CHAPTER 2

A FAILED WEDDING

Ophelia sits in front of the dressing mirror in her dressing room, her wedding dress flowing around her like a cloud of white diamond. Her make-up artist stands beside her getting her bridal makeover intact. She was looking gorgeous as she kept a straight look at her reflection in the mirror.

The door flung opened, Athena, Ophelia bestie dance in with a handful of presents wrapped elegantly. She screams joyfully as she left the presents to the ground and hurried up to Ophelia for a hug making sure she wasn't ruin her make-up.

A smile double up on her face as she stood behind Ophelia and watches the bride's reflection.

"You look absolutely stunning," Athena complimented, her eyes shining with admiration and excitement.

Ophelia blushes, a mixture of excitement and nerves fluttering in her stomach. She reaches out to adjust a stray strand of hair, her hands trembling slightly.

"I can't believe this day is finally here," Athena whispers, her voice filled with emotion.

"I Know right." Ophelia said her voice sounded a bit stressed and her friend noticed at a go.

"Huh, are you good?"

Ophelia exhaled, she asked the make-up artist out and after she's gone, she made another long sigh.

Her friends notice her uneasiness after the second sigh in few minutes. "What wrong?"

"I'm worried Athena,"

"Why, what wrong?" She asked standing at her face.

"I'm having this feeling, a negative feeling that something isn't right."

"Ophelia, it's your big day, stop having this negative feeling and head straight positively okay."

"I'm trying Athena but, it's almost time to walk the aisle but he isn't here yet and his phone isn't connecting either."

"Is that it? come on, stop it. He's on his way okay."

"But why isn't he taking his calls or replying my messages?"

"Ophelia," She places a comforting hand on her shoulder, offering her support. "He'll be here soon. Easton love you so much, I'm so sure he'll be so eager to see the most beautiful woman on planet Earth and I tell you, Easton's the luckiest man to have you as a wife."

Hearing those words, Ophelia smiles, her heart full of gratitude for having her best friend by her side on this special day. A friend who have been a mother to her seen she lost her mother.

Together, they share a hug, a bond of friendship and sisterhood that will last a lifetime.

She tries to stay calm and composed, but deep down, she's still in panic. Her friends try to reassure her that everything will be okay, but she can't shake the feeling of unease.

As the minutes tick by and he's yet to be seen neither taking his calls, she starts to feel a sense of dread creeping in. What if something happened to him? What if he changed his mind about marrying her? The thoughts swirl around in her head, making her feel sick to her stomach.

Finally, after what feels like an eternity, there's a knock on the door. Her heart leaps in her chest as she rushes to open it, hoping to see her husband-to-be standing there with a smile on his face.

But instead, she's met with a solemn-faced man who hands her a note. Her hands shake as she opens it, her worst fears confirmed as she reads the words written on the paper.

"I'm sorry, I can't do this. I'm not ready for marriage. Please forgive me."

"No, no, no, it can't be happening, this can't be happening to me!" She muttered in a shaken tone, her legs trembling hideous in her wedding gown and taking little steps backwards.

Athena grabbed the letter from her and take a view, "Holy shit! Ophelia, you've to calm down okay."

Tears well up in her eyes as she realizes that her wedding day has turned into a nightmare. She staggered backwards as she tries to come to terms with the sudden turn of events. Now she understands what her dream two nights ago was all about.

Tears running out like the raining day blurring her vision, her heart beating against her chest. At the moment all she could see was people running into the room, her father was among and Athena lips moving really fast but nothing was heard but rather, voices telling her to just flew into thin air. the voices suppresses her and she fell at once and collapsed.

As she slowly opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was her father sitting by her bedside, his worried expression etched on his face. She tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over her, causing her to collapse back onto the bed.

"Dad, how did I get here?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"You can't remember? You collapsed. Ophelia, I need you to explain to me what the hell happened between you and Easton, what do you say or do to him to have made him made such decision?"

She looked at him, feeling a surge of anger and frustration as she got remained of her fail wedding. "Dad, I need you to leave. I need to figure things out on my own."

"I don't know what the did to him but one thing is certain, I'm going to get Easton to change his mind and get married to you again."

"Dad, are you serious right now? please just leave, I need some space right now." Seeing how greedy her father was made her miss her mother so much.

Reluctantly, her father stood up and gave her a sad smile. "I understand. Just know that I won't give up just yet." He added and left.

As he left, she felt the weight of her heartbreak felt like a physical ache in her chest. Tears welled up in her eyes as the memories of what had happened flooded back to her and she broke down crying.

Just at the moment, Athena hurried in, rush to her and give her a motherly hug she needed.

She reached out a hand to gently stroke her hair, her touch offering a sense of comfort in her time of need. "I'm here, sweetheart. I'm here for you."

Tears streamed down her face as she tried to speak, the words catching in her throat. Athena sat down beside her, wrapping her arms around her in a tight embrace. She buried her face in her stomach letting out all the pain and sorrow she had been holding inside.
