V2 Chapter 4 Goddess of battle

After I rested for a few hours I was jolted awake early by the sound of some boats and decided to hitch a ride.

As the morning came and we reached London and as I saw Diana wake up I greeted her.

"Good Morning."(Steve)

"Good morning(?) Where are we?"(Diana)

"Welcome to jolly old London."(Steve)

As she got up and looked at the skies covered in smog and dark smoke from chimneys she spoke "It's Hideous."

"Yeah, it's not for everybody."(Steve)

'True that, compared to Themyscira.'

After I got off I called my secretary and asked her to meet us at the boutique.

As soon as I entered I heard her

"Thank God! You're not dead."(Etta)

and then she turned to Diana

"Nice to meet you. I am Etta Candy, Steve's secretary."(Etta)

"What is a secretary?"(Diana)

"Ooh! Well, I go where he tells me to go and do everything he tells me to do."(Etta)

"Well, where I'm from, that's called slavery." Diana said stressing on the word 'slavery'.

"And it does rather feel like that, except the pay is very good."(Etta)

I left them there to inquire about the recent situation and to find the whereabouts of my superiors.

When I came back Diana already changed her clothes except she was too attention-grabbing so I grabbed a pair of spectacles to shift my focus directly from her eyes.

"Now, it's not so distracting."(Steve)

"Spectacles really, and suddenly she's not the most beautiful woman you've ever seen?" Etta spoke as she looked me right in the eyes.

I ignored her handed her the shield and the sword and moved away with Diana, after promising to take her to the front later.

As we made our way towards the convention I noticed some people following us I pulled Diana into an alley and one of them came out and put a gun on my head and three more came to surround us.

I quickly disarmed the man behind me and used his pistol to shoot another two in the foot the last one shot me or so I thought but Diana blocked the bullet with her armguard and took him out, the men committed suicide by swallowing cyanide.

Greeting Etta who was standing outside the alley we made our way to the convention and after a slight disturbance by Diana, I finally showed the diary which introduced poison bombs that can kill millions and gas masks that won't stop them, to the Generals.

Who refused an attack in light of ongoing negotiations for an armistice. By the way, she is now Diana Prince named by yours truly.

'I need to do something about it myself.'

"I propose a small unit to take out Ludendorff's operation myself." I requested but was refused and I complied which caused an outburst from Diana and I had to take her out of the room.

'Time to go rogue.' I thought as I headed out.

"Why didn't you stand your ground and fight?!" Diana screamed at me.

"Because there was no chance of changing his decision." I replied unbothered.

"The millions of people you talked about, they will die." She continued as she stopped me from walking forward.

So I had to stop and explain myself

"No, they won't. I will stop Ludendorff myself."

"You mean, you were lying?"(Diana)

'It was obvious, I mean even those guys in the room probably guessed it.'

"Yes."(Steve)

"How do I know you're not lying to me right now?"(Diana)

I took her truth rope brought it around my wrist and spoke

"I am taking you to the front,"

"We are probably going to die

This is a terrible idea"(Steve)

'Oops spoke too much' and quickly untied the rope.

So I gathered a few people I knew who agreed to take Diana together after she threw a drunkard across the bar with one hand.

And then there was Sir Patrick who came and gave us funds but I don't know but the whole time he was with us my body was stiff like I was in a life and death situation but I tried not to show it, whatever it was I don't want to go through that again.

I don't know if it is me but he is showing an unusual amount of interest towards Diana though he tried to hide it, but him avoiding looking at her completely gave it away as he used his peripheral vision to focus on her at all times.

I know as a trained spy I have been taught how to monitor someone without looking at them, I will try to keep an eye on him.

After all the preparations we made our way to the front and we reached the trenches in the no man's land where we were supposed to travel for a day's more time for a relatively safe zone to cross but, Diana stopped.

"We cannot leave without helping them." she said pointing at the stragglers.

They have nothing to eat and there are women and children trapped.

"We need to make our next position by sundown."(Steve)

'I didn't answer her question as there was nothing I could do.'

  "How can you say that?"(Diana)

"This is no-man's land, Diana. The battalion has been here for a year."(Steve)

"Because of the heavy fire by the machine guns no man can cross it. I want to help but we can't save everyone in this war."(Steve)

"But it's what I'm going to do." Diana said.

And that day I saw the Goddess of battle walking the earth.

I watched in shock as she took off her coat climbed out of the trenches and walked across the battlefield with a shield, a sword and a rope, taking all the focus of attackers on her and walking on undaunted and unhurt.

She marched as if she was facing just drops of rain not hail of bullets and soon she had the enemy on the run.

'Fine, if you did that much already I will follow you to go crazy once. I already had enough of being unable to do anything.'

So I climbed out and followed her and we marched across the no man's land and we took out all the enemies though Diana did more than 90% of the damage.

She did save the people and I realized that what she did was not something a human was capable of, at least none I know of.

After a call with Etta from the town we saved, I came to know of Ludendorff hosting a gala a few miles away and decided to check on him, but Sir Patrick tried to stop us, of course, I ignored him.

Of course, Diana somehow concluded that Ludendorff was Ares but I have seen the man and I am sure

'No God looks like that or they just have weird aesthetics.'

After resting the night in the town we departed the next morning and reached near German High Command.
