The hallways are decorated with various furniture and expensive looking things. Walking in this hallway, Mimir is being escorted by a Knight towards the audience room.
As he went inside, there were several Knights lined up in the side ready to move on command. Near the throne several ministers and advisers are standing. Of course there also are the Princes of the Kingdom.
The throne room doubled as an audience hall, it held all official audiences of the king. It was a rectangular room with a tall ceiling, filling the room with a sense of grandeur. Ornate decorations were placed at every corner, overwhelming those that entered the room with its powerful display.
"The famed Magician, a dungeon conqueror famed for his magic skills will now enter." The voice of an official echoed in the room.
As the door opened, A single white haired young man stood there. It was Mimir...
The royalty and nobility in the room stared at him openly, drawn to the exotic aura brought about by his rarely-seen white hair and eye-catching visage. His icy blue colored eyes will make anyone get charmed by it as his face contains no emotions. It had some mystical feel into it.
He walked step by step deeper into the hall. Though he had his Magic Staff taken away from him for it can be considered a weapon...
Ignorance is bliss...
'Its been a while since I've been to a castle...' He thought with nostalgia.
In the past he would be the one sitting beside his father the King with all the flashy garb in him with a golden crown adorned with expensive jewels.
After a few bit of formalities of introduction, the event finally started.
"I heard various stories about you. The famed Sage that cured a plague, stopped famine then brought a bountiful harvest, subjugating a hoard of Dragons, and many others." The King said.
There was an air of superiority behind his words, as though he was looking down on someone that she expected would obey his orders. An expected aura any ruler would have.
"Yeah, and what do you want from me?" Mimir asked.
"Impudent! Don't you know you are in the presence of the King? And to speak so rudely. Kneel down and apologize!" One of the ministers yelled at him.
It was custom in this world to kneel when having an audience with the Ruler of a Kingdom. So what Mimir is doing is quite disrespectful in the eyes of nobles and aristocrats.
Seeing this, Mimir looked at the King and saw he was just silently observing him. He's not contradicting the words of the minister. Which means he is trying to get the higher ground in their meeting.
"Kneel? I would advise you not to carelessly flap your lips minister. I might be magnanimous, I'm hardly a merciful man to foolish people." Those simple words carried great strength, made everyone in the room sent chills down their spines.
Killing Intent...
Even the Knights under the King's command on the sides were trembling. It's like having a dangerous beast inside the castle. Though they are experienced in the battlefield, Mimir is someone who uses Red Dragons as his practice dummy with his magic.
"Excuse my subject, he had a temper at times like this you see..." The King says he didn't even apologize for his subordinate's blunder.
"But my King! This puny magician-"
"How much more are you going to disgrace yourself? This is a respected wiseman in the world, and also a savior of the Princess, a Royalty. Leave this hall immediately if you keep shaming yourself."
The King said to the minister... Despite his old age, the wisdom contained in his eyes glimmered with charisma.
The Minister's face turned red in shame after he got humiliated by the King in the court. Several advisers and nobleman attending hushed whispers around.
For Mimir though it sounds like a practiced dialogue. He had lived in a Royal Palace once and he knew a little bit of ins and outs. Its also the same with a good cop and bad cop tactic. To make the King look like the Good Cop to make Mimir trust him a little.
"And so what do you want from me, I wonder? I'm quite busy today you see so I will take my leave if this won't be worth my time." Mimir says trying to hide his irritation with such acting they gave.
"Well if you say so, then let's cut straight through the matter shall we? Mimir Helvig Asgeir, by your respected deed of saving a member of the Royal Family, I as the King Asura, hereby appoint you a position as a Royal Court Mage." The King said.
Afterwards Mimir was then presented the benefits and the responsibilities that would come from that position... But the benefits didn't entice him. King-class attack spells, he already learned them several years ago... Even their Emperor rank Barrier Magic didn't interest him as he was already way beyond that level.
Such a position offered to him by the King himself was the highest honor a commoner can receive. Of course Mimir isn't just any other commoner, as the people inside this court weren't ignorant of his accomplishments. Mimir wasn't called a 'Sage' for nothing after all.
"Your highness, my apologies but I can't possibly accept your offer." Mimir said.
Various murmurs from the crowd court could be heard as soon as he said that. By this Kingdom's etiquette, lowly commoners wouldn't have any choice but to accept. Though any wise person knows not to antagonize him.
The Mimir continued, "If your Highness wish to reward me in any way, I could only ask for Asuran Gold Coins."
"But isn't that too little for a reward?" The King's eyebrows were raised.
"You don't need to worry about that, your highness. A hundred Gold Coins would be enough to satisfy me."
"Oh, I see. That's a shame." The King sighed in regret. "Very well. You may have your reward of a hundred Gold Coins."
