41. Unexpected

"How is it, professor"

Adam asked Connors.

Connors who was looking through a series of data excitedly said, "It's excellent. The serum can now hold three times the original energy! Where did you get this sample?"

Adam simply smiled and didn't answer.

"Just a few more tweaks and the serum will be completed."

Connor's voice trembled as he said those words. More than two decades of hard work and finally, he achieved it.

Adam understood what kind of emotions Connor was going through.

"I will leave it to you then."

"Alright."

Connor was more than happy to do the grunt work.

Adam left the secret lab and returned home. He went straight to his room and packed up. A few days ago he promised Elle to have a small outing with her. Slinging his backpack over his shoulder Leo said goodbye to his parents and went to the train station.

He didn't need search long for Elle, he spotted her almost immediately among the vast crowd of people. She was wearing a long skirt and a top with a green jacket over her.

"Elle!"

He called out to her. Elle smiled brightly when she saw Leo. Her smile caused a few teenagers sneaking looks at her to blank out.

When they saw Adam walking up to her some of them clicked their tongues. They were a perfect match.

"You look beautiful."

Adam said when he reached her. Elle giggled happily. She took his hand and pulled him to their seats.

"Our first outing as a pair."

Adam grinned.

Elle leaned her head on his shoulder and smiled in content. She was really happy.

They waited for some time before train started to move. However it only moved a couple of meters when it came to a sudden halt.

Adam frowned. He sensed some kind of power dragging the train down. Elle also sensed something was wrong and looked around nervously.

He patted her back and calmed her down.

Creeaakk.

Suddenly the cabin they were in stared to vibrate. The steel walls started to creak and a second later it tore like a piece of paper. From that opening entered three people.

The leading man was old and wore a cool looking helmet. Two men stood on both his sides. One was a large man with a bulky body, he had this wild air around him. The other was a lean man with lightly green toned skin.

Adam wasn't a hillbilly. He immediately recognized who they were.

Are they here for rogue?

Being familiar with the X-men plot Adam realized why they were here. He looked around the cabin and saw Logan and Rogue sitting in a far corner.

Logan told Rogue to stay down and he rushed at the old man.

However the old simply lifted his right arm and Logan came to a halt. He was lifted from the ground and hung up in the air. Logan was exerting his utmost to break free but he was tied down by invisible lines of force.

"Why the hell are you after me?"

Logan asked while glaring at the old man.

The old man had an amused expression, "My boy, now why would you think I am after you?"

Logan blanked out for a moment before he realized something.

"Sabertooth."

The old man called out to the big man next to him.

Sabertooth walked out and went towards Rogue.

"Stop!"

Logan yelled. However he was powerless to even move.

"You are getting annoying."

The old man flung his arm. Logan was thrown far, to the other side of the train.

Rogue was but a teenager, she didn't have the power to resist a large man like Sabertooth. She was knocked out and flung on his shoulder like a sack of rice.

Adam had no intention to get involved in this mess. There were other people for that.

And as expected, the old man just walked out of the station when a crowd of police officers blocked his path.

"Fire!"

These men had no pity and the leading officer ordered to fire almost as soon as they came out.

However the bullets that should have made holes in human bodies came to an abrupt halt. Dozen of metals hung in mid air like something was holding them there.

"You never learn."

The old man's face clouded over. He raised his right hand. The bullets hanging in mid air turned around and aimed at the police officers.

"Fire!"

Out of desperation the leading officer ordered to fire again but before his men could pull the trigger their guns were yanked out from their hands by a powerful force. The guns hung in mid air like the bullets and aimed at the officers.

The old man showed a cold smile and gestured with his arms. The trigger was about to be pulled.

"Enough Eric."

Sabertooth who was holding Rogue suddenly gripped the old man's neck and spoke.

The old man named Eric wasn't startled by this development. He smiled and said, "Charles, how nice of you to visit me."

Sabertooth whose eyes were lost said mechanically, "Let the girl go, Eric. This isn't the way to go."

Eric scoffed, "You and your preaching. After all these years you haven't learned. Now step aside, I will do this my way."

Suddenly one of the guns fired. The bullet stopped an inch away from a police officer.

"Let' see how determined you are to make me stay."

The bullet slowly inched it's way towards the police officer. It touched his forehead and slowly forced it's way through.

Ahhhhh.

The man yelled in pain. Eric watched on coldly and had no intention to back down.

Sabertooth who watched everything sighed and let go of Eric's neck. His eyes were focused again, he looked around in confusion.

"Goodbye Charles."

Eric left after leaving those words.

Some distance away from them was professor Charles and Storm.

"What now professor?"

Storm asked.

"Eric must be stopped. Get Logan, we are leaving."

Adam watched all of this in silence. Elle was right beside him. She held onto his arm and looked nervous.

"What is he going to do with that girl?"

Adam shook his head, "It's none of our business."

Elle didn't speak further. They looked at the train station and sighed. It would be hours before the services went back to normal.

Their first official outing as boyfriend and girlfriend was ruined.
