Ch. 11- Break But Freeze

Wanting a little change, Mr. Lee put the megaphone away and used his whistle blower hanging on his neck to kickstart the fight.

The moment he whistled, Hector summoned, “Kronix weapon form, Berserk Breaker,”

A large metal hammer formed, and he grabbed the long handle.

Zero chanted a spell quietly, then created ice blades hovering around him. He ordered them to attack, and they flew with great speed, aimed at his opponent.

Hector tried swinging his hammer, but it was hard to smash them due to how small they were. Instead, he dodged the blades using acceleration while leaving the weapon in midair. A second after releasing the handle, he grabbed it again.

He quickly lifted the hammer up and smashed the ground, causing a slight quake that cracked the crust and summoned rock spikes that extended towards Zero. That was a special attack.

Zero immediately crouched and touched the ground with both his hands, turning it to ice in one direction—like a pathway—and forming ice spikes that collided with the rocky ones in the middle of the field.

“Come and attack me straight on, I dare you,” bellowed Hector.

Zero didn’t listen to him, and was fabricating more ice shards, flying around his back.

They rocketed straight to Hector, who hastily left his hammer stuck to the ground and shone into a spark, evading them flawlessly.

Materializing again, he got fed up and dashed at sound speed with bolts surrounding his body.

Zero stood up fast and turned to electric currents, flowing in the air and reappearing in front of Hector as he neared his position.

He charged a fist to his face, and just before it hit him, Hector accelerated his mind-process, slowing time—or increasing his focus—in order to dodge him. But his fist was still moving faster and landed on his cheek, decelerating his mind immediately.

Zero followed it with multiple punches at lightning speed while Hector tried blocking each of them, and was only able to catch some until halting in exhaustion.

As energetic as ever, Zero shot more fists at his stone chest, but couldn’t crack him still. His speed wasn’t enough. Finally, he stopped and bolted back a couple feet, gasping in fatigue.

Hector gave him a smug look, and stretched his arm to the side, calling the hammer again. It flew over to his hand and he grasped it, running straight to Zero with a valiant scream and swinging it at him.

Zero lit himself up and dodged the swings with his higher speed, knowing it wouldn’t work if he tried an ice shield as the blunt attack would likely break it.

Little did he know that Hector was aiming for the ground, beating it in order to bring out spikes again. Zero looked down in shock, and jumped back just before they hit him from below. The moment his shoes touched the ground, he crouched and made the concrete turn ice.

Jumping so his legs won’t freeze, Hector slipped once he landed and fell on his behind, his bones getting crushed. The hammer dropped beside him, shone and disappeared while Zero continued to freeze his body.

And with that, he disabled the brute, who tried to break the ice with his strength, but to no avail. He left his head intact, squirming in opposition.

Just like Kane, Zero rose to his feet and went past the rock spikes that stood between him and Hector, “Are you gonna give up?” he asked, his face cold and voice as serene and serious as a ghost.

“You trickster!” said Hector with effort.

“And you fool,” resumed Zero in a harsh yet apathetic tone. “You could’ve simply smashed the ice with your hammer if your feet froze, but instead you jumped to avoid being caught then slipped when you landed back.”

“What?” said Hector, gaping at him upon realization.

“Heh. You really surprise me,” smirked Zero.

The match ended with both having shown a substantial improvement overall from the year before, but Hector being more idiotic like usual.

Seeing the result from afar, Mr. Lee simply whistled without having to get the ‘go to’ signal from the victor—or the loser.

Creating a frost hammer similar to the Berserk Breaker, Zero shattered his own ice that wrapped the brute’s body. He used ice creation magic after scanning the weapon like the way he does to make a Kronix.

Hector moiled to stand up, kneeling before Zero and giving him a glare.

They went back and the fourth round opponents were to be decided.

Hector, who was placed 7th dropped to 10th, while Zero went from his 13th place to Hector’s old rank.

After adjusting the rankings, Mr. Lee gazed around at the students for a moment then announced, “Duke and Kylo will go next,”

“Ah great! I’m gonna fight that annoying brat who keeps hitting on me,” said Kylo in exasperation, showing a disinterested face.

Duke stood up and walked out of the seats and down the stairs of the stadium stand whimsically.

He paused by the row that Kylo was in and continued with the same manner across the seats, holding back his front hair as sparkles surrounded him. With a smirk, he said to Kylo, “Oh. I’m so excited to fight you, sweetheart.”

“I’m not a fucking girl!” lashed out Kylo, then sighed a moment later, trying to cool himself. He resumed with a serious face, “Just shut your mouth for once, or I’ll kill you in the next fight,” he rose up and walked his way, pushing his shoulder aside as he did.

Smiling with lust and charm in his eyes, Duke followed him out and descended the stairs with him, all the while greeting his crushes with a nice giggle and a hand wave as they scream and wish him luck. “Thank you lovely ladies for your kind cheers,” he said, making them nearly faint in love.

Those were just some of his front seat fan girls whom he was famous among—And whom he never really liked as much as Kylo, his actual crush that he insisted was a girl.

Duke was a Sraphian coward; secretly that is. Like them, he was all tell and no show—except for some. Though that’s when it comes to strength, however, they’re the most genius among the Plusians.

Sraphian was derived from Esraph, an ancient Neutralian word, which meant Ice (S) Crystal (Raph), referring to the inhabitants of the Sapphire region. Those inhabitants often were classified into two races—Vathesraphians (Blue) and Kiovlosraphians (Green). The green ones were also known as Losvaraphians or Water Crystals; who were descendants of Aquamarine, Turquoise and Cyan.

Duke’s looks were charming indeed. He had a sleek, flipped back light-blue hair and warm gray eyes that made him a flirty guy, but a weak and slow one who only had the smarts and looks to attract the ladies. A noble from a prestigious family, he was a descendant of Sapphire II, son of Arctos.

On the other hand, there’s Kylo. Unlike Kane and Hector, Kylo’s hair reached the chest. It was silky and smooth like a girl’s hair, and his face was somehow more chubby and cute than most of the other ‘manlier boys’—except Larry, who was like him but nicer. He was the third delinquent with long dark hair, his eyes were round and deep purple, and his edginess was beyond their levels. He also had piercings on his ears and nose, just like the rest of the delinquents.

The fighters stepped to the field and ran to their positions. On Mr. Lee’s whistle, they began.
