CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Winter
The darkness envelops us as we tread deeper into the cave. My heart is racing a mile a minute, and I can feel Alec's grip on my hand tighten. It's comforting to know he's here with me, but with each step, my fear only grows.
The cave is damp and musty, with jagged rocks and stalactites jutting out from the ceiling. The sound of dripping water echoes off the walls, making it difficult to hear anything else.
"I hope Melvin makes it back okay," I whisper.
Alec nods, his eyes scanning the cave for any signs of danger. "Me too. But we can't focus on that right now. We need to find our classmates and get out of here."
I know he's right, but the thought of what might be lurking in the darkness is almost too much to bear. Still, I steel myself and push forward.
We come across a fork in the cave, and I can feel my anxiety intensifying. Which way do we go?
