Chapter 38_ Don't be loud!

"Mia wants to steal books?" Mackenzie

bellowed.

Mia was quick to defending herself " It's not

actual stealing!" She shouted, then lowered

her voice. "Logically, it's stealing to borrow

since I'll be returning the books later"

She was justifying her proposed motion.

Stealing is stealing!

"Well, I don't want to go with you. It's none

of my business." I squeezed a corner of my

face.

"Yes, you are." she said with utmost

confidence to my surprise.

"Ah, why don't you come walk my legs to go

steal books with you. The effontery!" I held

my upper waist and scoffed.

She was simply unbelievable!

I stirred on the bed shut my eyes closed.

Mia who was still sitting beside me in the

bed dragged me and started ratting my ears

out.

"Arrrrgh!" I groaned. "Mia please go with

Mackenzie, she is more reliable. She saved

us from getting caught with her powers" I

pleaded.

I don't know why she wanted to go with me

when Mackenzie and senior Eira who was

obviously better options were there.

I guess she's planning on selling me out to

slavery on the way, I don't trust her sudden

request of wanting to go to the library with me.

"Mia, you guys might get caught. I don't

think it is safe to risk it all because of a

Book." senior Eira advised.

Mia looked over at her then ignored her words as if they were never there. I have noticed she had been avoiding conversations where senior Eira was involved.

We would be talking and senior Eira chirps in

then Mia was sure to keep quiet and just

listen.

I knew it was because she doesn't like the

senior, not after dragging her hair like that

before.

"Medusa, let's not waste more time and just go." she faced me with determination in her

voice and face. That was the scariest part, the confidence she had that I was going to go

with her.

"Mia, what do you want with Medusa?" Mackenzie stressed.

"She wants a partner in crime" I chirped in. "

When it was her turn to be nice, she wasn't.

Now, she needs my help. I won't be nice

either."

Mia's next words melted my heart. It was

my first time to hear such from her. Her

voice became shaky and her face got

softened and the pleading look in her eyes

made me forget all the annoying things she

had done before and I instantaneously got

this urge to go with her.

"Medusa, please." she begged.

Oh my, Mia begged. Mia begged for my help. I felt like the most important person in the

world. I mean, I know I'm amazing but

didn't know it was to this extent and that the girls wanted me around this much.

I'm super cool, I tell you!

Feeling fly, I pouted my lips and rolled my

eyes " Just one or two books and we leave

okay?" I said like a mother instructing her

erring child.

Mias vital nods shook the butterflies in my

tummy. Oh this Mia..! I laughed inwardly.

"Okay, let's go" I said and crossed my hand

across her shoulders.

"Good, you guys go, and when you get

caught, don't come running to Mackenzie"

Mackenzie said sarcastically.

"I have the brains, Medusa has the...she

has." Finding no words to complete her

claims of whatever quality she wanted to

say I have, she continued. " Anyway,

wisdom is greater than power" she finished.

"Yes! Go girl" I shrieked.

Mackenzie shook her head. " I'm not sad for

you Medusa, you have the personality of a

chameleon. You know how to change

colors don't you? First, Mia was the bad

friend now she's... Go girl." she mimicked

my voice saying the last words I said most

annoyingly. "Anyway, happy getting caught

girls." she finished sarcastically.

"Sarcasm should be your first name" I

squeezed my face and eyed her. I can

choose Whomever I want as a bestie. Right

now, it was Mia who respected me and

begged me...Oh, she begged me. She was

my bestie now!

"Good luck "I heard senior Eira's meek

voice. "Going after challenges without

fretting is one of the top thing you should

learn in this school. The second is knowing

who to trust. The classes are just bull." she

finished.

Something told me her words weren't just

advice, they held a hint of warning.

I nodded while Mia continued to ignore her.

If Mia likes it or not, senior Eira was a

person who was more experienced than us.

We would be needing her and it was good

to have someone like her around. We needed to start making alibis, they should be people stronger, well-informed, and more important than us.

Not just to protect us from whatever secret

the school has, but also from the clutches

of bullies.

Bullies? Oh, we still owed those bullies debt and I felt like sooner or later, they would catch up with us.

Slowly, we opened the door and Mia looked

around before we stepped out. There was

no one in the corridor.

"Let's go" she motioned to me and we

walked out.

We walked out of the corridor and were

Outside the hostel building. Thankfully,

there was no CCTV cameras in the school

so we were able to walk freely without

hiding.

The school compound unlike its usual self

was silent and calm. Only the chirping of

birds could be vividly heard.

" Ahhh..." I stretched my hand in the empty

space and allow my nose to draw in air.

The sunlight shone its ray on my face and I

felt magical. "Fresh air" I whispered as we

continued walking.

Mia nodded approvingly, supporting my

motion before she said boastfully. " You are

enjoying this fresh air all because of me"

she smiled.

I saw her average plump face shine with

delight and she suddenly grew prettier. I

never knew Mia was this pretty.

I went closer to her and place my hand on

her shoulder again. But alas! She slapped

my hand off of her shoulders.

"What are you doing?!" I cried out as I

fondled my hand where she slapped.

She stopped in her tracks and turned to me,

hands akimbo. " Why do you think I insisted

you come with me?" she asked.

What sort of question was that?... I rolled

my eyes "Because l am the only one you

are more closer to and the only one you

knew would go with you in the end."

"Oh, Medusa" she shrugged before slightly

tapping her forehead with her palm. " I did

that because I wanted to save you" she let

out confidently.

Arrghh.. To hell with Mia and this her so

confident attitude. I knew what she was

doing. She used tactfulness to deceive me

into following her and when I did, she

changed and showed her real color.

Oh, you bitch! I wanted to roar.

"Save me?" I raised a brow.

"Of course yeah, to save your loud mouth"

she became serious.

Her seriousness got me, it caught my

attention. I didn't know Mia to be so serious

and acting scary as she was. Mia was a

timid mama's girl, that's the Mia I knew. Why

was everyone acting strange and so not

themselves these days?

If she was saving me, it had to be from something or someone so I had to ask.

"Save me? But from what?"

"From getting yourself in trouble "

"With who?" now I was starting to get

scared.

She threw her hands up. "Mackenzie!

You've been saying all sorts of suspicious

things about her. If you were suspecting her

of something, you shouldn't attack the

suspect directly without evidence. First, you

find out what is fishy then act after planning " she lectured.

I thought the dean was the only one that

knew how to make people more confused

in his bid to enlighten them. Now, Mia just

seconded that.

"Why would you want to save me from

Mackenzie, Mia are you okay?" I moved

forward to feel her temperature. Perhaps,

she caught a fever owing to all the stress

we've lately been through.

Again, she slapped my hand away. " I'm fine

Medusa, why do you think I asked you to

follow me out? I wanted to speak with you

privately?I don't necessarily need the book

and I am against the idea of stealing but I

needed to talk to you. I've been quiet and

observing but I'm not a fool. " she finished.

"Quiet and observing what?" I was still

clueless.

"Mackenzie getting hold of her powers s

quick and acting so weird I feel like there's

something fishy about her."

What in the world? Was she insinuating

Mackenzie was a bad person?

"I have my doubts but that doesn't mean

she is a bad person or a villain.'" I blurted.

Mia was preposterous in her decisions.

Mackenzie is not the bad guy.

"I know, I know. I'm not saying she's bad.

I'm saying if any of those doubts were true,

you would be making her wary of you and when she knows you suspect her, she might go after you. And even hide her powers or

something. Now, we have to act like we

know nothing to catch her red-handed" I heard her say.

Again, what?

"It is not up to that Mia, Mackenzie is not like

that."

Now, she was the one who crossed her hand round my shoulder. " I know Mackenzie is not bad dear Medusa. She is my friend too. I'm just saying watch who you suspect and who you accuse. Those mouth and small brains of yours could get you in trouble."

Now I knew what she was doing, she

wanted to act like the clever one and make

me look stupid. Mia is so self centered...

I thought now slapping her hand off too.
