Chapter 21: Face It, We Can't Escape The Illusions

"Everyday another dramatic issue." Sarah said, shaking her head in disbelief. She looked over to Apollo, just to see him holding back tears. He took a breath, glanced at Sarah, and turned to his sister. "Listen, Mindy. I don't know what stupid thing you did, but it's your problem. I'm not responsible for you anymore, I am only going to devote my attention to those who are bound." Apollo said, his eyes showing a small ice colored glow. He blinked and the glow was gone. "Mindy, you were right. He really doesn't care. Guess it's off to the cells for you, as you are of no use to me anymore." Cassandra said coldly. "Oh, and you." She said, pointing to Sarah. "Why this boy? I guess you wouldn't answer that, so it's a pointless question. Aren't pointless questions interesting?" Cassandra asked with a devious smile. "Like when you used to ask me when your mother was coming to visit, or when your father was coming to see you. Oh! I have a good one, when you could go hang out with Malborn! He was a total traitor by the way. As soon as you were given the gift of mental modification abilities, the boy took off across the border." Sarah stood in confusion. Who is this woman? Sarah asked herself. It only took a moment for the pieces to find their place. "You. It's you. Why are you with my mother? You shouldn't be allies anymore. Didn't you damage both of us?" Sarah asked in disbelief. Amelia put her hand up to prevent Cassandra from speech and started speaking. "You caused all of this Sarah. Your father could have stayed with you, but you had to give off so much illusionary value that you drove him away. Opps, I guess I gave away that he's still alive then. Let's move on. I am taking back my position as your caregiver. You're going to go back to work with Cassandra and your other friends for the time being. It's better off that way." Amelia finished. Sarah's eyes began watering as she spoke, "why would it be better mother? Because the people that I feel comfortable with are bad for me? Because I'm being independent for the first time in my life and you can't control me?" Sarah asked. "No! The issue is those kids. Whichever one it is that you ignorantly intertwined yourself with, can automatically influence you. You're lucky that doesn't have much power over you yet." Cassandra cut in. "We're doing you a favor, really. All that rough childhood drama, that was just preparing you for the real world. We should get going soon boss." Cassandra said quickly. "Shut it Con, separate them, use your i- you know what I mean." Amelia finished. All of a sudden, they were in mid air. "What is going on?!" Sarah screamed. Suddenly she was alone, floating in the sky until she dropped back down into what seemed to be her old bedroom. Aunt Mallory was screaming at her, but the noise was drowned out by screaming. "NOO!" Sarah heard Blake's voice, but she couldn't see him anywhere. She then appeared at the party. There was a man behind her when she came out of the bathroom. Sarah was like a ghost, she could see herself and everyone else there, but no one could hear her. That man followed the other Sarah with a knife. He looked ready to grab her and jab when she ran off. The man tucked the knife under his gentleman's coat and followed Sarah to Apollo and that sleazy girl. Sarah watched the events of the last hour play out over and over again, but each time they were changing. The first time seemed normal except for that man, but each time it replayed she was in more danger. Assassins, brute murderers, creepy rich men, you name it. Each replay left Sarah more and more scared for her life. Randomly, there was a loud voice that she could just barely recognise in what seemed like everlasting fear. The voice said, "FACE IT, WE CAN'T ESCAPE THE ILLUSIONS! THAT MEANS WE HAVE TO FIGHT THEM! BREAK OUT OF IT!" The voice screamed. Sarah decided that the voice was Apollo's and tried to follow his words. She thought of him, she couldn't feel his emotion and that scared her even more. But she thought of Jax, she hadn't seen him since she was young but Apollo managed to bring him to her. Even if she hadn't gotten to have a conversation with him yet, Apollo did that for her. He kept her in check when she normally would have exploded with emotion. He'd done so much that he was never obligated to and so, she knew that she had to break free. Sarah screamed and screamed, "I know what you're doing Cassandra! These stupid things you put in my brain aren't working!" The people slowly faded away, but the room stayed. She was still stuck. Sarah looked at herself in the mirror, she could see herself! That meant that this world had to be somewhat real. Sarah grabbed her wrist and smacked it, there was a faint bruise forming. "I'm real, this isn't an illusion!" She realized happily. I have to go find Apollo, he's the only one I can trust right now! Sarah thought to herself. Sarah ran down into one of the side corridors in an attempt to hide from everyone until she found him. She headed into one of the other various courtyards and found the window to the boutique they were in earlier. She opened the suspiciously unlocked window and climbed through. Sarah dropped down and was immediately tackled. "Ahhhh!" She yelled. There was quickly a hand over her mouth. "Shush. Oh….Sarah, it's just you." She was released. Sarah flipped over to see Apollo leaning against the wall. "Did you hear the news?" He asked. "What news?" "The monarchy thinks we stole something valuable. There's been several missing trophies and weapons since we went missing. You didn't show up for your speech, so everyone assumes that it's Sarah and Adam Benso-Bensyl. "Have you seen Blake or Isi?" Sarah asked worriedly. "No I haven't, you shouldn't worry about them right now. I hate to tell you Sarah, but we're officially wanted and on the run."
