Chapter 26: THIS IS THE BEGINNING

One of the officer was about to hold Mina's hand when Eric stop him 

And what do you think you are doing, I heard my Dad's voice coming in with Mr Parker, my Dad's attorney,

This case has not undergo any form of investigation, as it is she's can't be charge with any case until after proper investigation, if there is anything you need to know you can talk to me 

And who are you, the officer ask,

I am Mr Parker, her attorney

Then we may need to see you at our station 

Will be glad to be your guest and yes I take black tea, he said smiling, shall we 

The kids father face changes immediately, this is not over, we will meet again after the investigation, he stomp off after the officers left with Mr Parker

Mina sank back into her chair beside Eric, Mina you need to go home and rest, you are obviously too tired 

No I don't have any right to take a rest right now, checking the time on her phone it past seven am, she stood up and walk towards the exit door

Where are you going ?

Am going to the office, we need to set up an Internal investigation team and know what's wrong before the police gets a warrant, it's only a matter of time

Mina, do you even have an idea who you are, you are a Daniels and most importantly my woman, I am promising you that they will never get a warrant less lay a single finger on you 

I know, but I just need to do something to be sane here, am just confuse 

Okay, I will take you to the office and I know someone who might be able to help with the investigation because there is definitely something fishy about this

Alright let see first, they both enter Eric's car and went to the office, Immediately they got there, all the building team are waiting in the meeting room 

You go in first, I need to make a call, Eric inform Mina 

Alright, she nodded and went inside

Yes P, I need you to come in today, it urgent

Where are the quality control team, have they started work, Mina bark questions one after the other immediately she step into the workshop

Yes ma'am, we have check everything possible, but all seems to be well 

Seems to be well? Care to elaborate ? She ask Crossing her arms over her chest

I mean we didn't find the cause ma'am, the robots is way too destructive but we don't know where the problem is ? 

Mina puts her hand on her forehead, how many workers work on this batch and also let each department recheck their work 

There are one hundred workers from the building to the manual to the automobile and electronics

And what about the remaining five people, Eric ask coming inside with a furious expression, didn't you contact everybody, this is a huge issue and if any one is going to be absent today of all days it shouldn't be among the building team

Then keep on trying until you reach them, Eric cut in 

Yes sir, they all chorus 

Eric run his hands through his hairs, it seems this is beyond you all, you build them and tested them and it turned out well but then an issue come up with it and none of you knows where the problem lies, that's why I am bringing in an expert, when he comes around make sure you all support him so we can get to the root of the problem

Eric tug Mina's arm and walk out with her, now there's nothing you can do than to wait till we know the cause so you need to rest until then alright 

Mina nod her head in agreement, they walk towards the entrance when a panting dishelve figure block their part, obviously the person has run a long distance

Mina am so sorry to hear this, Evelyn ran the short distance between them and envelope her friend in a hug, why didn't you wake me up, we are in this together, we should handle it together 

Get away from me you reek of alcohol, Mina pushed her out of her arms, and should I have brought someone who is hungover and why do you rush down here looking like that 

Yes I know am just in so much shock when I read the news, now that I am here, I should have freshen up a bit, Evelyn reply smiling awkwardly looking at herself all over 

What's that, Mina ask noticing something poping out of Evelyn's neck when she bent down checking herself 

What ... Evelyn hold it up, it my car key, she said her smile more awkward 

You really knock yourself out to have use your car key as a pendant 

No wonder I can't find it earlier, Mina scuff, wait you said you heard it in the news, heard what, how come

Yes it all over the news, they said, you promise in your interview that it safe and also that you said you will take the full responsibility if anything happens, they said a lot of ridiculous things, how did the reporters know about this so fast

It as if someone give them a tip them, they actually got to the hospital before I do 

It okay everything will be alright, I will drop you at home Eric Interupted them  

Lets go through the back entrance, reporters are outside and the kids father is here also protesting saying that he's going to make sure that he sue you to court and also he wants you to take responsibility by stepping down from your position

In his dreams, they heard a strong authoritative voice behind them, the trio turn around to the sound of the heels and the voice coming towards them

Sister I came as soon as I heard the news from Dad how are you doing, Elizabeth came around holding Mina's hand, am so sorry to hear this sister but you don't have to think too much about it alright, it not your fault, infact it nobody's fault , these things happen 

No Elizabeth they don't just happens, and I think the man is right if I can't take responsibility for whatever it is that  happens with my project then am not worthy to be in this position, 

What are you saying Mina, we all know you are more than worthy to be in this position and even more, you are brilliant, caring, kind to people under you, you are an awesome being Mina, Evelyn reply 

No Evelyn you are wrong, I know you are saying all these to calm me 

No sister, she's right, you are more than worthy, that's why I took care of this once and for all, you don't have to stress yourself 

What do you mean you took care of it, Eric who has been quite throughout the whole conversation ask immediately the words left her mouth 

I ask the accounting unit to pay the kids father off, he's definitely doing this for compensation right, so why not pay him off then 

What did you just say you do, pay him off, how can you do that, Lizzy this is not right everything is not about money, Evelyn exclaimed almost shouting 

But he left after collecting the money, isn't it obvious why he's here then

Who knows what he will do next, Eric reply, they all fell silent each in their own thought when series of ring tone break the silence, they all bring out their phones to check the message 

Is this some broadcast message, Mina ask scrolling her phone, ...... "the affluent and influential billionaire daughter Mina Bernard has finally show off her colors by bribing the victim father in order to keep his mouth shut"

Comments..." imagine that how those people behave they think everything is money"

"For all we know he may collect the money"

"Am sure he was threatened to collect it and keep his mouth shut"

"That girl has been acting all gracious and all, who knows this is her true self"

"I can't imagine the pains the family is going through, the kids are still in the hospital"

"She is a fox, she must pay for this, what if those kids lost their life, all they care about is profit, this......."

Eric snatch the phone from Mina's hand, stop reading them it will be fine okay I promise you that

I said it, didn't I , it the worst thing we could in a case like this, and why did you do that without notifying anyone, Evelyn ask furiously facing Elizabeth , this is her project she has the exclusive right to cut the shot if at all we are going to do something like this, how can you decide for her 

But she's my sister before being a manager and I have the right to help her in this situation 

Help, you call this helping her, she reply raising her phone to her face, you have just make everything worse 

It okay Evelyn am sure she's trying to help, and that's the only way she could think of, it could have gone worse anyway, Mina cut in looking at the two of them 

Am sorry sister, am just trying to lessen your burden, I don't want you to do this alone, and now I have worsen the matter, am so......sor.....ry, she said with a shaky voice 

No no Elizabeth you don't have to cry, I understand you, I do, I would have done something to help too if you are in my shoes okay, Mina said hugging her sister 

Am sorry she said once again breaking away from her, turning on her heels, she ran away from the trio 

Wait Elizabeth where are you going, Mina took a step to follow her when Eric stop her, let her be, she needs a space, am sure she didn't mean it, he said facing Evelyn and am sure you are as close to Mina as a sister would be, you should understand her 

Evelyn raise her head up taking a deep breath to calm herself, what is the next step now 

I will take you guys home to rest and clean up first and while you are at it, you should contact the public relations to find a way to bring all those post down from the net, he said facing Evelyn 

Okay I understand , let's go 

Elizabeth stood in front of the mirror in her office changing room wiping her eyes cleaned of tears, haaaa, she breath in a fresh air, I feel so relax and contented, the game is just starting dear sister, I hope you like the intro cause this is just the beginning, she said to herself applying a fresh powder on her face 

You should be awarded as the best actress, why don't you change your career Elizabeth Bernard, a voice said behind her
