In the room, Light Yagami leaned back in his chair and looked at his result.
The page of the death note was filled with the names of criminals.
He took a deep breath and released.
Light Yagami felt the social become cleaner with each day.
All thanks to his efforts.
"You see, Ryuk. The new world is coming so close to me and I will be a god of that new world." Light Yagami held his forehead and laughed like a maniac.
Ryuk, floating nearby, let out a gravelly chuckle "I'm so interested in your new world, Light."
"But I still think it's impossible for you. After all, the world is becoming more dangerous for humans as the day passes."
Light's expression darkened, his grip tightening around the Death Note. "You're underestimating me... because I'm human."
Ryuk's eyes glowed with mischief. "Oh, Light, I've never underestimated you. From the very start, I knew you were a genius—one in a million. It's because of that brilliance that I'm going to share something with you... something shocking."
Light's arrogance flared. "Oh? And what's that?"
"For you, Death Note may be a divine weapon that can massacre billions of lives easily. Or it's just a simple tool for you to enact your justice. But let me remind you—it's not omnipotent." Ryuk chuckled again, this time slower, more deliberate.
"Death note is not omnipotent. I got it." Light put Death Note into the drawer.
"You still don't understand. It's deadly when used against humans. BUT. Have you ever thought about other beings?"
"Other beings?" Light echoed, raising an eyebrow. "Like ghosts? Yokai? Aliens? Or more powerful being. Gods."
"That's right. Death Note is a tool for us, Shinigami, to kill humans. Only human. You understand now."
"Oh. So they do exist. I thought it was just a legend." Light shrugged and stood up, seeming to be bored with what Ryuk said.
"Oh, they exist," Ryuk replied, his wings stretching with a creak. "Their presence has been too weak for humans to sense… until now. For some reason, they've returned. And they're stronger than before."
Light frowned, unimpressed by the revelation. To him, these "monsters" were insignificant. Why should he be concerned? He had a Shinigami on his side.
"Enough of this," Light said, grabbing the TV remote. "Let's see what the world thinks of me today."
As soon as he turned on the TV, he saw a man talking about Kira.
"Kira is not a god. He is nothing but an abominable murderer. A murder that eats, drinks, sleeps and breathes same air like a normal human. Just one day, he kills too many people causing their family in grief. Why he didn't think this situation. That is why Kira cult is stupid. His action deserves to be condemned and judged by justice."
With those sentences, Light was pissed off to death.
His effort of creating beautiful social was denied right in front of many people. How could he endure this humiliation?
He opened the drawer and took out Death Note.
He looked at the name of the person who scolded him like a dog and wrote down his name.
"Lind L. Tailor. You are finished"
Meanwhile, at the broadcast station
L looked at Tailor scolding Kira who is their main target of the game.
"Do you think this will work?" an FBI agent asked.
"It will," L replied calmly, though his fingers tapped nervously on his knee. "By the way, where is Yuusaku Kudou?"
"He said he is going to meet his old friend. Do you need from him anything?"
"Never mind. Let's focus on our task now. I have a bad feeling about this. Since when did BB allow us to have a free game." L's hands trembled without knowing why.
For the first time in his entire life, his body reacted like this.
"Your disgusting deeds end here. By my hands and my brain." Lind L. Tailor said out loud to provoke Kira's pride.
Suddenly, his heart stopped beating.
Instinctively, his hands grabbed his chest and coughed out repeatedly. He found he had serious trouble with breathing.
Reading his expression, L found his state wrong.
"This is not in the script," L muttered.
Without waiting, fake L collapsed to the ground with empty eyes.
A woman came to check. No matter how she tried to wake him, he never responded.
L's expression became hard to describe.
"So. Their words are not false," L muttered.
After joining the second death game, he did some research about Kira.
There was a cult worshipping a god named Kira. From their website, they inferred that whoever committed a sin would receive a death from Kira.
At first, he didn't believe it.
Although many criminals recently died from heart attacks, he still thought that was just a coincidence.
Only when he saw it with his eyes, he believed it.
"Kira can kill people from afar."
L took out the guidebook that BB made for people who joined the second death game, Finding Kira.
He looked at the first rule of the game.
[ Kira can kill you with your name
Friendly advice: Hide your name and your game is your]
L was shocked by the method of killing people. No wonder Yuusaku Kudou chose to go hidden.
It's too unscientific.
"Give the mic to me."
"What?"
"I'm going to send challenge letter directly at his face. With his childish personality, he definitely gets pissed by me."
"That's crazy. Don't you see how he kills a person? How about we investigate first and then …"
"No. If we want to provoke him, this is the best moment" L said.
"But aren't you afraid, are you?"
"Yes, I'm afraid. I'm a human. It's not wrong to be afraid of death" L looked at his trembling hands. When the fake L died, he knew he would have the same fate as him.
"But I am a detective. Exploring mysteries and unsolvable cases is my duty." L took the mic from the FBI agent.
"Besides, I'm excited to death right now. Such an extraordinary existence, I want to explore their existence." L said with a smile.
In the virtual world
Conan guided Kirito to the entrance of the hidden realm.
"This is the strangest thing that we have found in the beginner tower." Conan pointed at the entrance of the temple.
There was only a gate and there was large void behind it.
"Indeed, it's strange no matter how I look it." Kirito rubbed his chin and thought why he didn't notice this place.
When he was a Beta player, there was no temple in the game.
The appearance of the temple was already proof to tell him that this was an Easter egg.
"Thanks, kid," Kirito said, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword. "But I'll handle it from here."
"Wait a minute. Brother wants to enter it alone. This is not included in our deal"
Kirito sighed, knowing Conan's determination. "Kid, this isn't just a game anymore."
"I don't care," Conan shot back. "If you go in there and die, how will we ever know what's inside?"
Kirito admired the boy's courage but couldn't risk it. "You leave me no choice," he muttered.
In a flash, Kirito was behind Conan, delivering a quick blow to the back of his neck. "Sleep well."
Conan's vision blurred. " How can brother be so rude?" he whispered before passing out.
"I'm sorry," Kirito said softly, hoisting Conan onto his horse's back. "Take him to the safe zone, partner," he instructed the horse, which neighed in understanding.
As the horse galloped away, Kirito turned toward the temple, gripping his sword tighter. "No one else will die under my watch."
As soon as he passed the entrance, the space around him started to distort.
The more he walked the entrance, the more space around him distorted.
[ Welcome, brave and fool adventurer. I know this day will come. He he he. ]
A sinister laugh welcomed him.
That laugh that was so familiar sent a chill across his spine.
[ Before that, I must remind you this is just a record. So don't try to strike a conversation with a record. It's weird no matter how I look ]
Kirito ignored the voice and kept moving forward.
[ Anyway, congratulations on finding the secret realm. Or dungeon. Depends on how you think. The name of this realm is Singularity F. The place is Fuyuki, Japan. Your hometown, your advantage. BB knows how to bias the Japanese. ]
[ As for how to clear this realm, it depends on your luck. When I say luck, it's literally luck. After all, your goal is retrieving the Holy Grail which is held by a little girl. And the remaining time is 1 day 23 hours 49 minutes and 24 seconds. That is all I want to say. Have fun and don't kill yourself. ]
As soon as the record ended, he found himself in the temple.
The first thing he did was to explore the temple.
After going around for a while, he believed this was just a normal temple.
Or rather. A starting port.
So he stepped out of the temple.
What greeted him was beyond expectation.
A modern city was on fire. Even he who stood afar could feel the intensity of the fire. The hot wind gushing out from the city blew past him. He saw his health bar stopping healing.
"Totally disaster." He muttered.
"This place is not a tour trip for you, visitor." A strange voice rang out pulling him back to reality.
Instinctively, Kirito dodged aside which helped him escape the narrow death.
He looked at the enemy. It was a beautiful lady.
If she appeared in real life, she would attract many men's attention. It was a pity that she looked very vicious.
[ Medusa: level 100 ]
Kirito became desperate after seeing her level.
He checked his level again.
[ Kirito: level 20 ]
The gap in level told it all. He couldn't defeat the opponent no matter how he tried.
Without opening his mouth, Medusa could understand what he was thinking.
"Don't look at me like that. I am doing this because I was forced to. For my sake and your sake, die for me."
Medusa lunged at Kirito with dense killing intention.
She moved so fast that Kirito couldn't see her. Even her afterimage couldn't be caught with his eyes.
"I'm so done in this life." Kirito's eyes could see death right in front of him.
