Because you Care

Earlier...

"Let them in," a deep, voice sounded in the room. He was on a swivel chair, he turned it to face the large ceiling-to-floor window watching the scenery of birds and trees.

He turned the chair back in the direction of his desk. He stared blankly at the files on his desk and let out a deep breath that he didn't even know he was holding in.

He suddenly stood up and went out of his office. He caught sight of his receptionist working diligently, typing something into the computer.

She noticed that he was there, and she gulped involuntarily, she dreaded the thought of looking at him and strongly wished that his brother, Xander was here. Even though he was loud and extremely handsome, it was way better than being alone in the same room with this breathing statue at least that'll make him occupied, she did as if she didn't notice his presence but it wasn't working, she kept on blinking involuntary, forcing herself to focus on her work.

"Leave," he said coldly in a dismissive tone. He would be a fool not to notice how her body stiffened and her behavior when he came out. She immediately stood up with her head lowered and scurried toward the elevator.

When she was gone, he approached her desk and picked up a file on her desk, his eyes scanned through it and his disposition changed and a bitter smile formed on his rosy lips. He kept it back on her desk and moved back staring at the elevator.

He took gentle but firm and bold strides toward the elevator, pushing the button and it opened, he entered and went down to the floor directly under the previous floor.

The floor that he landed on looked less busy than the rest, he liked quiet places, he walked straight to the balcony and looked at the bright blue sky, and put his hands on the silver handrail clenching and unclenching his fists, taking deep breaths of the wild wind.

After a while, he stood up straight and walked back to the elevator to his office. He came out looking better than before and his expression was back to that of the expressionless Xavier.

He open the door just to be greeted with the sight of a certain narcissist sitting casually on his desk with a leg over the other. She looked mad.

They exchanged looks and a small smirk crept up to Xavier's face, he walked to his desk and sat down looking at the back of the perfect figure sitting on his desk.

Her eyes twitched, what she saw earlier annoyed her to the core, he didn't say anything to acknowledge her which only made her fume more, she didn't even know why she was behaving like this. It wasn't even her business, she wasn't one who gets mad easily, but this man...

"What brings you here Miss Li?" he asked nonchalantly, picking up a pen to sign a document.

She scoffed before answering. "Why won't you face any problem when you're so irresponsible. Your receptionist isn't around and you didn't even bother locking your office before stepping out, how irresponsible," she busted out all in one breath.

She stood up and turned to face him meeting his unwavering blank gaze free of any emotion fixated on her. Did he just ignore her as if she didn't just say anything? How rude!

There was a skin-tearing silence hovering around the room and they just stared into the eyes of each other, one fuming with anger and killing intent and one as calm as the ocean and the dawn of the day.

She turned, her back now facing him, she brought out her phone and dialed a number, and put it on her ear waiting for the call to get connected.

Before the call could get connected, Xavier was already behind her and grabbed her hand pulling the phone away from her ear slowly with a sinister smirk gracing his rosy lips.

She turned to face him, with her face burning red in anger and he looked down into her eyes.

"Why are you mad? You care all of a sudden, why?" he questioned her with his head slightly tilted to the side.

"Care?! You wish."

"Actions speak louder than words, darling," he said in a lowered voice, it was deep and husky with a hint of seduction attached to it.

"I'm annoyed," she eyed him. "I don't care, after all, you need my help..."

"You need mine, too," he said lifting her chin gently with his index finger.

She gritted her teeth and shot him a glare before regaining her composure.

'Ivy, what is wrong with you? It's not any of your business if he's irresponsible or not. Get a hold of yourself,' she scolded herself inwardly.

A similar sinister smile graced her lips after a while before she spoke.

"You know, I could've snooped around on your work and files, when you weren't here, even worst, hack into your computer, I'm really good at it. It could bring your company to ruins if I used it against you..."

"But you couldn't, you just can't," he bent his knees slightly and leaned in to meet her height, looking directly into those green eyes of hers, searching her face for any emotion.

"Because you care. You don't want any harm to befall my company... to befall me".

Ivy was dumbstruck, she didn't expect this... this from this iceberg. How could he be so good in wordplay? She thought earlier that Mia was the best but this man...

She knew how much she prepared for this but she didn't expect this reply, she couldn't even make up any sentence in her head to give back to him.

Did they exchange roles or something? He's playing her part.

" Oh please, I have better things to do than to care about you or your company."

"Like..." he said straightening, looking down at her with curiosity.

"My wedding arrangement," she replied almost immediately, and his expression immediately changed which made her smile in satisfaction.

'Now that's how it's supposed to be,' she praised herself inwardly as her smile grew wider.

"You know, it's every girl's dream to dress lavishly on her wedding day with priceless jewels adorning her and I'm no different. I even brought a list of things I want for our wedding. Firstly, I..."

"Aren't you supposed to be in your company right now?"

"Well, as you said earlier, I do care... about my wedding, and considering the fact that you're super 'busy' and you can't come over, I have to make out time to be here. Don't I?"

"Okay hand the list over to me," he said stretching out his hand, with wide palms.

"Why?"

"Aren't we supposed to work together on the wedding? It's my wedding too."

"Okay, if you say so," she put the list on his palm.

He took it and scanned through it within a few seconds, he looked at her before returning his gaze to the paper.

He held out the paper blocking the view of her face with it, turned it to the side, and tore it. Ivy was in shock for a while as she looked at the falling shreds of the paper.

She wasn't shocked because he tore the paper, but because she didn't expect him to do it

Her eyes fell to the pieces of paper landing slowly on the floor.
