Chapter 19

I can feel my excitement in my chest bubbling up as I navigate my way through town finding my way to work. When I pull up outside of the shop, I turn off Beast and remove my helmet and glance around and I notice that most of the vehicles that are here are trucks. I mean I guess that it makes sense for there to be mostly trucks it is a smallish town and it's kind of is a farming town.

I walk inside and go to the front desk, "Hi there, I am looking for Tucker I am supposed to start working today." I say this with confidence to the man behind the desk.

"You must be Scarlet. I am Tucker it is very nice to meet you. If you could just give me a few minutes, I will be happy to show you to your station." He smiles at me in a way that feels very welcoming. I smile politely in response and nod my head and go to take a seat. As I am waiting for Tucker to show me to my area I take a look at him, he is built from working his eyes are as black at my shirt with short blond hair. He has a mustache like a furry caterpillar on his lip, I much prefer Jace's facial hair I wasn't sure of it in the beginning, but I have grown to love it. He is short and unlike Jace he has some pudge around his middle, considering that he spends so much time in the sun and working on cars he is almost translucent white. His hands are cracked and stained from what I can only guess to be years of working on cars and possibly the lack of using agent orange to clean the oil and greases off of his hands.

"Alright Scarlet right this way. Your first vehicle will be this Ford F-150 it needs a tranny rebuild. All of the parts that will be replaced are here on the bench for you and the tools are there in the toolbox. If you need any help at all, please do not hesitate to find me."

"I will be sure to find you if I need anything I appreciate this opportunity. I will have this finished as quickly as I can." I quickly grab the tools that I know I will need to be able to do this job. My neighbor used to have an older F-150 and I would help him to work on it every other week so I am confident that I can do this easily and quickly. 'Damn this is so much easier to do with a hydraulic car lift and updated tools, hell I don't even have to wait for parts to get here!' I begin working swiftly, I start by draining all of the fluid out of the transmission and quickly move to unhooking nuts and bolts, screws and hoses. Once I finally have the transmission off the car, I clean it up and remove the old parts and put in the new parts making sure to place them in the correct spot facing the right way I would really hate to have to do this all over again. Before I know it, I have managed to rebuild the transmission and it is time to put it back onto the motor. Finally, I am ready to put the transmission fluid in and take her for a quick spin.

I go out to the waiting area where I find Tucker and I hand him the keys to the truck and the slip of paper that tells the customer what we did today. "Here are the keys for the F-150 the truck is done; it shifts as smooth as butter."

"Wait you're already done rebuilding the transmission for this truck? It's only been 3 and a half hours?"

"Yes, sir I have already finished it. I took her out for a quick spin there aren't any noises that shouldn't be there I made sure that all of the gears work how they should the customer should have no issues." I smile at Tucker proud of myself.

"Damn girl that there is a record on any other day with any other technician back there this job would have easily taken 6 hours or more. Good job I am impressed."

He hands me my next assignment and I get straight to work. The rest of my day passes in a blur I don't even remember sitting down to have my lunch. By the time that Tucker comes to me and tells me that I can go home I am shocked because I didn't even realize what time it was. On my way out the door Tucker tells me to be here tomorrow by 8am. "Nice work today Scarlet I am impressed with your work. I will see you bright and early tomorrow."
