taking the radio. "Sir, I'm sure we can resolve this situation calmly. Please drop your guns."

The FBI quickly cleared the crowd, leaving only Michael and his men, Clara, Claire, Kyle, and me. Clara glanced at me, a flicker of relief in her eyes, but the tension remained palpable, every second stretching into an eternity.

Michael looked at his men and nodded. They lowered their weapons before placing it on the ground.Michael sneered at me, "You better watch your back." The FBI rushed in, handcuffing him and his men. Claire and Kyle sighed with relief. Claire ran to me, throwing her arms around me. "You saved us."

"No, he didn't," Kyle retorted. "He got us in trouble. Do you realize what's going to happen? He'll be out in less than an hour and will destroy us all."

"Kyle, shut up. That's all you ever do: complain," Clara snapped, raising an eyebrow at Claire. Was Claire falling for me? Clara seemed annoyed. "Claire, don't you think you're overreacting?" she asked.

Claire walked over to Kyle, took his hand, and said, "Maybe we should take a break."

Clara pulled Claire aside, "What do you think you're doing?"

"Isn't it clear? I'm breaking up with Kyle. If he hadn't started this, we wouldn't be stuck here all day."

"You do realize that if you hadn't been so flirtatious towards James, Kyle wouldn't have reacted the way he did. What's gotten into you?"

Claire snapped back, "You're the little princess who gets everything thrown at her while I get the leftovers."

"What are you saying, Claire? You're not making sense. Do you even hear yourself? You got everything handed to you while I had to work twice as hard."

"This is between me and Kyle. I'm done with him. If you want him, take him. Besides, you get along with him better than I ever could."

"This isn't about Kyle or me, is it? It's about you wanting James. Why though? Is it because you saw we were getting closer and you're afraid you might miss out, or is it because he's the only guy who never showed interest in you? Is it about wanting what you can't have?"

"Please, get over yourself. It's not like you guys are dating, even though you're the only one acting like you are."

Kyle walked over to Claire. "Listen, I'm sorry. I know I overreacted. Can we please put all this behind us?"

"No, Kyle. Don't you get it? I don't love you. I'm not even mad at you when I say this. I just realized you're not the one I want to spend my life with."

Kyle took a deep breath. "Then who do you want to spend your life with?"

Gunshots rang out, instantly killing three cops. Everyone ducked for cover. I ran to Clara and Claire, pushing them behind a concrete wall. Looking over my shoulder, I saw a masked gunman aiming at Kyle. I pulled out my semi-automatic 9mm MAC-11, which fires nearly 1,300 rounds per minute, and shot him between the eyes. As he fell, three more men emerged from behind a counter with rifles, opening fire. I killed all three in under ten seconds as the FBI moved in.

Clara revealed her Glock-45, covering her sister and Kyle. "We need to get out of here. #3 won't stop until we're all dead." Claire and Kyle were speechless, shocked by our true, fearless nature.

We ran to the car. Clara wasn't dumb. She was starting to realize I wasn't just #1; I was Alpha #1. As we climbed into the car, #3's men were still shooting at us. Even though he and his men were taken away, he had an army that wouldn't stop at any cost.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Clara asked.

"Tell you what?" I handed Kyle a Glock-45.

"I don't even know how to use this thing," Kyle said.

"Well, it's a good thing this is an armored 335i. It's bulletproof. You guys can sit up. Just hold on to it, Kyle. I'll show you how to use it later."

"Who the hell are you?" Kyle asked.

"And who are you, Clara?" Claire added. "Who are you, and who do you work for?"

As they sat up, shaking off the adrenaline, Clara removed her glasses. "We lost them, just stick to the road."

“You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore until you decide to be happy.”
