Faith

Silence.

Once again the whole planet was silent, as the last living being fell forward into the bloody ground.

A loud thumping noise was the only thing that broke the silence for a fraction of time.

The area was full of destroyed buildings, debris of spaceships and an overwhelming amount of dead bodies. Quarian, Salarian, Krogan, Human, Volus, Elcor, Turian, Asari, Geth, Rachni, every race contributed to the fight against the reaper.

Despite their differences they stood and fought side by side on this battlefield just because a single being, a single human brought them together.

All of them believed in this single individual, with all their hearts.

He was the first one fighting the reaper and the last one dying.

Death. The thing that every living being deeply fears, the one and only thing that no one can explain.

Death is emptiness. Death is darkness. Death is endless.

But how long does endless last? And if there already is the possibility of death not being endless, what if people could be revived, what if somehow, something has the power to reverse fates?

Living Organisms capable of thinking complex and logical thoughts always, since the start of all time, believed in a higher power. That could be gods, it could be faith in scientific breakthroughs, even the belief in yourself. It doesn't matter in which god, device, religion or person you believe, the only thing that matters is the faith itself. Faith stays the same, there is no alternative to believing or not believing. You either have faith or you don't. Nothing changes.

So what happens if a whole galaxy, filled with countless beings capable of complex thoughts puts their faith onto one single being.

Doesn't this being become a god in the eyes of the believers?

And if thats true, which god can really die?

The extensive silence that crept over the battlefield like fog abruptly disappeared as a loud humming slowly sounded over the battlefield.

The humming sound didn't come from a single source, in fact it appeared from every direction at the same time.

The formerly deadly silent and cold battlefield slowly began to glow as, starting from the closest friends of Shepard, the dead bodies emitted a bright purple light.

More and more bodies began to glow, every being that had faith in Shepard and died believing in him was producing the strange purple light. If someone could see the planet from space at this time, it was full of purple light, as if the planet was a giant city at night, bright with lights.

The phenomenon didn't stop there, one after another, impossible to see unless one is a god, all the planets that were part of this gigantic war were glowing as well.

There was Tuchanka, the birthplace of the Krogans, Thessia, the home and grave of most Asari, Sur'Kesh, the wonderland of Science, home planet of the Salarians and many more.

Every planet that was formerly full of flourishing life united to fight to the bitter end was sending millions of purple light beams towards that single planet named Earth, the home planet of humans and the original start of Shepards odyssey.

Every single light beam was concentrated on this single human in the middle of the battlefield, like moths to a candle.

Slowly but surely, the body of Shepard floated into the air, powered by the faith of the people he swore to safe and protect.

He floated higher and higher into the sky until he was several hundred meters above the ground.

There the body stopped in midair.

The humming sound, that was still sounding on the battlefield suddenly vanished and the lonely body of Shepard was once again wrapped in silence.

The light beams never stopped pouring into it, even the burnt and scarred skin of Shepard started to fundamentally change. The light turned into a darker purple mixed with blue and red sparks.

It looked like a majestic and at the same time incomparably sad process.

As the faith power flowed into Shepard's body without stop there were signs of life appearing again.

The faith of innumerable beings was trying to heal Shepard!

Suddenly loud noise appeared everywhere around the battlefield.

Its sound was similar, but a lot louder than thunder.

Out of nowhere portals sprang up around the floating body and metallic arms pushed into the atmosphere of earth.

The Reaper returned!

Three giant metallic spaceships appeared. They looked similar to the squids of earth, but were entirely built out of an unknown material and equipped with enough weapons to destroy several civilizations.

Without any sign all three of them instantly released red laser beams as thick as small spaceships towards the floating body.

The laser beams made an outlandishly electronic noise as they almost instantly arrived in front of Shepard.

That was the moment in which the dead man suddenly opened his eyes.

Those eyes were terrifying, the pupil turned from blue to a dark purple with black, red and blue markings in it.

"Not.. this time.." those words were whispered, but they drowned out the noise of the laser beams as if they were nothing more than a streetlamp.

Shepard raised his hand lightly and pointed at the three Reaper in front of him.

"Be...GONE.." the last word was roared with all the power he could muster and as soon as it faded all of the faith power gathered into a gigantic beam of purple light that moved even faster than the Reapers attack.

Every single being would expect the Reapers to explode and die from this beam, but what in reality happened was almost as unbelievable as a human getting revived through the power of faith.

As soon as the Reapers were hit, they instantly dissolved into nothing more than purple-white smoke.

They were gone, completely and utterly destroyed, not only in the present but also in the future and the past. It was as if they never existed.

"Hah..at least..I could...do...this much, but the problem..is not...resolved...I need to change.....everything...everything" Shepard said while breathing heavily, clearly already close to dying once again. 'I have no idea at all what all of this power is or where it comes from, but while I have it, I can still try to use it!' he thought and concentrated on this strange purple power.

"With my...last...remaining power...I....I...will end you, BE UNDONE!!" He shouted and every single bit of purple light was instantly released outwards.

His tattered body exploded, but no blood spilled out, there was just purple light shooting in a straight line into space and time.

Then the light vanished and nothing remained on this planet, except for silence.

Hey here's the second chapter, I could've written most of it in the first chapter, but whatever.

Also the first chapter (Prolog) was 500 something words long and this second one is already more than double so I like where this is going.

I hope you like it.

PS: For those readers that do not know the Mass Effect universe, should I write a small wiki when there are more interactions with other species, people, things etc.?
