Ch 17-Peter Pettigrew

A/N:Why complicate things unnecessarily.

{THIRD PERSON POV}

Heavy banging on Lupin's Quarter door woke Lupin up.

Lupin a bit sleepy opened the door. And spotted Blake and Harry out of breath clearly having ran their way here.

"Blake, Harry what happened?" Lupin asked worried at the state of the boys and with his sleep gone now.

"Map, Pettigrew, alive, Scabbers" Said Blake while composing his breath.

Lupin couldn't make out much under the heavy breathing of the boys but he did understand two words, one a name of his long dead friend along with an adjective that can't be associated with him.

"Both of you calm down and tell me what happened?" Lupin asked.

Blake pulled out a piece of parchment and handed it over to Lupin. Lupin recognized it immediately after all he was one of the person behind its creation.

"The map, where did you both find it? we did a lot of mischief with this." Lupin said reminiscing old days.

"That doesn't matter, look at the name here" Harry said pointing at a name that shouldn't have been there, name of a person long supposed to be dead.

"PETER PETTIGREW" The map stated along with Weasley name beside it.

"This is not possible, Peter is dead, Sirius killed him but the map can't be wrong, it can never be wrong we worked too much on it." Remus said while fumbling some bit and finally finding a seat to sit upon.

"You told me that Peter's animagus form was that of a rat, the Weasleys' have had Scabbers as a pet for the past 12 years and he is missing a finger too, Conincidence I think not" Blake shouted.

"We need to get Peter, if he really is alive that means Sirius didn't kill him." Lupin said color draining from his face realizing that just maybe one his friend may have been innocent and another one alive.

"Yes, We need to find out why did He fake his death and hid himself for so many years, maybe just maybe SIrius Black is innocent." Blake said with one of his eyebrow raised.

Harry's face went through different shades of grey in this time.

"I think we should make a plan, I think I am the only one who can approach Scabbers without alerting him, if you ." Pointing towards Lupin " or Blake went with me to the Gryffindor dorm then he might just get suspicious" Harry said.

"Yes, i think it will be the best if Harry goes to the Dorm and just pertrfies Scabbers and bring it while Blake and I will wait outside the common room, from there we can bring him here and interrogate him" Lupin said with a bit of lump in his voice at the end.

"COugh COUGH" Blake coughed "Why to unnecessarily complicate things? Professor , Harry prepare your wand to cast the pertrification charm, Pip" Suddenly with a pop sound a house elf apparated.

"Yes Mister" Pip said.

"Go and grab Ronald's Weasley's rat Scabbers from the Gryffindor Common room and hold onto it tight please we don't want it to run away."

"Okay mister"

The house elf apparated and then came back holding on to a squeaking rat.

"Petrificus Totalus" Blake shouted pointing at the Rat.

At the same time Lupin casted "Stupefy". While HArry stood there dazed.

"I never though we could use the House Elves like this, it would have made so many pranks so much easier" said Lupin.

"Well most people tend to just ignore them. They are really a great help." Blake said," Now do you know the spell to turn an animagus back to human or do we need to go to professor McGonagall?"

Lupin casted a spell and the features of the stunned rat started to change back into a human, the body grew, hairs receded and finally a body of a middle aged man remained.

"Oh god, its really him" said Lupin recognizing his old friend no matter how filthy he was looking.

"Does this mean Black is innocent?" Harry asked.

"Well he is certainly innocent of having had kill Pettigrew, Damn, 12years in Azkaban for a crime he didn't even commit, how did he remain sane? or maybe he hasn't and has gone mad therefore he is after you." Blake said

"So what to do now?" asked Harry.

"Well we can wake him up and ask him why he faked his death, though i don't know how truthful he will be, maybe we can get some Veritaserum and then question him." Blake suggested.

"Using Veritaserum outside trials is illegal " Lupin said.

"Well they can't arrest me for giving Veritaserum to a dead person." Blake replied.

"You keep Veritaserum with you?" harrry asked.

"No, but i know where i can get some from. Pip fetch me some Veritaserum from Professor Snape's cabinet." Blake said.

The House elf apparated and came back with a container filled with a liquid.

"Thanks Pip"said Blake really grateful of the help that the house elf gave him.

"We only need a few drops so Professor can you wake him up."

"Enervate"

The knocked out figure opened his eyes and scanned the room. and then jumped.

"OH Lupin, its so nice to see you" Peter said going to hug Lupin.

"Ah Ah,NO," Lupin said placing his wand in between.

Peter then turned around and saw Harry.

"OH, dear Harry you look just like your Father James" and he moved forward to hug Harry

"Stop" Blake shouted pointing his wand at Peter, "Tell us why fake your death and frame Black?"

"I had to fake my death, the death eaters would have been after me , Sirius would have killed me , since he had joined The DARRK LORRDD , and since Lily and James were death i didn't think i can survive any longer alone, so i hid and stayed hidden." Peter said trying his best to convince the others of his lie.

"Who was James and Lily's secretkeeper Peter?" Lupin asked.

"Sirius Ofcourse, he betrayed them and tried to kill me later." Peter said quickly.

"Bullshit" Blake said, "Things don't add up, why stay hidden for so long? Most of the dead eaters are already in Azkaban by now and the ones which are out wouldn't be so foolish to directly attack you, so th question remains why live the life of a rat."

"Petrificus Totalus" Harry casted.

"Blake use the Veritaserum " Harry said.

"Gladly" Blake replied and then pried ope n Peter's mouth to drop in a few drops.

"By the way we should get Dumbledore here." Blake said.

"Yes, even if Peter is innocent we need to make it known that he is alive." Lupin said, "Atleast clear one murder charge off Sirius."

Lupin went to his fireplace and called Dumbledore telling him it was an emergency.
