Chapter 117: The Man Under the Iceberg
It was not unusual for Jötuns to be deceived.
Loki, the god of mischief, was not known for his honest dealings with Jötuns, despite being Laufey's son.
"After the war, your father entered the temple and discovered a child. The young descendant of the Jötun , abandoned due to their frailty, were left to fend for themselves... that child was Laufey's son," Frigga's words echoed in her mind.
"Laufey's son? No, I am the son of Odin! I will prove to my father that I am his worthy heir. I will defeat the Jötuns and end this war once and for all. I will show that I am the rightful heir to the throne!"
His face contorted with rage, unwilling to accept his true parentage.
At the moment of his abandonment, he ceased to be a Jötun.
Loki's actions once again proved his willingness to abandon his past.
For thousands of years, a timeless question has lingered: If you woke after a long slumber, who would you want to see first?
Family? Friends? Lovers?
Steve Rogers provided the answer through his actions.
"Bucky... Bucky..."
What kind of Bucky was it? It seemed to be... all of them.
No response came.
In his daze, Steve heard a faint voice. "It seems to be alive? It looks like a mortal, but its strength surpasses that of ordinary mortals."
"Wake him up, then find a way to get him to talk. If he doesn't cooperate, throw him to the Frost Beasts."
"Huh? What's this? A pot lid? It seems very durable..."
Steve felt himself being roughly dragged from the ice and dropped hard on the ground.
"Uhh..."
He groaned and slowly opened his eyes, only to see the face of a Jötun.
"Who the hell are you!"
Steve felt as if he had taken a hundred million points of emotional damage. He pushed the Jötun aside, stood up, and surveyed his surroundings.
Is this hell? Why are there so many monsters and ghosts? Not far off, there are even several Godzilla-like creatures from the Jurassic period...
"Take him down!"
At the command of a minor boss, several Jötuns charged at him.
Even though he had been frozen for nearly 70 years, the effects of the Super Soldier Serum had not waned. Steve rolled over and grabbed the shield that had been missing for 70 years.
"Come on, I can handle you all day!"
"Is this the alien creature you mentioned? It's hideous, just like the zombies in the movies."
Seeing the scene below, Stark, floating in the sky, wondered, "I heard you fought off aliens fifteen years ago. Are they the same group?"
Thor shook his head. "No, last time it was just a group of people with advanced technology. This time, they are genuine monsters, but the outcome will be the same. They will all die here."
Stark shrugged. "Then I suppose S.H.I.E.L.D. will be quite pleased—with so many corpses, there will be a wealth of research material!"
"Huh? There seems to be something happening over there. Let's check it out."
Stark, hovering in mid-air, stopped Thor. "Someone seems to be fighting them?"
Thor nodded. "I see."
He was also surprised by the coincidence, not expecting to encounter an old acquaintance here, much less see Captain America making a dramatic reappearance.
"Oh, were you a stage actor back then? And holding a strange pot lid... These monsters are tough, but it's surprising that one person can't take them down."
Thor rolled his eyes. "The pot lid you're referring to was made by your father."
Stark: "???"
After a closer look, he exclaimed, "Wait, is that Captain America? But isn't he supposed to be dead?"
"We'll have to see how this unfolds," Thor replied. "It's possible he was truly thought to be dead."
Below, Captain America, newly awakened, faced a fierce battle.
Moreover, the Jötuns' inability to fight was only relative to the Asgardians who were all seasoned warriors. Normally, a Jötun could easily handle a few ordinary Earthlings.
Steve fought with sheer determination, his Vibranium shield soaring through the air, knocking down a Jötun with each throw. Yet, facing the overwhelming number of enemies became increasingly difficult.
And these were just the small fry; the real threat had yet to reveal itself...
