Chapter 12

"I umm" I stammered, trying to grasp the right words as my dad stared at me down like a hawk.

"I came to see you, but you weren't in your work area. So I asked one of your colleagues and they said to check the basement".

"Vanessa, this floor is only for the scientists and the head of the SRC, no one else. You already know about this floor from the tour we had taken earlier".

"I was never taken here on the tour; I'm just finding out now that it exists" I replied, narrowing my Joe.

"I don't believe you. You're a very smart girl and you know how to get your way. Let's go; I'll walk you back to the trailer" said my foster dad, before he let me take the lead back to the elevator.

How dare he, thinking that I would lie to him over something small. I know I have to lie to him to keep my secret, but I wouldn't lie to him about this I thought, stepping into the elevator once the door opened.

Joe stepped in with me and pressed the button to go up to ground level, which is the foyer.

And I think I can walk home by myself without supervision I thought, as the doors closed shut and began to go take us up to the foyer.

While Vanessa and her dad were walking back to their trailer, an excited scientist made his way to the basement through the back stairwell, for he wasn't patient enough to wait for the elevator.

Once he got to the bottom, he opened the steel metal door using a keypad and began to walk down the dim hallway, carrying a breakable glass flask.

Inside it, was a light blue substance and a long syringe to inject with.

The tall man randomly selected one of the room sized cages and unlocked it with his keys, before closing the door behind him, walking into the cage where several hideous human-like creatures that are four times his size were being held captive.

Fortunately, all seven of them were chained to the wall, hissing and spitting at the man as he walked to the center.

Moving slow and steady, the scientist carefully sucked up some of the blue substance with the syringe and with accuracy, he shot it at the leg of one of the seven hideous creatures.

Instantly the creature flinched and yelped in pain, breaking the chains that held it back to the wall in an ear splitting SNAP!

Fearful of what will become of him, the young tall scientist fled towards the cage door, wishing that he injected the needle when he was outside the cage.

Before he could reach the barred door, the angry hideous muscular creature grabbed ahold of him and sank its teeth into the screaming man's neck.

Immediately the scientist dropped the glass flask and began to transform into one of those muscular (somewhat human) creatures.

The flask shattered onto the concrete floor and as the first monster was chomping chains off of its fellow companions, each one that became free came up to the large puddle of the light blue liquid, licking it up with their thick pink tongues.

I knew I should've listened to my gut, they have become even more powerful with that substance, thought the scientist, before he fully became a muscular human like creature.

Soon the eight snarling creatures were licking up the puddle until it was no more.

Then together they bashed through the iron bars of the cage and spreaded out in the dim hallway, breaking down the bars on the rest of the cages.

Once the last cage door was down, the devilish creatures began to descend up the back stairwell at a rapid speed and dispersed throughout the building, following one another into small groups.
