Chapter 10: The Figure Behind the Letters

Cecilia's POV

My eyes widened in shock at the words and my breaths became uneven and hot. Something was not right; the whole anonymous gift thing was scaring me to the bones. Was someone after my life? I could not understand why anyone would be.

Could it have been Henry? He always taunts me and he was not very happy when I chose Denver as my mate and rejected him. Could that have been the reason?

Or there was someone else, someone I was unaware of who was hoping to see my downfall? It did not make sense why someone would want that for me, I never harmed anyone and I never stepped on the toes of anyone.

Maybe it was someone from my father's pack who still believed I was evil. But if that was the case; they would not have been able to get access to the Eagle Eyes pack, talk less of getting into my chambers to leave the box on the window.

Could it have been one of the guards who they were working with? That was a strong possibility, but how was I to know who was after my life? They had just been sent to guard me, and I could neither tell which of them was not loyal nor point out anyone who was not from Denver.

My mind was filled with so many questions as to who the sender was, but there were no answers to those questions. I hastily covered the box and kept it beneath the table, along with the box from yesterday; when I heard Anna's voice from the hallway.

She was giggling and making conversation with someone else. I tried to even out my breath by taking quick breathing exercises, and though, my body was calm when Anna entered, my wolf was nowhere near calm.

It was alive and curious; it wanted to be released, to find the person behind the anonymous threat messages, but I had to keep it under control.

After years of being treated as an evil person and being separated from the pack and my only surviving family; I knew well just how to control my wolf. I had done it countless times to prevent myself from defying the orders of the elders and implicating my father.

"It is time to show your face, My Lady. Come, come; come quickly."

Anna pulled me out of my room and into the hallways where I saw that she had been having a conversation with a guard.

I had no idea what they had been talking about, but knowing that Anna was not much of a secret keeper, I made a mental note to inquire about her conversation with the guard later.

"Here"

She pulled me into a hall where the ceremony had already begun, and sat me down close to the Alpha, before keeping her distance by my right-hand side.

Alpha Denver looked at me and grinned in a way as if he did not want it to be obvious. He stood up immediately after and mounted a little podium that had been arranged, for his speech.

"Humble and loyal members of the Eagle Eyes pack, I extend my greetings to you all; titled and untitled, I strongly appreciate your sincere love for Eagle Eyes pack," He began with great confidence.

"It is with great joy that we gather here today to celebrate our newest and most important member of the Eagle Eyes pack. We are all equally aware that we have been searching for the perfect wolf that will put the interest of the pack above every other, and at long last, we have seen one. Allow me to formally introduce Cecilia; the new Luna of Eagle Eyes pack."

Denver looked at me and pointed to me for everyone to stare at. I felt my skin crawl as I unintentionally wondered if the sender of the boxes was amongst these loyal pack members.

I stood up from the chair and did my best to smile courageously and also wave happily. If the sender was among them, I did not want them to see that they got to me.

"Now that that has been settled, you may all make merry. Celebrate your new Luna today; food and drinks are abundant."

With that, Alpha Denver stepped down from the podium and walked to me.

"There is enough for you to eat, my Luna and if you need any special thing, there are omegas that will attend to your every call."

He read out to me like I was some disease that he could not touch or move close to, before leaving me alone at the seat. I felt neglected by him, but most especially, I felt like I was being watched.

As much as I tried to dust the feeling off, it only crawled back on me, and soon I was too uncomfortable to sit still in the hall. I stood up abruptly and left the hall, wanting desperately the comfort of my garden.

"My Lady, where are you going?" Anna asked, tagging along behind me.

"You do not need to follow me, Anna. I am fine; I just need some fresh air in my chambers. I will come back soon, do not be worried." I said to her which made her halt in her steps.

I made my way to my chambers and the garden. It was serene and quiet there, away from the noise of the hall and I did not feel like I was being watched there.

I checked on the herbs and flowers I had planted yesterday and sat down for a while to enjoy the filtered air. It was the best place to be until I began to feel unsafe again.

I turned to see if anyone was lurking behind the leaves, but I saw no one. Yet, it seemed strange, like someone was really watching me from a distance. I stood up from where I sat and checked every corner of the garden but no one was there.

I decided to sit again when I heard the clapping of hands. Someone was really behind me. I turned and saw the one who had been watching, my breath seized in my throat.
